Brilliant impression of drowning from our child actress here - silent flailing can be really hard to spot, especially in a crowded pool. I know a girl who sadly drowned because the lifeguard didn't spot the flailing, and then she got her hair caught in a wave machine. She was only 11. If you want to practice, search for 'Spot the drowning child' on a search engine. I'm surprised the modeller didn't do an airway obstruction check. With drowning, it's very unlikely that the child has choked on anything in the pool...it does occasionally happen though, little broken bits of a flotation device, bath toys, or ocean debris, for example. Worth a quick airway obstruction check if you are comfortable with that level of first aid. Final thought: This is not best practice, but; in an absolute emergency, if you do not wish to make skin contact with a stranger who requires CPR, a hole in a plastic bag can allow you to maintain no skin contact whilst also being able to administer rescue breaths. So much better to have a CPR shield though, much safer.
Because it has a pulse. Meaning the heart is fine but the oxygen intake is insufficient so you only have to give rescue breathing to give oxygen to the drowning person.
