Please bring Dr. Mike back from time to time, this is great! I loved to see the wrong movement in weeding and the correction of it. Really helpful, thanks.
Janey, you run this channel like a champ! What a great idea to have Dr. Mike on! Thanks for ALL you teach us EVERY DAY!!
My tip for handling heavy bags is to have an employee at the store load it into your trunk then at home put your wheel barrow next to the trunk of your vehicle and flip the bag into the wheel barrow. Open the bag in the wheel barrow and shovel it where you need it till bag is the weight you can handle. One bag at a time. Slow and steady wins the race 😃
I’ve found having two pads that you can move as you go about helps out as well.
I just love that Janey supports her friends. You can just tell that she is one solid person. Great info Mike!
I have a thick two inch yoga mat I use as a knee pad along my garden beds and it’s super nice to have a bigger space to cushion my joints. I do like to do a simple warm up of yoga in my garden before working. Because in my mind gardening is a workout and if I would stretch before the gym I should stretch before gardening lol. It’s also a lovely way to connect more deeply to garden.
This was a very smart gift to all of us who garden.
As we age, gardening smarter is the key. Thank you Janey for introducing us to Dr. Mike and showing us how to keep our muscles strong which will prevent injuries in the garden. ❤
As I get older it’s important to keep your balance. Mike is a great resource 🌼🐝
I really needed this! Been hurt several times due to gardening. Would love to see a live with Dr. Mike to answer questions!! No other gardening channel is as informative as yours!! I watch several and yours is my favorite for entertainment and useful information. Keep up the good work!!
...and Dr mike is such a good speaker!
Thank you so much for bringing Dr. Mike. Please bring him back from time to time.
My knees don’t work anymore, so getting on them is a real challenge. If I would go down on my knees I would need a back up plan in order to get back up 😂 it usually involves some rolling 🤣 💐💚🙃
Thank you for bringing Dr Mike to show us some ways to move correctly while gardening. Please bring him back!
Dr. Mike has great advice. Unfortunately I don’t often do the right body mechanics. I definitely will be more mindful. And I will be watching Dr. Mike channel for good advice. Thank you Dr.Mike and Janey
Thank you Janey and Mike! 😊
Good thinking Janey!! So many of us “think” we’re being careful with our plant posture and most importantly picking up something heavy, but Dr Mike really simplified the way we need to take care of ourselves. Would be a perfect weekly reminder for all of us if you did a quick 5 minutes per week dedicated to this on your channel.
Great idea, Janey. So nice of you to include an expert in this field. I never really gave it much thought, but it is important to take even better care of ourselves than we take care of our own plants!
Thank you so much for having Dr. Mike on. I am over 60 and awaiting hip replacement surgery. I will definitely be going to his channel to get prepared for that. My mobility at this time is very limited and I want to be as good as I can be before and after.
Thank you! At 72 I really want to stay in shape and work on balance and this was perfect!
I had mine done two years ago. Best decision I ever made. I went on a 5-mile hike two months after my surgery. There's hope! Good luck with yours!
@@deesmith1510 Thank you for your encouragement. Can't wait to get it over with.
While I love gardening videos with plants involved, this is such a needed video for what we love! Thank you for thinking about all of our needs.
I was just reading my Tylenol bottle to see how many is safe to take a day at 64, I am a short female overweight, i know. Carried 108 bags 2c foot mulch up a 6 foot hill and spread it. Thank you for introducing us to Dr Mike. Some women drive Harley's, some women drive buses but the baddest women drive augers lol.
I have bought a garden cart/wagon and I put everything in there and I even mix soil in there. I can then sit on a chair and work filling pots, or trays for seeds etc. At the garden center I take advantage of the staff to load my car and when I get home that cart comes out. I am trying to get my garden in a place where I don't have to dig or plant unless it is necessary. I tore my meniscus, acl/mcl lifting something heavy and then pivoting in one quick moment the damage was done, can't get down on my knees anymore so I am adopting a cottage garden style that is very forgiving and weeds don't matter as much.
Thank you Dr. Mike for an informative video.
Awsome content today! Would love to see repeats to remind us of the correct positions we should be using.
Well, this is the video my body needed but in this busy season, my mind didn’t focus on. Thank you! I am going to implement these today.
I have been out of commission now for three weeks because of my lower back. Running to his channel now because I have mulching to do!!! Thanks for having him on your channel!!!
I really appreciate you bringing Dr Mike on to discuss this. Nothing hurts my body more than working in the garden. Especially the back. Question...why is rotating the back bad?
I thought rotating was good to stretch, but apparently not.
Thank you Janey and Dr Mike for all the great information. Us older folks need all the help that we can get, so we can remain active. I will garden for as long as my body will allow me.
This was a fantastic video!!! Thanks Dr Mike. I have sciatica pain that goes down my leg so maybe this will help. I work in the garden even when I’m having pain, “nothing is gonna stop me from gardening “!! You know how I feel.
Great info and video! Thanks for thinking of this. Something I haven’t thought about. Good job Dr. Mike!
This was so helpful Janey. I’m 67 and have a failed L sided hip replacement. I still garden but am very careful. My balance is not good , and getting up and down is very painful and hard. I have subscribed to Mikes channel. I think his knowledge will help keep me gardening. I hope so.
Thank you for this video
I'm always putting my body to the test
Lifting shoveling, digging a small trench
The information and examples shown in this video were outstanding! Thank you so much Dr Mike and Janey for teaching us how to prevent injuries while gardening! 😊🇨🇦
People under estimate the energy drain we do in gardens this was an amazing video 🎉
This was great advice,I hurt my back two weeks ago in the garden it’s almost healed but I was doing everything wrong especially with the garden soil I don’t have a strong guy to help me haha so do it on my own, but thank you so much these tips and exercises were so helpful and now I know the right way when I am gardening 😊🌸
Dr Mike 🔥
Excellent , really helpful. Thank you 😊
Great video. Thank you Dr Mike. Not only good looking but very knowledgeable. Please come back again. I’m already doing the exercises.
Thank you so much for sharing this it helps so much .
I checked out Dr. Mike's channel you linked. There are some great exercises with 'option 2' versions that are helpful for those of us that aren't able (yet!) to perform the exercises in the traditional way. Self care will be my new thoughts before lifting those bags of soil ❤
I love your channel's variety! This is so helpful. As I have aged, my body has betrayed me from time to time. Now 74, I really need to focus on stretching and body toning. I think many people, even our doctors, don't realize how vigorous gardening can be. Thank you Janey, Dr. Mike and Jason on video, for these helpful tips! I'm a believer, and a subscriber to Dr. Mike now!
Great content! As we age this is so important.
Great video! I'm a bag-hugger too. My mulch bags are huge (3 cu ft) and I do struggle with those. I'm in the targeted age group and definitely needed this advice! Thanks guys!!
Two of my favorite UA-camrs collaborating! Awesome job.
That was very helpful! Now if I can stay mindful of these things. I subscribed to Dr Mike's channel! 😁
Thanks Janey! This was wonderful information. At 61 I definitely find that I can’t toss those 40 pound bags of soil around like I used too. And once we hit our 40s and 50s we begin losing muscle mass. Doing these exercises and being intentional in our body awareness will keep us in the garden for years to come.
Great explanation!!!
This was very helpful as I am a 69 almost 70 yr old woman that had extensive back surgery including six new discs replaced in my lumbar area and 2-11” rods put in my back to straighten my scoliosis. That was 2020 and I’m still trying to recover. Then last spring I fell and ruptured my Achilles tendon which a bone spur rubbed through it I guess. So my Achilles tendon ruptured off of my heel and rolled up into the back of my leg. I now have a 9 to 10 inch incision from under my heel to a few inches below the back of my knee. And I needed this help as my balance isn’t that great for obvious reasons. Also still recovering from that surgery. Thank you Janey and Dr. Mike.
Wow!! Hoping for a speedy recovery.
Thanks janey for bringing Dr Mike to us. Exercise snacking is a great tip.😊
Use a tarp or older bed sheet and drag heavy bags/items over to where you need it- women don’t need to be lifting 40lb I don’t care how fit. I tore my shoulder doing THIS very thing . The stretching after a long gardening session is crucial for me. Hamstrings and full back stretches are important for me. Rebounding keeps lactic acid from forming, so I rebound after stretching and this really helps❤.
Fantastic video! As an avid lifelong gardener and one who is getting older - I'm in my late 60's - these exercises are fantastic. My body feels it after a day of gardening. I'll be "snacking" a lot more now!
This is an extremely helpful video. Thank you so much Dr. Mike and Laura. I will definitely subscribe to his channel.
Thank you!! Perfect support to your content!
So very timely! Thank you❤️❤️❤️
Such an important video!! thanks for bringing Dr Mike on the channel and introducing him to us. Will be following his channel as well!!! Thanks Janey!!!
Excellent video today! Thx Janie🧎🏽🧍🏼♀️
As a neurosurgery PA, I ❤️ this!! Back health is so important! Thank you for spreading this knowledge from your platform.
Toop notch info I’m 70 and fit yet all these tips are so important for all ages especially in May we garden all day every day snd prolly overdo lol!!
Thank you thank you!!
This is great!! Just spent hours today on my knees fertilizing some 30+ roses and then picking up all the weeds I had pulled from the rose bed. Lots of bending, pulling, reaching, etc. It felt SO GOOD to do those stretches!! Whoa! Just what I needed!
Bring him back!!!
Oh - and about hugging those soil bags? Not if they have black widows! I hold them as far away from my body as I can!
Thanks Janey, appreciated Dr. Mike's input
Hi Janey🌺 . Great and important exercises by Dr. Mike , he is an excellent doctor . Have a wonderful day ..🌺🌻🌺
Thanks Janey, and Dr. Mike for practical information, even beyond gardening! For future videos, It would be also helpful to see appropriate exercises for digging activities, such as using an edger to keep the garden beds “clean”. I do alternate my legs so that I am not continuously using my stronger foot/leg. 🥰🇨🇦
Thanks Janie !!! So helpful and much needed ❤
Nice! This will be so helpful!! Thank you for sharing him with us!
This shoulder neck stretch felt so wonderful . Thank you Dr Mike and Janey
Thank you for doing this video Janey! It is much appreciated! 🥰💐
Great video! When I first saw the contest, my first instinct was to scroll to a different garden video. But decided to give it a chance, I am so happy I did. Will follow him, self care is so important. And stretching is key. I am starting a new positive habit.
Thanks Janey.❤
Good morning from North East, Maryland. At 73, I’m still lifting 50 lbs of bags. Lift with your legs. The stand is right one. I like my little red wagon then the heavy wheelbarrow . After watching your videos on the wagons. Love my new red one. I live on a hill with 2 acres to work on. At times I walk backwards up hill. My legs and ankles start hurting going up hill. Thanks for this information.
Currently when I have those big bags of compost or soil, I am spending the extra effort and time to transfer it to a small plastic trug so I can carry it to the location where I need the soil. It does involve more walking but we also need to get our steps in every day! 🥰🇨🇦
Dr. Mike is awesome! Thank you so much for bringing him on ❤
You are such a versatile "enfluencer". I tend to not take the time to stretch or exercise b4 heading out to the garden in order to beat the heat of the day & by end of day am a total wreck. Thanks for reminding us of the importance of that. I also admire how you promote other channels. Dr. Mike, I have subscribed.
Thank you Janey for introducing us to your friend Dr. Mike ! Dr. Mike the information you have provided is very important to make sure we move correctly and don’t injure ourselves while gardening and also while we do chores around the house. Thank you Dr.Mike ! You have a new subscriber.
Yes please! I’m 67 and got plowed down by a 100# golden running full on resulting in a serious tibial plateau fracture. I really need this. Balance is an issue with many of my friends at our age. Tripping with flip flop type shoes is a fear too. Good one Dr Mike and Janey. See you this weekend!
What a great vid, we never think to stop and stretch great points and examples, Janey you have something good here perhaps Dr. Mike can set us playlist that you can post for us gardeners on your channel, and who doesn’t love chair yoga/stretching for gardeners, love that you do this special guest on your channel ❤I needed this
Thank you, Janey, for sharing this video and introducing Dr Mike to us! I’m in my mid fifties and suffer from auto immune and osteoarthritis (EOA) and a whole list of other problems! 😅 I have been watching your channel from the very beginning and love the variety you bring to us gardeners. Gardening for me has helped my mental health and forces me to move in my garden even when I’m hurting. 👩🌾 I’m so thrilled to start doing the stretches by Dr Mike to give me more impetus to do what I love! Thanks again!!! 🙏
What a gift! Thank you for this video!
Wonderful program today
Great video! Who isn't aching after a day of gardening....this will help us to be more aware of how we're misusing our bodies to garden. Thank you so much!
What a wonderful video with Dr. Mike! I’m 81, and still gardening. This last week I know I did too much trying to put in a dry creek and doing the no till method for part of our backyard. I hurt my back, but I think I did it lifting up our 81” sofa to put sliders under the legs. I moved our whole furniture last week, now I’m paying for it! My subscribing to Dr. Mike’s channel to do these exercises. 😊
Dr. Mike is sporting vivobarefoot!🔥 My primus lites have helped me be pain free for years now! So happy I made the switch! Dr. Mike gets it!
Thank you Dr Mike for your information. My back often feels the strain of gardening. Hopefully these exercises and proper movements while gardening will help get me on the right track! Janey you are the best for bringing us more great gardening information!
Oh Janey. This was so great. I am getting older, had hip replacement surgery less than a year ago on my right side and now my left knee is complaining. I have been weeding from a chair and definitely am totally doing it all wrong. I thought the reaching in different angles was a good thing. LOL Also, I really appreciated the balance exercise. I am subscribing to Mike's channel and watching his videos. Thank you Janey and Jason and Mike.
Wow...those stretches are great for gardeners and sonographers. Thank you for sharing! 💕
Thanks for the information, the smarter we work the more we can work in the garden!
Thanks for this video…just what I needed to hear today 💕 staying physically fit is so very important as we get older :)
What a neat video! It combines your old career and your new career!
Great video Janey and Mike! I'm 78 and a very active gardener. From time to time I have episodes of sciatica on the right side; OMG, so painful (and BORING!) I'm never sure exactly what sets it off. I'd rather do exercises or learn how, or how not, to move to avoid it. Sciatica puts a real kink in my gardening routine, for sure! Thanks.
Thank you for doing this video! As I get older, I am so aware of how easily I could injure myself in the garden. I needed this!!
Happy gardening! 🌻
Such a great idea to show these stretches! Thank you Dr. Mike and Janie!
Great advice! As a 72 year old gardener, I would like to continue gardening for a long time. I have had both hips replaced and need advice about getting up from the ground. I have avoided kneeling by using a gardening seat. It would be more convenient at times to kneel. Suggestions please.
Thank you Janey and Dr. Mike! This was such a great video! As I inch towards 50, I notice all the time my body isn’t what it used to be. These “snacks” will do me a lot of good. Thanks!
This is awesome! Great exercise while enjoying what we love GARDENING!
Thank you so much for this great content with Dr. Mike. Agree with another…you run this channel like a champ! Such thoughtful, well done, inspiring content.
I work out, do yoga, walk a ton… and hurt my lower back gardening this spring. Couldn’t garden for a week! 😫 I couldn’t reach past my knees for days.
Such great advice I will start using this weekend! ❤
What a wonderful and thoughtful video, I think this is a first for a gardening channel! I had 2 bulging discs in my late 30s(!) from lifting heavy soil bags. Proper body mechanics and strength important at any age. Now I’m 49 and much stronger and I think I get most of my back pain when I am weeding, but now I can carry soil bags like a badass!
I'm going to embrace Exercise snacking!
Take as many bteaks as you need, stretch, hydrate, and take a recovery bath in epsom salt (for deep pain), or a cold shower (for normal pain). Cat cow yoga poses have really helped me after tough hardening sessions as well.
This is a great video! It is easy to forget this self-care when doing hours of gardening activities. Thank you!
Gardners need grip strength. I love that you made this video, I garden when I come back from the gym so I am warmed up because gardening is a workout all on its own. Thanks for the tips
I love that you did this video especially with your background in PT! ❤
Very creative idea for a video Janey 😍👏🏼
Thank you Dr. Mike!
Thank you for this! I just turned 50 and feeling it. I need to stretch and do this. Following Dr. Mike now. I want to be strong!
With chronic back pain this was a great video. Will be following Dr. Mike and doing stretches before gardening!! Thank you for sharing!
