I think this is darker because it's about the atomic bomb. Su was born in Hiroshima, and you had the bright light, then post-apocalyptic world. After the bomb fell there was an endless black rain that fell. So the umbrellas, and Su walking around because girl with ponytail. And there was a single tree that withstood the bomb and lived, alone amidst the devastation. The Hibakujumoku. And some of Su's grandparents are Hibakusha - survivors of the bomb. And everything was covered in ash. But there's hope too. And I think that's what it's about. It seems very personal to Su, how could we not love it?

Great reaction. I love this song ... and contrary to what you said, most people who have said they don't like it or that it isn't one of their favourites seem to be leaning towards "it isn't heavy enough" rather than it being too heavy.
I do think it is one of their less metal style songs and is more mellow, but it is clearly deep and meaningful - and it will hit harder live with the Kami Band playing and Su and Moa's un-processed vocals.

I'm coming from the pop side of music, i was never a fan of any type of metal music.
Then I discovered Babymetal. I'm not a 'hardcore' Babymetal fan although i love all of their music. I'm more of a hardcore Suzuka Nakamoto, Yui Mizuno, and Moa Kikuchi fan and love all of the work they do in any capacity. I love all their older stuff and both Divine Attack and Monochrome. I love the messages they convey with the creativity and boldness to be different, fresh, and new.

Historically, a lot of people who wanted to dismiss Babymetal used the fact that they don't, generally, write their own music/lyrics as an excuse to say that they weren't a real band. The thing that these people missed is that this fact allowed Babymetal to blend and mix all genres with metal. They don't have a band member who's stuck on one sound. Whatever mood you're in, whatever thing you're looking for... Babymetal has you covered. Su's vocals will melt your heart and Moa's smile will put it back together.

No two songs the same and i love them all . I watched them grow and mature to what we have now . Su's becoming an extraordinary vocalists who talents are not appropriate as much as they should be ( except by fans ) Moa also her vocals getting better with age .

Thanks from Japan 有難う 💛。 When I heard "Divine Attack", I thought "We (BM fans) all know this is just one of their various faces that we are going to witness from now on. Let's not be judgmental in haste." This second song has proved it, but in a more drastic way than I expected. I am now pondering on what the implication of the lyric is. 🤔

    Great reaction, thanks!
Am I a hardcore fan? Let's say I am. 😁 I find it less heavy then other songs ("Divine Attack" for example). Also with some hard rock vibe... (not much into hard rock here). But this sounds beautifully sad and dark. Let me explain: lyrics have some obscure references to the end of the world (and also to the song "No rain no rainbow" but that's a deep reference and you will need more context so you probably need to watch its live performance from "Legend S" concert in Hiroshima, Su-metal's hometown, to fully understand it) and the video depicts nuclear blasts everywhere, a world collapsing and a post-apocalyptic scenario. Luckily they ended it in an optimistic way with the only alive tree among the destruction and the final lines: "We will illuminate the world in rainbow colors. Just smile."
    Until next time!

Hey man, i was waiting for more of your BM journey, what a "great" timing wanting to release your RON reaction in this moment lol
Don't worry, you got the whole next month to keep enjoying more BM songs before releasing new single next January along with the live performance.
Btw if you liked Rondo Of Nightmare then no doubt you're gonna like this new single, since the same composer is behind.
    Welcome to BabyMetal's metalverse.🦊🤘🌐
After almost a month of released their new single "Divine Attack - Shingeki" marking the long time waited return, they just released another great new single "Monochrome" and is a song that expresses a fleeting hope during Ragnarok, which means "doomsday" in Norse mythology, that the starry skies will be wrapped in rainbow colors, all of this under the question which color were the monochrome fireworks lighting up in the night sky, from a children's eyes.
After hearing the lyrics a little bit and watching the umbrellas falling theme It could also be related to an historical sad moment we all know happened in Hiroshima which is also SuMetal birthplace.
They're making us sure that this song belongs to another world out of 10 in total of their metalverse. This time the theme runs around the Norse mythology and the Ragnarök event, we can also see an artwork which apparently show "Yggdrasil", the Norse tree of life, there's a lot more interesting things related to this tree but in general is representing the life and rebirth of the humankind after a moment of death and chaos, BM fans know that this a recurrent theme on BM lore and is always exciting. Another hint or hidden similarity reference with this tree could be the Aogiri tree, which is known in Hiroshima for being a symbol of peace after surviving that sad event.
I also noticed since a very long time ago they were using the _"Myth"_ title before every different title itself, so that could mean another hint over the concept of this album using different mythologies and their stories represented in each one of their songs, i heard another snippets sets and I can totally see that. In this case they're going with the Norse mythology which is very popular nowadays thanks to videogames like God Of War Ragnarok recently released, or even Attack On Titan (Shingeki No Kyojin) anime series, without giving so much details, which is also a theme many BM fans are relating to the world of "Divine Attack - Shingeki", their first single released.
The sound on this song reminds a little bit of good old hard rock ballad mixed with a touch of heavy metal and some complex drums always in contrast with beautiful SuMetal's vocals, i can also see the hands of Yuyoyuppe on this, he's the songwriter/composer/arranger behind songs like Megitsune, Rondo Of Nightmare, Karate and Kagerou. After watching the credits now there's no doubt is him behind this song, he knows his business and totally rocks.
I like how at the end the lyrics said "Just Smile" and then the colors are back.🙂
Kitsune up and see you next time 🦊🤘🌈

Been a fan since 2013 (Megitsune) and I love how BABYMETAL progress! Sometimes I miss the early Kawaii, but you have to remember that they're getting older and they can't do that anymore, personally I think they don't want to. This is the path they should go....they still have that pop feel, but heavier and darker. I can't wait for The Other One (but I want more guitar solos)

I really like every component of this song equally; the title, lyrics, singing, instrumentals and the video. I can usually pick out my favorite parts of a song, but Monochrome is just great all around. I don't think it's their most exciting song, but it's perfect nonetheless. The only thing missing is their choreography! I can't wait to see them in April next year.

I think you misunderstood their early music after hearing Gimme Chocolate. Their early work was *both* heavier instrumentally and more pop vocally than their recent stuff. I'll assume you enjoyed the heaviness of Rondo of Nightmare as well, and that's on that same debut album as Gimme Chocolate. Monochrome for example strikes that balance beautifully, and really shows how far they've come. It might be one of my favourites despite this reaction only being my 2nd listen. That said, it's nowhere near their heaviest. Enjoyed the reaction!

I'm a sexist prick. Can't stand it when a song kicks off with heavy guitar and drums then they are ruined by whiny female vocals. If it's a woman like Angela Gossow who never sung a girlie note in her life though. 💜
