In my opinion, the apex achievement of Minimalism. And a brilliant live performance thereof!

I would say this is far beyond minimalism. IIt It has that origin in starkness, but is internally very complex. It is melodically rich and with complex rhythm, emotional depth without romanticism. This is the incubus of modern classical form. Glass's concertos would also be in the same category.

My God. A splendid performance. Splendid cinephotography. Splendid editing. A moment of silence and then the audience erupts in applause...

@@Ugglu234 You think this is dissonance?? You clearly haven't listened to true dissonant music. LMFAOO

What a fabulous piece, so kinetic and dance-like! Interesting mix of young and older musicians too.

This is more than minimalism. This is philosophical. Also, what an incredible performance.

Have now watched a few orchestral performances of this and it is truly a chamber piece like seen here - reduced to the core, as minimal as the music itself.
I know the Ensemble Modern recording (1997) pretty well and this came quite close to it. Bravo!

I wish I could give this 1000 likes. One of my favorite pieces and probably the best performance I've ever heard. Congratulations!

Pushing the boundaries. Every era of music seems to grow a crop of musicians that can play it.

Bravo! Fantastic performance! Both versions of this are great, but I prefer this septet version. I feel it has more clarity of line, while maintaining the interesting textures. So many of my favorite performances are from ChamberFest Cleveland!

second movement: after the wasp is killed, its family mourns the loss of its child, and of their ability to live peacefully, away from the destruction of man.

Performance is great, but I don’t like this style of composition. Repeating patterns non melodically is not for me. Maybe good for tense moment in a movie but not something I'd want to listen to.
