Trypanosomiasis, which can affect both humans and animals, is caused by the Trypanosome parasite and transmitted by tsetse flies. The disease has significant economic implications, as it impacts livestock health and productivity, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa where tsetse flies are prevalent. Dr Harriet Auty’s research aims to improve animal trypanosomiasis control through collaborative work with farmers in affected areas. GKEF funding has helped the team to bring together multiple groups of affected stakeholders to share their knowledge and experiences via funding a symposium on African livestock trypanosomiasis in Tanzania.
