In the early 1970s I was a university student in Canada. I had studied eastern philosophy for some years and had become involved with psychedelics. I would not discover the Don Juan books for some two or three years. Casteneda's books would eventually explain a number of baffling experiences I had during this period. Firstly having discovered the Christian mystics; Theresa of Avalon, Meister Elkhart, St John of the Cross etc. through Aldous Huxley's Perennial Philosophy I had developed my own meditation to subdue my ego. One afternoon while walking alone on campus I was pursuing the censorship of my thoughts. Suddenly a disembodied voice loudly and clearly said "If you continue to pursue your practise you will die". I immediately heeded the warning and ended my practise. I intuitively treated this voice as having simply conveyed information. I sensed no personality, God or angel. When years later I read the Don Juan saga I learned that this is the Voice of Seeing and yes there was no one home. In another section of the books Don Juan explains that mystics in aggressively assaulting their selves are actually attacking the egg of energy enveloping us and protecting us from death. The mystic unwittingly rips open his or her cocoon of energy and perishes. Another uncanny incident occurred when home from school for a long weekend. I awoke on Sunday morning with the feeling of a heavy sphere in my head. It gradually descended through my body all day long and disappeared though my feet in the evening. Years later I read Carlos Casteneda's account of his losing the human form. It was exactly as I had experienced it. After finally discovering the Don Juan stories, so perhaps under their influence, I had other experiences as described by Carlos. I moved my assemblage point in an encounter with a telepathic young woman attacking me emotionally (magically). The most disturbing was a year and half of revelations, mind altering and often terrifying. I was forced to review many incidents from my life infusing them with new meaning and destroying my belief in my mundane life. I have only recently realized this was the Recapitulation of one's life practised as a discipline amongst warriors, but forcefully imposed upon me, having no teacher I suppose. As I am not a joiner I never sought out Carlos or his organization. But I cannot deny the power of these works. I am definitely not a nagual. Strange things happen to me but I cannot accomplish anything through my will. So now to discuss the fraud charges levied against Carlos which appear to be well authenticated. The later books of Castaneda have much to do with Stalking. Stalking is the creation of a false crisis designed to move a student's assemblage point and push them into magical realms. I believe the whole Castaneda phenomena was an exercise in Stalking. The World was Stalked. To what end. Sorry no idea.

but I thought Carlos turned to be merely a talented novelist who made up the whole thing and eventually just couldn't keep it going? which explained a reader's growing incomprehension and confusion as the series reached the end and it got more and more sort of 'garbled'. So what's going on now? They've made movies and everyone's talking about them? Or there's been a return of Carlos and it turns out he is really purporting to be some kind of mystic guru with 'powers'? Or what? I felt kinda cheated at the end, back then. Since then I have learned about NDE and see it as the simple 'answer to everything' and the 'mystical truth' of everything and it seems clear to me now that any 'in depth', 'behind the curtain' metaphysical work that doesn't put the 'answer' as clearly as the NDE things do is fraudulent. Which doesn't mean I don't like a good yarn. Just I like to distinguish good yarns from fact. :)
neo platonists and sages of all times have known that esoterical truths are, esoterical. And can better be learned through the internal process that yarns and myths and aenigmata convey than by the pretense of factual statements, that end up deluding and obscuring the real depth of the truth
Casteneda declined to have movies made, despite the fortune he could have made. That leads me to conclude that he didn't write for money or made up the whole story. There's a quote somewhere that he didn't want Don Juan to be reduced to an Anthony Quinn role.

@@LadtheMad I don't believe all that. I don't believe anything that's hard to find. Usually a con or a misunderstanding or just plain wishful thinking or stupidity. In the serious real world there's just the simple 'mystical' truths those NDE people come back with is enough.
Yeah, I read all these books too, and you know what I think? Now that I've read more widely and deeply into various mystical traditions and practices, it seems pretty clear that Don Juan is a rhetorical device that Castaneda uses to disclose a philosophical system which is clearly not of Toltec origins. In fact, its all Kabbalistic mysticism combined with an ecclectic hodge-podge of monastic ascetical practice and the philosophical speculations of Spinoza, Kant, Hegel and Nietzsche. In other words, Castaneda is an original storyteller, but his story isn't original or even factual. But that's okay because its 'coyote wisdom' or some such bullshit to New Age seekers. The dude was probably funded by the CIA. You think you have time, but I think you have Chaim.
Don Juan sounds like a stoned construction worker. He keeps talking in riddles and we are supposed to be in awe? Imagine if you told Don Juan: No Don Juan, YOU don’t understand. If the velocity of money is stable and you can asume it constant and the GDP as well, what does that tell you about the Money Supply? Ehhh? Speak up Don Juan, don’t be afraid l the Money Supply. You have to change. I can’t hear you now! Are you just going to looked puzzled like you didn’t know who Alan Greenspan was? (You can also use a cooking recipe for this exercise nd any number of other things, just speak with authority about whatever none-sense you say).
This happens everytime a character, fictional or otherwise, portrays itself as 'wise'. So, the next time you feel you have some unseen wisdom to impart on your fellow humans........remember the idiocy of what you just described. I'd go so far as to say - wisdom that one can't articulate is not wisdom at all. It's just experience.

What are you talking about and where can I join in please & thank you ❤
@@cleft_3000 When Carlos first tried to teach for free in public parks, likely near Santa Monica, he couldn't. He got hecklers. So he had to set up the workshops with armed guards and paid entry. It wasn't his desire, but our community is filled with bad men pretending to have knowledge. We get the same now, trying to restore his reputation. An average of 3 per week have to be tossed out. For that reason, you'll have to figure out where to go on your own. Kind of like an entrance fee to a workshop, to prove you aren't just a heckler.
Why does the speaker pronounce Don Juan’s name as Don Kwan?
He’s Korean
That's how Juan is pronounced in proper Spanish. It's authentic and I appreciate it.
Don one lol
@siliconavalleys hell no, that's not how u pronounce it
Dwelling on death by focusing on how short time is, is a waste of time. Death doesn't exist while you're alive. Death and life are two different universes. Death simply doesnt matter while you're alive and death, with it's subsequent short time model, is irrelevant. Awareness of having a short time comes from creation, work. Not death. What do you want to build? Can you get it accomplished? That is the only read ok nsble awareness of having a short time.
However, if you're a hunter, live by the sword, die by the sword. A hunters only sense of time is his stomach, and by necessity, death does wait at the accomplishment of every mission, for somebody

Of course you have time! Most of our time is wasted. 99% of humans waste their's on earth and then they died, not really knowing what the real purpose of life was. To them raising a family and having a job and other inanities constituted their whole life. i was disapointed when my friend told me he invented don juan, not a real person, misleading
He made him real in your mind, what more do you want?
95% of what you read in your life is made up, fake and invented for a purpose. Yet it affects your mind.
If Don Juan was really Casteneda, than that's impressive
no that would be fantasy and make it literature. Tolkien was not a wizard.
Okay... But what if I argued that it's possible Tolkien at least communed with Spirit wizards. These guys are simply Too Good at writing aren't they?@@paradoxlust
But I actually come in on it being fact that there was a Nagual "Don Juan MAtus"@@paradoxlust

Huh? Can you share please?
Maybe. Some sacrifice themselves because of a passage in a book,a song, because they believe in any number of things.
I wonder who thought civilization was a good idea, and how many deaths has it's creation caused,..and how many more are to come?
Our species prefers the artificial over the natural - we innovate therefore we are superior.
We protect and elevate the weak - that which nature detroys.
In this artificial environment all roads lead to casualties.
Take your pick.

but I thought Carlos turned to be merely a talented novelist who made up the whole thing and eventually just couldn't keep it going? which explained a reader's growing incomprehension and confusion as the series reached the end and it got more and more sort of 'garbled'.
@@UnknownPascal-sc2nk Is he not making anything from this stuff now, then? I know nothing because I never heard much but what I did hear I think was about him being a student somewhere and he had to write something - so he started writing this... and it got away from him.
Love to know more. Facts Truth. If it can be found anywhere.
I was big on mull and mushrooms back then and was more than willing to believe all that kind of stuff... disappointment when it all (to me at least) turned into incomprehensible stuff at the end there... And then stopped. Love to be able to put a good end to it now.
@@LadtheMad I don't believe all that. I don't believe anything that's hard to find. Usually a con or a misunderstanding or just plain wishful thinking or stupidity. All the metaphysical answers I reasonably want I think I've got in the NDE reports. Course I'd love to have super mystic abilities to like - what? transport myself anywhere, manufacture anything anytime? all that kind of stuff. But that's not serious. In the serious real world there's just the simple 'mystical' truths those NDE people come back with is enough.
He died 25 years ago.@@abrogard142
Chaim?

Too bad he went crazy and started a cult.

Lol....totally
This happens everytime a character, fictional or otherwise, portrays itself as 'wise'. So, the next time you feel you have some unseen wisdom to impart on your fellow humans........remember the idiocy of what you just described. I'd go so far as to say - wisdom that one can't articulate is not wisdom at all. It's just experience.
@@jeanlundi2141 Yea, but if you follow his advice you get to physically travel between worlds, with companions. Levitate small objects, open tunnels between people, play with real spirits who can move objects and are fully visible. Essentially, he really was "wise". You're thinking of everything else, designed to steal money. This is 8000 year old shamanism, from before money, so before there was a reason to make up stuff. Follow the rabbit hole, there are 30 of 40 openly doing the impossible now. Or don't. Lazy won't cut it with real magic.
Jaded man. You ran across the real thing, actual magic. But you're stuck in your hellish obsession with earning a living, in a single world.
