Who is Hugo Fernández?
Hugo Fernández Martín is an 11-year-old left-footed central midfielder of Real Madrid's youth team who shines in the U11 “Alevin B” squad. In Valdebebas, where Real Madrid's training ground, called La Fábrica, is located, they claim that Hugo is the best young player in the entire Merengues academy!
For three years in a row, he was recognized as the Footballer of the Year in each youth group he was a part of - Benjamin B, Benjamin A as well as Alevin B. So now the young man wants to jump even higher!
The first time we heard about Fernandez was last year, when the kid was still 10. During El Clásico between Real Madrid U10 and Barcelona U10 squads, he made a brace and delivered an assist, helping Los Blancos to secure a 4-1 win! In April, Fernandez and Real Madrid continued to fight for trophies they hadn't won yet! The Merengues traveled to the TAR U11 Promises event and made it to the semi-finals, where they lost to Real Betis. Hugo traditionally charmed everyone with his goals, collected several MVP awards and was included in the tournament's best XI. Real only needed a victory, but the top four is still a pretty good result.
Besides, in May, the young representatives of the Spanish club participated in the international Leclerc Risle Cup and this time they managed to do better and beat all their opponents! The cup that was handed to Fernandez was as big as half of Hugo's body!
On top of all mentioned titles, Fernández and co. became the champions of Group 1 of the División de Honor Alevín F7 with two matches to go. The team won 24 out of 24 matches played, scored 225 goals and conceded only 10! We're not sure if it's true or not, but social media reports that Hugo has racked up 43 goals, or 19% of Real Madrid's overall tally, with an average of 1.8 goals per game! Playing as 11 years old and as 22 years old is difference as hell and heaven. This tendency in modern football (post Messi) is just to grab attention. Now every kid scoring goal in some local match gets compared with Messi/Ronaldo. Things changes when kids grow up. At this age, it means NOTHING. It is a long long way to go. Have seen many many kids even leaving football at the age of 16-17 due to pressure, earlier who thought they were next Messi at the age of 12.
