The 10 Most DANGEROUS Cities in New York

  • Holy crap! These are the places in New York that are CRAZY dangerous!
If you had paid attention on UA-cam, you would have known to stay away from the subway. You would have known to just stay away from New York City entirely.
When you look at crime numbers, the northeast is totally safe. I mean it’s not perfect, and there’s druggies and thieves around every corner, but when it comes to violence, it’s not too bad actually. Look at this map. Every single other state in the northeast is blue. And blue is good. Yes, even New Jersey. But NY is about average. It’s far more dangerous in this state than anywhere else in the region.
Especially in the places we’ll talk about.
New York! There were 70,000 violent crimes in this state last year, which is just terrible. And crime in the state of New York is up by a whopping 45% year over year. Take into consideration the huge rise in crime, the crowds, the traffic and the cost of living, and it’s no wonder this is the state with the third highest number of refugees. In the last two years alone, more than 140,000 people have fled this state for good. People are just voting with their feet. Or their moving vans.
People don’t want to live here like they used to. I mean if you can do your job from home and not have to worry about getting robbed or beaten up, what’s the point of living here?
Of course, crime in the state of New York is down from its peak in the 1990s. That’s the case across the nation. Yes, believe it or don’t, but we’re actually much safer now than we were 30 years ago. But the violence is going back up again, and fast, mister.
In the cities we’re going to talk about, there are robberies in broad daylight, car jackings and daily shootings. There are crack heads breaking into homes and lots and lots of overdoses. There’s neighborhoods in most of these cities that you shouldn’t drive through, and certainly should be avoided after dark.
Special thanks to Michael Pena - who has the UA-cam channel Neighborhood Guy for all the awesome footage of New York’s worst hoods. You should subscribe to Neighborhood Guy on UA-cam. His channel is great!

I am a professional therapist. You are oversimplifying urban problems to the point of utter credulity. If you have ever taken a sociology course or a social psychology course, it went completely over your head. There are people who are hopelessly broken. We have to invest in the next generation in meaningful, and expensive ways. Violent crime spiked during COVID and we expect to see that in immediate future, it will trend downward.

Hi Nick, New York is so complex to live here it has great possibilities but a lot of pitfalls and it's always difficult to navigate through those times and this is where you find out who and what you need to do and sometimes it may be too late. Overall it's an amazing city but only if you are really lucky to experience the wonderful things about it. I still believe if you have a chance to travel and see and experience other cities and places outside New York you gain a different perspective and it allows you to grow as a human being to make better choices.

Its nearest Station was 191st Street (even he said it was scary!), but he tried to go to a station in the 180's because 191st Street Station is just scary. I was born in Binghamton and my grandparents lived in Binghamton…both came from Poland in the early 1900’s. Babchi and Dziadek had 10 children and my grandfather worked at Endicott Johnson. They had a big house in a Polish neighborhood with the Catholic Church on the corner. They were such good people…so full of love. I guess you might call it a poor neighborhood but all the ladies had gardens (lots of poppies for poppy seed cakes and cookies…wonder what my blood morphine levels were after a visit) and they would sweep the steps and sidewalks every morning. Lots of good memories…hope Binghamton turns around someday. Hey thanks Nick!

First off....the responder in this clip is utterly and completely correct.
Like most that make a comment NYC has returned to being a shithole..!!
I'm born and raised in Bensonhurst. I worked almost all my life as a Police Officer with NYPD. I was stationed at the 32 Pct. In the middle 80's when we would average 2600 homicides a year.
It was the worst place on the entire planet to live and work.
When Giuliani was Mayor things became vastly better and remained like that for a very long time. But recently, within the last 3 or 4 years things are returning to there old ways. Crime is up and more important the people are rude and narcissistic. They don't care about others at all and crime, even the lesser crimes are in a abundance, with the Police unable to take any action at all.
When I go out and drive my car it's just a nightmare. Acts of any kindness are completely absent from life.
It has become a hideous city..!!
And now, a time to leave.
I'm moving to one of the mid cities near the north Dallas area. I have been there many times and it's actually what I've been looking for.
I wish all who are staying .... good luck

Move out reasons understood. A big problem with any major move is transplantees bringing their values to a new neighborhood and being totally out of sync with their new neighbors. Example is a city dweller moving to the country and immediately complaining about the neighbor's chickens crowing at 5:00am, or dogs barking, children playing, minibikes, fireworks/firearms use, or the smell of cow or horse manure. No neighborhood is accepting when the new neighbors are not.

I dislike this State, whether downstate or upstate, NY is NOT a good place to live. It’s expensive, dangerous and the quality of life is near to zero amigo. I’ve been to Staten Island, and is a smaller strip of land with more “livable” areas but with bad ones also; mostly suburban. Wanted to move there once, until hurricane Sandy which destroyed over 500 homes and over 20 deaths there. No thank you. Long Island, I lived there in Babylon, good and too quiet, and there’s this weird vibe. Certain areas in Long island are filling with the Mara Salvatrucha MS16 gang, so its getting bad out there as well.

I live in Rochester New York I know so many people that have moved out of ny. One of the biggest reasons people are moving is the cost of living and high taxes. Property taxes are really high for instance I paid 125k for my house in 2017 it’s a small 1,000 square foot house with less then 1 acre of land, I live in the country like the middle of nowhere and my taxes are 4,500 per year. It pretty much works to where ur property taxes are just as much as ur mortgage payment, sales tax is 8%, high income taxes, it’s super expensive to run a business and alot of the laws in ny people absolutely hate. Lots of the big businesses have gone out of business or have down sized by like 95% kodak is just one of the businesses. One of my friends just moved to Atlanta Georgia into a 150k house, his property taxes are 1,000 per year and taxes all around are cheaper down there.

Upstate NY has so much potential as an alternative to the high cost and crowds in NYC but being in the rust belt, the deterioration began in the 80s. I remember studying what was about to come when I was an Urban Studies major in college.
As for NYC, I grew up here and the worst period was the 90s. I believe the recent rise in crime is associated with the psychological and economic impact from COVID. Job loss, isolation, whole families working/schooling from home in small spaces was very difficult. I feel less safe on the subway than I have in 25 years. The whole city isn’t bad, though. I noticed that you filmed in the South Bronx. Well, that’s one of the worst parts of the city.
    (Added 3/22)
Knock on wood, these are the only violations I’ve experienced in NYC and having had a sales job, traveling in every bad part of the city during the worst years, I’ve either been incredibly lucky or it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. Yes, you witness a lot of bizarre behavior that is disturbing but if you’re smart, you learn how to navigate the city to minimize risk.
Late 70s: Childhood home in Queens burglarized. School bus pass snatched at Queens bus stop.
80s-90s: Various car parts stolen (windshield wipers, hatchback window). Car broken into and glass shattered to steal radio. Car broken into and glove box broken.
    2016: Hubcaps stolen.
I am thinking about moving following my retirement to reduce costs. If I were going to leave for safety reasons, I would have done it during the mass exodus of the 80s-90s, when many of my peers left for a safer environment to raise kids and for better schools.

Hey, Nick. My first trip to NYC, in 1989, was to volunteer with a charity for homeless teens. Turned out they had a scandal when I arrived in March, so they didn't accept my application. I eventually got a place in VOA shelter on Ward Island in the East River. That's where some of the support "pillars" for the Triborough Bridge are. The scene at the end of The French Connection (spoiler alert) shows the road above where I stayed.
This was at the end of Mayor Koch's term. Many would agree NY City was more dangerous then. One accomplishment of Giuliani was that crime was reduced. I've been back a few times since. It seemed not so bad since my first time. In 1989, according to several people with whom I spoke, the most dangerous places were Flatbush in Brooklyn, some parts of Harlem, Hell's Kitchen, but not as bad as a hundred years of ago, some neighborhoods in the Bronx, and Astoria, in Queens.

I promise you Newburgh is the worst place in the entire state outside of a few pockets in the boroughs. There is no place overall in New York more horrible than Newburgh.

I lived in Brooklyn for 37 years moved to upstate 5 years ago. It's getting bad up here also.Lot's of NYC people moving up here some good some bad.I don't know if i made the right choice moving up here time will tell.A farmer from lancaster PA once told me the only difference between the country side and city is the scenery.I wish i took his advise.

I agree that NYC is definitely not the best place to live, but to be fair, it’s a huge city with many different neighborhoods. Your video only showed the South Bronx, which is not a nice place to live at all, but there are so many other neighborhoods that are actually very nice, have much lower crime rates and are so much more prettier than the South Bronx. There are some really pretty areas and safe neighborhoods in NYC. I’m a native New Yorker planning on relocating, but NYC is not as bad as your video portrayed. You should have also showed some of the better neighborhoods to put it in the proper perspective. I imagine that would also be the case for the other cities you mentioned as well.

I couldn't get through the NYC section because of his attitude, but he really only ever shows the South Bronx? He's really playing to his audience here.... He's said he tries to poke fun at both parties, but after watching a few of his videos, it's clear that he really dislikes liberals. He even buys into the idea that people are leaving CA for TX because of the progressive policies - it's because those policies have been so successful that the state is incomprehensibly rich and expensive. People move to TX to turn it blue.

I went to Niagara Falls back in July of 2023! But luckily, I wasn't on the American side, which is all run-down, just like you said. I was on the Canadian side, which was BOOMIN'!!!

You were absolutely hilarious in your costume, Nick! AND you mentioned Cary where I live, but we closed on house in the "Quay" Fuquay-Varina. Got a good deal! Made $60,000 in equity from the time we entered contract until closing.

I live in a small town near Syracuse, NY... it is bad. this state has gotten worse and worse over the past couple decades. I am doing some heavy research on what state to move to so i can finally leave this sh*thole state. which is a bummer, i was born and raised here, the Addirondak Mountains are gorgeous but the politicians of this state have ruined it! I will be a statistic in the exodus out of NY very soon!

Hi, did you find out what state/states are the best to live in the US? I am from Europe, consider currently emigration to the US.

Born and raised in Binghamton. It's not that bad, but its true there is a lack of real career options. Plus the amount of gangs and drugs don't make it any easier to work in retail. There are decent jobs here but you wont find anything that pays over 50k a year thats not already filled. And student housing (literally 90% of anything nice) has forced most to live in low class run down complexes or houses in bad areas.
