This one got away from me!I thought had seen every episode of this classic rainbow!I am 49 nearly fifty and I still love watching my childhood TV shows! rainbow should be given a return to our TV sets are children would love to watch rainbow on there own TV sets.ty for sharing this video...
lol you're right, this is a pretty strange episode. Also I wonder if those two robots props at the start were used for any other tv shows over the years. I can't imagine they made them and only ever used them for that short 1 minute segment
Yes, that does look like a lot of effort for what's basically a throwaway scene. Perhaps Thames were making something science-fictiony at the time - I'll have to look into it!
What is amazing here is that Jeffery sounds like the original Cybermen that was originally voiced Roy Skelton , by the bloke who is the voice of Zippy and George
I so remember this episode! Those two robots at the start (based on C3PO and R2D2) wouldn't have looked out of place in an episode of Dr Who. The idea of this episode was also reused in an episode of Sooty, the one where Matthew becomes 'Robbie the Robot'. Now all this episode needed was a cameo from Kraftwerk to top it off... ;-)
I remember this episode. I'm not sure if it was the last in the series, but it was DEFINITELY shown on a Friday in 1984 - I remember that because it was the only day of the week my mother allowed us to watch TV in school uniform. This episode fascinated me because I always wondered how Geoffrey was able to do that robot voice. It was also unusual for Rod, Jane, and Freddy to have their voices heard immediately after their song.
Haha - what a great reason to remember what day this was broadcast! And, you're right - the Rod, Jane and Freddy numbers normally existed in their own right away from the rest of the action, but here it crosses over with the main storyline. I hadn't picked up on that.
I would imagine that kids were freaked out by the tall robot at the start; Uncanny Valley and all that. I reckon a lot of dads enjoyed watching this with their kids too and seeing Jane in her futuristic get-up.

Did Kraftwerk try to sue Rod, Jane and Freddy?

That robot drawing reminded me of metal Mickey loved rainbow as a kid
Lady Gaga wishes she owned Jane's robot catsuit and wig.

The guy that's sitting down is Bungle actor Malcolm Lord.

Rod Jane and Freddy were a bit like The Rah Band.
The man who voiced George and Zippy also voiced Daleks.
And the original Cybermen
14:06 Did Bungle Reference Disney’s The Jungle Book?
The Robot, I remember when Romeo had his Robot in PJ Masks
RJF discovering Depeche Mode. There was at least one other Robox story (read by Geoffrey) but not with the fake German accent.
That makes a change! Zippy isn't interested in his food 😱 lol

3:57 Geoffrey has become a Cyberman.
And Zippy (a.k.a. Roy Skelton) is a Dalek. Was Bungle ever the Doctor's assistant? ;-)
