Here, you will read a very detailed account about the mission of the Graf Spee and it would also tie up with your other video, 'The Altmark Incident', considering the Altmark was the supply ship for the Graf Spee.
The prisoners inside the Altmark were from the sailors of the ships sunk by the Graf Spee.

I like how you even put detail into the soviet invasion of Finland during the winter war
HMS Warspite was a veteran of the WW1 battle of Jutland and served with distinction in all theaters during WW2. Beautiful ship, I can't believe the British government scrapped her after the war. As she was being towed to the scrappers yard she broke away and ran aground at a place called Prussia Cove, almost as if she was determined to take one final crack at the Germans.

@@ArcticTemper she was in such a state of disrepair I don’t think it would’ve been viable in any time to restore her unfortunately. Especially not in a time where keeping ships for museum ships wasn’t much of a thing

I'd like to point out that Captain Roope was also recommended for the Victoria Cross by the Admiral Hipper's captain, Hellmuth Heye, who wrote to the Admirality via the Red Cross and praised his and his crew's gallantry.

Those British destroyers coming back w "Big Brother Warspite" was probably an ohh shit moment for the Kriegsmarine.
They knew that the Royal Navy was coming back but literally couldn't do anything about it. No point in returning to Germany they would have been intercepted immediately. They just unpacked as much as they could before UK came back.
The British were gone, but not for long.

This reminds me of a comment in Historigraph's video on Dreadnoughts,

actually, Warspite was hit by a torpedo but it didn't blow. It would have been sunk before a Fjord is actually not a good place for a battleship
The H.M.S Glowworm was an incredible and quite unlucky story. The heavy cruiser Hippper sent its two accompanying destroyers to search for a man that had fallen overboard and in the fog they ran into Glowworm, Hipper did so much damage to Glowworm they basically had no other option but to ram it and go down kamikaze style.
The really sad thing is that the captain, Roope actually survived and didn't go down with the ship but couldn't hold onto the German rope pulling him up and he drowned.
If you see the German photos you will understand why. The Bunker Oil they are swimming through make it look like a muddy swamp, a very cold slippery swamp, then to climb a small rope ladder. There are a couple of other interesting photos, Glowworm firing her torpedoes after losing her bow and a moving one of her up side down with men on the hull taken through Hippers gun site.

Yep; doing the research for this video has reinforced my view that hoi4 is totally inadequate at representing the war at sea at present. Hopfully Man the Guns will help.

I just visited Norway and have some family there who died in WW2 during the invasion and the ensuing resistance. It's really nice to be able to see detailed videos, such as the ones you create on this topic, as it's overshadowed by the rest of the war. Love the content!

A rather good summary of the invasion, thanks for this, there are however a few small inaccuracies: The "Norge" and "Eidsvoll" were not patrol boats but old 4200 tons coast defense ships. The "Eidsvoll" was subject to a surprise attack while the negotiator's boat was still in water, while the "Norge" was sunk during combat.
The invasion of Kristiansand succeeded because the coastal fortress did not open fire due to a misunderstanding believing that British / French ships had arrived, not by air raids.
At Bergen, the Konigsberg was crippled by three 21 cm shells by coastal fortress Kvarven and could not return to Germany, she was sunk by bombs while still berthed in port of Bergen.

6:30 I have said before there is a real usually self-imposed disadvantage to being the best and strongest. You don't expect your enemy to challenge you, so if they do, they have the element of surprise, which can more than make up for the disparate in strength.

I wish historical items such as flags or insignia didnt need to be censored. Its for educational purposes right
If you mean the famous german law, it's allowed for educational, documentary and artisan use. Basically it's only forbidden to sport it for political reasons or pure 'fun' (if that fun doesn't fall under the protection of art). The law doesn't specifically outlaws Nazi-symbols, but "anti-constitutional symbols", meaning that you could probably get as much trouble for an ISIS-flag.
The whole internet flurry over it just blew up because the german law practice didn't recognise videogames as falling under the protection of art until recently and their precious WW2 shooters got censored. Recently, there is a bit movement towads considering videogames as art and thus protected. There is an argument to be made, that for art you'd need at least some artisan intention and that (most) videogame developers are not making art, but rather digital toys. But thats another topic.
In this case, i think it might have more to do with avoiding UA-cams content moderation.
As someone else stated in this comment section "The swastika is not a martyr for free speech."

My Grandfather was on the Destroyer "Anton Schmitt" during this operation "Weserübung". He survived the war an died 2019 at the age of 103.

I absolutely love the detailed description in these videos, doing everything that my history teachers did not, being danish, they focused much more on the following resistance movement. However, I was under the impression that the sizing of Aalborg Airfield in Denmark was the first ever use of paratroopers (due to its importance to the invasion of norway). But it might just be a technicality, since it was all the same operation.
The FIRST EVER succesful paratrooper attack in the world was actually the German attack on the fort of Masnedø between the Danish Islands of Sealand and Falster. The aim was to secure the connecting bridges between the two Islands allowing the Germans to move north towards the capital of Copenhagen. The rwo next attack (no. 2 and 3. In the World) was against the airports of Aalborg, Denmark and Fornebu at Oslo, Norway. I don't have the exact timing but they were within 1-2 hours apart.

Just want to point out one thing; the picture used at around the 11 minute mark is from Bergen and not Oslo.
You would not see mountains in the background of any photo from the city center of Oslo as it's quite flat.

The still picture used when you're talking about the invasion of Oslo at about the 11 minute mark is actually a picture from Bergen. There is, however a very similar picture from Karl Johan, Oslo taken that very same day

The royal family escaped to Elverum a norwegian city and went to a house where they got greeted and that house is a house owned not by me but my heritage and family and they still live there today even tho i live somewhere else where the heritage started the name is aakraann
I'm pretty sure the picture at around 11 minutes is from Bergen even though you talk about Oslo. It seems to be taken from where the fish market is. I might be mistaken though.
Edit: But it's such a small mistake that it really doesn't take away from the video. Great work as always. :)
Slight correction around 11:20 - The Conquest of Denmark, the "Six hour war", took as the name would suggest, 6 hours. To be more specific, the germans first landed in Copenhagen and on Lolland at 3:15, and the official surrender was sent out roughly 5 hours later, taking a total of 45 minutes to reach the final troops in Jutland, marking the end of the conquest at somewhere around 9 AM, give or take 10 minutes. In total, its believed the conquest took 5 hours and 45 minutes, which is often rounded up to 6 hours, simply for simplicity
To add, the german torpedo crisis played a huge role. Royal navy would have lost several larger ships but the hits didn't blow them up. You can find the ships hit in old german U-boat logs.

The picture on 11:56 is of Lutzow in port in Germany after being damaged leaving Oslo.

I am actually working on a lesson for a Norwegian learning group, for this Sunday, on Norway during WWII. This video (and the one on the Altmark Incident) have been very informative. I will be including links to the videos in the lesson.
It’s a shame it’s this Sunday, as I will have another video relating to Norway 1940 out next week!
Well, next Sunday we plan on watching a film together (probably "Max Manus: Man of War"). Before we do so, we could watch the third video together as well.
