    The five-episode series tells the timely story of the unprecedented relationship between acclaimed New York Times best-selling author and memoirist Jillian Lauren (‘Some Girls: My Life in a Harem’) and the most prolific serial killer in American history, Samuel Little, and her race against time to identify his victims before it’s too late (Little recently died in prison at the age of 80, after having avoided justice for his crimes for decades). Lauren uncovers Little’s darkest secrets and aids law enforcement in solving a multitude of cold case murders while struggling to reconcile her own history of addiction and abuse with her present-day mission to return the identities of previously nameless bodies and forgotten women. As she slips deeper into his sordid world, Jillian realizes that she may become, psychologically, Little’s last victim.
    Through the perspectives of Lauren, as well as several female members of law enforcement, multiple investigators, survivors and victims’ family members, “Confronting a Serial Killer” shines a light on systemic issues within the criminal justice system including bias against marginalized communities, particularly women of color, and those struggling with addiction, mental illness, and trauma.

    She really did make this all about herself. maybe I was paying a little bit more attention in the third episode, because I know I heard her say the word "I" a thousand times. Her annoying self-centered behavior is what initially prompted me to go to Google to do a review on this show giving it a one-star as well as my thoughts on the entire thing, ended up here. When I saw her oldest boy who already seems to be a little flamboyant, painting her fingernails, I was like this chick is doing way too much. I'm not at all surprised at the comments in here about her making it about herself. through a place I used to work at, I wound up hearing one of their calls in its entirety. I say 'call' because you could hardly count it as an 'interview'...
    I can imagine they just used scrap pieces out of their interactions for this series, because most of it was both of them flagrantly flirting with each other in a way that only a man with a 90+ body count could get off on. she was extremely psychologically manipulative throughout, her version of building a rapport was basically pretending to be his girlfriend and going along with him claiming her as his property in a way that was terrifying despite him being behind bars. I really can't express just how disturbing the whole conversation was. we dealt with a lot of serious evidence like police interviews with murderers and 911 calls, but this one always stuck out for me.

    AND ….. violence against woman in THIS country?? Women in African countries, women in Muslim countries, women in Mexico….. to name a few….. some of them are killed if they’re raped, stoned to death. So many countries where women never report rape because they risk the likely occurrence of cases not even looked at and women are frowned upon for even attempting to get justice. I have done a lot of volunteer work and this country’s women have so much more freedom and way more protection. We still have a ridiculously high number of things we NEED to improve for victims and cases. We have millions of human beings living here and some of them are evil. The courts and justice system need help!
    Acting as if our country is anywhere similar to those country’s pre mentioned here makes it clear that you don’t know about most of the women’s lives on our planet that live in those countries. Yes, our system needs help , we also live in a country that offers the best quality of life for women.

    I remember one time he was arrested in Louis, Missouri, for “intent to ravish rape” even though the victim completely proved her claim and location and he only served 3 MONTHS. Then in 82’ after shoplifting in Pascagoula, Mississippi, police described him as matching the suspect of Melinda Rose Lapree’s murder. He got charged and the grand jury declined to indict him. Right after he is charged with the rape and murder of Patricia Ann Mount in Gainesville, Florida. She was found naked, covered in bruises and lying face up. After deliberating for less than a half hour jurors acquitted him of all charges and he was a free man once again. This is not even a fraction of all the demonic acts he committed I’ll be the first to watch this.

    I am sure there is truth to the idea that marginalized people, like homeless people, get less investigative enthusiasm. But I it serves the larger society little to blame his killing on race. His black victims were likely chosen by him because they were accessible not due to the color of their skin per se. He hunted them where he was comfortable and could operate undetected. That's what fiends do.

      There are massive disparities in attention given to certain victims. Take a look at the MMIW (murdered and missing indigenous women). The rates are staggering and too often families are left to search for lost love ones with no help from law enforcement whatsoever.

    Didn't watch the movie. Serial killers: John Gacy, Jack the ripper, Bruce MacArthur, Jeffrey Dahmer, Isreal, Golden State, Klemper, Ted Bundy. Most serial killers are hard to capture, but authorities probably didn't care about the capture of Sam Little's 93 victims since the majority of them were women of color. All serial killers are horrible. I don't know why they report it on TV to give people ideas. I hope the FBI and professionals develop techniques to capture without a lot of publizied advertising.✌️

    I'm a residential school surviver and I appreciate how you identified with the women he murdered and victimised. I've said many times that there is a war happening on this planet that has been from the beginning of time and that's the war of men against women. We are raised and taught to even hate each other. We have to sister up to stop this so flippant attitude most have when it comes to most victims. Blaming the victim has to stop. It's a beginning to us crawling out of the dark ages.

      Women murderers account for 12% of arrests.slrd are murder victims 3 x as much as females.
      If you have been the victim of female assault your experience will likely tell you the same thing as statistics ... women commit acts 1: of life threatening violence for the same reasons as most male perps ... jealousy, revenge, rejection, seperation

    • @bdoon51
      @bdoon51 7 місяців тому

      Unfortunately often when police intervention or requested they automatically assume the male is the instigator. Twice I was slammed against a wall while cop " consoled" my wife. She thought I was unfaithful though at those times I was not. Eventually I was.l figured I had paid in advance. Eventually a false Officer read the situation for what it was and under threat of arrest we had to attend very tough groups/partners counseling for 12 weeks, 3 nights a week for 2.5 to 3 hours a night. No more fending off a woman with a knife in her hands In fact we are still together.Counseling done right is painful and embarrassing. Getting open and honest after years of little deceptions took the first 6 weeks with lots of screaming, crying and anger. Staff were teams, one professional and one para professional.

    Seems as if she used her womanly charm and flirtatiously finessed Sam out of a confession, getting him to talk. "I didn't set out to solve a murder", she says. I was like get off of your high horse. Detectives and police officers do this every day all day, they say what happened, shake a few hands, maybe get a medal or an commendation and move on.

    Most docs focus on the predator and this one shines a light on the ugly truth. I can look past her talking about herself because if that makes her a better person and help others I don’t see the issue. Too many exploit others at their expense and she told the victims story! She could have been one of his victims and has a similar past so ofc she can relate to the victims.

    So she asks him about his upbringing, and he claims he was sexually abused. She then writes some very insensitive, non empathetic remarks about it. Yet she claims she was abused, which drove her to drugs and selling herself for sex. The parallels are remarkable, if not inverted, but there's also a degree of hypocrisy here. Because he 'became' a serial killer of women, many drug induced sex workers, doesn't mean you should glaze over the trauma he experienced prior. It's clear she doesn't care, she just cares about herself and chasing the dollar... just like a druggo whore would.
