This movie moves Colombians, because one of the most emotional scenes in the film reminds us of the displacement and violence that many of us experience as a result of the wars between guerrillas, paramilitaries, drug traffickers and the government. It reminds us of how many of our families lost one of their pillars (Dad) and how Mom had to rebuild her family from the ashes after losing everything. Our grandmothers and mothers are heroines for Colombians, they gave everything to rebuild their families, and our country. That is why the role of the grandmother in this film is important because thanks to all her sacrifices to her great strength, our house is being rebuilt, our beautiful home Colombia.

The expressiveness of the faces in this movie is unmatched. When Abuela Alma's younger incarnation cries out as Pedro sacrifices himself, it is one of the most devastating expressions of loss and greif I have seen. The far more subtle expression in her devastated face shortly after, just before she puts on the black shawl, is no less powerful and amazingly realized.

I love that the candle depicts a butterfly. The butterfly is the symbol of change and the soul. And Pedro sacrificed himself, then seconds after his death the candle changes and magic happens. And their house is sentient and responds to requests. Especially to Abuela and Mirabel. I have a theory that the House is possessed by Grandpa's soul, and the cracks is him getting angry and sad that after his sacrifice and all that happened, they're now turning on Mirabel for not having some magical power, instead of making each other feel safe and happy as family should.

While I've since seen the translation, the song is so intimate, the scenes so heartbreaking Sr.Yartra could be singing a city's traffic codes and I'd still be bawling. Incidently, Abuela uses this same melody for her verse in "The Family Madrigal".

I love how the music swells at the end, and we hear Pedro's sweet vocal echoing their song as if on the wind, or in a memory, testimony to the truth of Abuela's words of reconciliation. Pedro really did send Mirabel, one last manifestation of the miracle, to his beloved Alma. Making the entire story of the family, the town, the encanto, the children's gifts, all of it, an outgrowth, an outpouring of Pedro and Alma's never-ending, everlasting love....

That is Disney’s English version, but they are not the most accurate lyrics (I actually speak Spanish). Here are the actual lyrics:
    Two little caterpillars,
    In love
    Spend their nights
    And mornings
Full of hunger (yearning/longing is the meaning of this type of hunger, so it’s not referring to food),
    They continue going
    And navigating a world
    That changes and continues changing
    Navigating a world
    That changes and continues changing
    Two little caterpillars
    Stop in the wind
    While they are hugging
    With (deep) sentiments,
    They keep on growing
    They don’t know when
    To look for a rip
In the time that keeps on changing
    They’re inseparable,
    But time keeps on changing
Oh (“Aye” is actually “oh” in Spanish, it can also mean “ow!” Or “oops!” depending on context) little caterpillars
    Don’t keep holding on
    You need to grow
    Apart and return
To the road you must follow up ahead (literal words are up ahead, you will follow, but that doesn’t make sense in English, which is probably why Disney changed it, but the reason the change is so significant is because Disney’s English version eludes that the caterpillars reunite, but they don’t, they turn to the path meant for them to continue forward; understandable mistranslation).
There will be miracles (miracles are coming for a literal translation)
There will be chrysalises (chrysalises are coming; literal).
You need to separate (from each other; Spanish doesn’t have to say things word for word to imply a meaning due to feminine, masculine, and plural articles)
    And construct
    Your own future!
    Altogether a second time:
    Oh, little caterpillars
    Don’t keep holding on
    You need to grow
    Apart and return
To the road you must follow up ahead
    There will be miracles
    There will be chrysalises
You need to separate from each other
    And construct
    Your own future!
    🎶Oh oh oh 🎶
    Two little caterpillars
    Disoriented
    In two cocoons
    Wrapped up tightly
    With new dreams
    All that’s left (to do)
    Is what is necessary
For a world that keeps on changing,
Making the walls tumble down (literal words: tumbling their walls)
Is where our miracle comes from
    Our miracle
    Our miracle
    Our miracle
    Oh, butterflies,
    Don’t keep holding on
    You need to grow
    Apart and return
To the road you must follow up ahead
    You’re already miracles
    Ripping apart chrysalises!
    You need to fly
    You need to find
    Your own future! (x3)
The song is really so much more impactful in Spanish, in my opinion. It’s really more about letting go of the past, learning, growing, and looking towards the future. I hope this helps anyone who doesn’t speak Spanish who wants to know the actual lyrics of what’s being said. 💖

Please react to the live version by Sebastián Yatra, it's even better (the one that is official on the Disney Music UA-cam channel).

That's not a very good translation of the Spanish lyrics, but ok...
The original Spanish lyrics are way more espressive and profound. :-)
But anyway... Yep, nice reaction, and I'd advise you to watch the full movie (and get a better translation of this song ;-) ), and then compare your reaction with what will be from watching the whole movie :-) .
This movie is wonderful and super deep... :-)

I'm annoyed that the notes spoiled what would of been a beautiful blind reaction.

Those where not the lyrics at all... Not even the concept. It was generaly similar, and with the same theme, but with a different meaning on almost all parts...
