WOW! I'm speechless. I would never have bothered to listen to this aria, since it is among my least favorite bass arias. It's not even my favorite bass aria in this opera, where there are two others that totally overshadow it - that is, unless it's sung like this! This is pure magic! I've always been a Tozzi fan. This is something else. It's inspired. Practically makes something out of nothing. BRAVISSIMO TOZZI!
What a great singer and beautifully sung how lucky you are to have these great recordings and thank you for posting them. My teacher the Australian tenor Ken Neate shared a flat with Giorgio Tozzi in Milano in the early 50s.
The MET today has not the number of fine HOUSE bass voices as during the 1950s & 60s. Siepi, Giaiotti, Tozzi. Hines, Flagello not to mention the European guests who made sporadic appearances there at this time. The two whom the MET should or could have engaged, Christoff & Treigle, were never on the roster. A pity indeed!
Incredible that this man and his tremendous talent have not received the credit they obviously so richly deserve. I feel like I have been robbed these many years... and to think that I only discovered Giorgio while searching for more offerings from Umberto Tozzi's brother, Franco (contemporary italian music) I couldn't be more pleased with this discovery!
His voice demands the listener’s attention. How beautiful.
Cantante lirico superlativo!!
Good voice, amazing singing and pretty musical expression.

What a wonderful singer! He is now gone, but fortunately we have his recordings. R.I.P.

My best teacher! Mr. Tozzi! Miss you so much!
