    Probably would have been cheaper to fully document the building, demolish it, then rebuild with the original bricks (new bricks used inside, where bulking needed) - the wood portions would need replacing anyway.

      It was going to be restored in a museum

      That's what they ended up doing.
      I think the building itself was structurally sound. It collapsed as it was being pulled.
      If the building wasn't structurally safe, they would have found another way to preserve it. I used to live in that area.

      With brick buildings yea, people used to buy castles and shit and have them torn down brick by brick and shipped around the world.

    I looked at the building 24 hours prior to the move. I've been in construction for over 40 years as a carpenter, superintendent and project manager and the moment I saw the building I knew it would not make it. I am sorry I couldn't be there when the building came down but the video that came out following was no surprise to anyone who knew anything about moving buildings.

      @@Amygondor The condition of that building was such that moving it was a fools errand. Short of de-constructing it and rebuilding it there was no way that building was going to move. No surprise really. It was butchered in order to run the overpass for route 9 years ago. Weak and loosely hanging together it didn't stand a chance. (This is my opinion and I am not an engineer so even if I'd brought it up who would take my word?) Also, Who was going to say anything to the contrary? The contractor, the engineers/architects, the politicians all had a vested interest in NOT saying or doing anything. It was just a job to them.

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack Рік тому

      Correct. The moron that called for that to be moved should be banned from ever holding any job. It should have been mapped out on blueprints and then deconstructed in segments, packed up, labeled, and then either put into storage, or reassembled onsite immediately. @@randgartman4216

    OOPS the engineers, if there were any, blew it. I cannot believe after seeing all of the shoring and disintegrating brick walls etc, that they tried to move such an unstable structure.

      A wooden building is one thing - it's flexible . The trying to move a building that's brick-and-mortar and 150 years old =no

    • @gamingant8905
      @gamingant8905 5 років тому

      its a bick house, its strengt is up to down, so a movment sideways is super precarious. a brick coloums could support some huge sturktures, but just a few knocks sideways could break it. Its not like roman mortar eather. that cement was very aged to.

      @@kennyholeater2494 iMAGINE BEING THIS STUPID. Learn about house movers and mega movers. A building like this is child's play. The movers did not brace the building properly, and the timbers had existing termite damage which made them weaker than they would have been if new. It had also been exposed to the elements for half a century

    • @gabrielled6294
      @gabrielled6294 4 роки тому +2

      Yes, it was being moved. They were moving it because that bridge which carries route 9 was being replaced. Since it's a very historic fire house, they were going to make it part of a Peekskill museum. They used the bricks and made a mini replica of the fire house.

    It's clear to me these people had no idea what they were doing. the cross bracing inside the building are to low to small and in the wrong places. there is no shoring or bolt cleats tieing the bricks together. after 40 years the molder starts to turn to dust. The engineer if there was one should get license revoked and sued.

    The support under the front end was too small. Someone cut cost at the wrong place.There should have been at least four axles if not more. As you see, just a little tilt and the center of mass is not supported by the axles anymore.

      They were moving it to make way for the bridge above to be replaced. This is a very historic fire house in the city of Peekskill. It responded to the worst fire in the history of this small city. They intended to have the entire fire house as part of a museum. Instead, they used the bricks from the collapse to make a small replica of the building.
      You can read more about the fire here:

      @@gabrielled6294 Yes I know the reason and I know the story.
      I lived in Peekskill for 30yrs and both my parents grew up there, and my grandfather worked at Fleishmans.
      I atill say it was a dumb idea, and I'm suprised an engineer didn't tell them that as well.
      That dept used to get flooded regularly. Which was on one reason they left that for a new one on higher ground.
