Remember them well, first one was a sl 70 for $275. New, then bought a sl 125 in silver for $675. New, at 15 father wouldn't let me get the 350, they came in orange, red and blue, loved that 4 stroke 2 cyl. Thumper, a little heavy for the dirt being a 2 cyl. When I got older went for the yamaha dt 250, single cylinder 2 stroke, you guys had one of those two. Thanks so much for bringing back good memories
Purchased the exact model and color in 1971 from the Honda dealership on Oahu. Rode that bike on and offroad all over the island for three years. Sold it to a gal who shipped it over to Maui. Had I viewed this post 2yrs ago, I would've snapped up this beauty in a heartbeat. These days, I'm rolling on my totally restored '78 Triumph Bonneville T-140V.
Back in 71 I was going back and forth from buying this bike and a yamaha R5 350. I ended up with the R5 but if I had money 💰 for both, this would be my 2nd bike. My first time out on the R5 I stupidity wicked it in 1st gear and did a Butt hurt Larry on it. I weighed like 135 back then so you can imagine how easily it wheeled. This bike looked so much better than a CB. And was more functional. Something you could do a little off road and highway. Very nice time capsule.
My 1st bike was a 1971 SL-350. I let a friend ride it and he wrecked it, but he was uninjured. That led me to a string of CB models, a 350, 500, and then a 750. I later owned Kawasaki's, a Bultaco, Norton, Moto-Guzzi, Harley-Davidson, and a Suzuki. I never got around to owning a BMW. But that SL-350 is still special to me.
Would be cool to see the points being replaced/adjusted on the lift, along with other bits and pcs of your guys doing miscellaneous tasks in the shop/hang out/man cave/icu.
I just bought that same helmet made by Daytona ...2 reasons 1. Peter Fonda 2 Ken Kaplan Sr -Truth! Edit - my detachable visor is black ( damnit I was close) I’m going to HD to get the gloves that resemble Srs . I usually never copy others , but I have my exceptions🇺🇸✌🏼👍
I really want one of these! I have 2 1971 SL175’s coming to me soon, one has a twisted frame so I’ll use one as a spares bike and build up the other. If anyone has any good spares going for and SL175 I’m in the market. They Should have arrived from Ohio at Southampton Docks yesterday so hopefully I’ll get them before Christmas.
I always wanted this as a kid but on/offs had gotten so advanced by that time I just never got one. Oh well, never have bought an ice cream cake for my birthday either.
Wow I have the same year little brother sl125 . It definitely doesn't look as good as this one. There bullet proof..Excellent work fellas..when the gold chain is applied you know it's legit and ready to rip!

I have a 1976 I believe that my father bought new. I rode it for years after I got my motorcycle license. His had gold metal flake tank and covers from the factory. It always kick started hard, any suggestions would be appreciated. It is very good condition except for a dent in the tank. He dropped it trying to get it running so my daughter could ride it. I would like to get it running so I could pass it down to her son. Thanks.
I got one sitting in a garage and the carbs are clean in a bucket..and a new battery ,tires , petcock, manuals, waiting for me to die so.my kids will scrap.it. along with everything else I own.. that how life works.

1971, a great time in Motorcycling.
Man, that is a beauty! That would be a fun little around the town bike.
Had five CL350's but could never score an SL. Still makes my heart race, still one of the coolest, toughest bikes Honda ever made.
I had a CB350 back then and I always wanted one of these SLs
I had a SL350 when I was stationed at NAS Cecil Field. Sure was fun to ride.
The first real adventure bike
Way way ahead of its time .
Love it
Nice sl Ken. Had a gold one I bought from a collection of Honda basket cases I bought but was able to salvage the sl350 and a 70'ct 70.

Rode with a guy who had one in the early 70's. He used to wheelie it for miles. Never did see him go over backwards. I wish I could say the same. 🤕
Used to ride wheelies 7 or 8 miles on mine , but got a little noisy after the first 1 or two,,,,,lol
