Many thanks Mark. Very interesting background. And it looks lovely.
You're welcome, Pete. I'm glad you enjoyed watching. All the best.
The replica Gibbs looks great Mark. Thank you for your review. Yaqi.
My pleasure! Good luck.
Glad to see this FINALLY happened.
Indeed.

Beautiful new razor mark. Have a great weekend. Yaqi
Thanks, you too! Good luck.
Nice showcase of the Heritage and the Gibs! I really like the looks of both 😎👌 I've been wanting to try the Yaqi razor you showed, so put me in for the giveaway! 😀👍
Have a good one!
Steve
Gladly Steve. Good luck mate. Cheers.
Pleasantly surprised to see the Heritage price. Beautiful!
All the best to you, Mark.
Yaqi
I thought I'd sneak in an extra video. Good luck in the draw.
Yaqi. Thank you for the Heritage Gibbs overview. Have not been able to try one yet.
Hi Eric, good luck.
Very nice video and explanation! Thank you for doing this for us, and like you, I will think of the starting 6 as Zero.
Thank you, Eric. I appreciate it. I would never use the razor on that low setting so, for me, I guess it doesn't really mater that much at all. All the best.
Interesting video Mark as always
Cheers Roy.
Thank you
You're welcome
That is a really nice looking razor. I admit, being in the states, i dont no a lot about gibson razors. I have heard of them though. I do like the looks of this. Looking forward to your review
There was also a Personna Micromatic, Andrew, It too is a vintage Gibbs razor but redesigned to take a standard blade. Very rare. And, there was a Palmera (Palm Tree) razor very similar for the Spanish market - rare as rocking horse poo!
Great vid and explanation!!
I have my Heritage Gibbs coming in! Excited about getting!!
As is the Yaqi FTC is my favourite adjustable... I wonder if the Heritage Gibbs will de-throne it
Have a great weekend and Stay Safe!
🤙

Thank you, Mr. Solo. I will look forward to watching your review when the Heritage Gibbs arrives in your den. Perhaps the Yaqi TFC vs. the 'H Gibbs' is in order. Cheers. Take good care.
@@FriendshipShaving Thanks, Mate!
A comparison will have to be made...
But first a review...
The HCS Gibbs arrived late yesterday. Unboxing should be up at Noon, tomorrow...
Hi Mark, Late catching your review of the Heritage Gibbs, I was having a look around the web and your introduction of it was light years better than anyone else's, Thank you for your imparting your incredible knowledge around what will hopefully be my next razor
Hi. Thank you very much, I'm very glad it was useful. The Gibbs has been renowned for being a good shave, for many years amongst enthusiasts and it's nice to see an almost perfect version that takes any blade. Good luck getting yours. All the very best.
Yaqi. Thanks for the informative review.
Good luck, John. Thanks.
Hi Mark, that is really a great looking Gibbs replica. Very nice presentation and explanation of the differences to the original. Have a nice weekend 😉
Thank you, my friend. It is cold and wet, and it is at times like these I wonder why, in my younger days, I didn't move to southern Spain! All the best Sven. Cheers.👍
Hey Mark, another good one. I always enjoy your channel. Yaqui
Awesome, thank you! 😄 That's really great - thanks very much.
Lovely razor. Congratulations, Mark! Appreciate all the technical knowledge you impart with each video.
Thank you, Adrian. My pleasure.
Hello Mark, just started shaving with a de razor after a break of 50 years, used a gillette back then but can't remember which one, but i do remember my father using the Gibbs, so will look into getting this new replica to remind me of him, thank you for your reviews, helped me a lot, best wishes, JERRY
Hey Jerry. What a lovely idea, to buy a razor that reminds you of your dad. I love that so much. Mine went over to electric shavers and never came back! All the best.
@@FriendshipShaving Thank you mark for your reply, I did the same when I joined the post office, in them days you had to shave every day so an electric shaver was quicker at 4 am😁 wish I knew what happened to dad's?? Best wishes to you and your family, jerry
Nice review of an interesting razor, Mark. Looking forward to how it compares to the original. Love to try the Yaqi interpretation. Have yourself a great weekend.
Cheers!
Thank you, Marco. Good luck in the draw.
Hi Mark- Great razor preview; thank you! Wonderful-looking razor and I’m looking-forward to you taking it through it’s first shave. Off now to watch the regular Friday video. Best regards, as always!
Hi Mike, I am looking forward to that video. Take care, my friend.
Dear Mark, nice video! Yaqi 🎉
Thank you! 😃 Good luck.
Looking forward to see how this performs. Also had the Yaqi on my wishlist, but never pulled the trigger on it.
I'll put you in the draw then. Good luck.
Yaqi 🙂 Thank You Mark!
My pleasure!
Hi Mark, Gibbs is one of those very collectible razors that also shaves great. I never was fond of the plastic but guys like Claudio on IG make brass replacements. Never bothered with the number alignment, I just eyeball the gap and shave. I also find the spring too lightweight that causes the guard to “flex”. love how you can now use any DE blade without modifications. thank you for sharing the information. Yaqi is another option albeit with the same challenges IMO, regards dapper shaves
Hello there. I quite like the black myself but a brass replacement handle, is very interesting. I love that you eyeball the gap and shave. That is great. All the best.
Thanks for the review Mark. And thanks for the giveaway. Yaqi
You're welcome Paulo. Good luck.
Lovely looking razor Mark i heard that about Yaqi stealing Heritage Collections ideas if that's true i'll never buy anything Yaqi again.I think i'm going to have to invest in one of those when available it looks superb.Take care mate have a lovely day.
I doubt we will ever properly know the truth, it is interesting though. I'm just glad the this razor was able to be brought to market, through all it's trials and tribulations.
Despite your misgivings about it, l would be very happy to give the Yaqi a new home.
It's a nice razor, but the Heritage Gibbs is all new and shiny!😅 Good luck in the draw, Robert. Cheers.
Hello Mark! Great comparison between the two. Hope it will perfom good because the price is very decent.
Yaqi may double cross him, is not something new from a Chinese company, they do that in some cases.
And yes, very strange how the scale starts from 7/6 for the smallest blade gap 😁
Have a great weekend. Cheers!
Thank you, Dragos. I'm certain it will be a good shave. Yes, it seems quite common for them to copy good designs and then to flood the market with them.
Very nice mark I like the look of the replica gibbs razor
Throw my name in the hat for Yaqi 👍
Certainly. Good luck Raymond.
Thank you Mark. Have you noticed the little bit of a play in the reproduction baseplate? Because the notches are the same size and they are about .5 to 1mm different in width from the slot they fit in the plate twists a bit. Watch out because the blade will sit a little off and may need to be corrected prior to shaving. Yaqi
I have just noticed it today when I had my first shave, so thanks for bringing that up; I'll mention it in Fridays video. I think they could tighten that up a bit, in future builds. I had a very close shave on a low setting!
@@FriendshipShaving if you take care to ensure alignment it performs a great shave. I got the short anodized black handle. Thanks for the confirmation and love your shaves. Do you know much about the Gibbs 16 plus minus
Thanks very much, Mark. Your comparison was so informative that I went right to Neil's site and ordered one. I've been tracking his progress for years, but this walk-through made it clear for the first time just how close he's gotten to the original. I'd have a Gibbs by now were it not for the blade issue, so I'm looking forward to trying this one out. Thanks, too, for the idea of seeing the "6" as an "O." With my eyesight, that will not amount to a great challenge.
Regarding the lack of brass bushing inside the handle, I plan to apply silicone lube (O-ring grade) to the threads every so often to reduce wear and tear. I do this with my zamac and anodized aluminum razors, and I see no reason not to here, though I'm always open to words of caution. Again, thanks, and enjoy the trial shave. Cheers.
Hi Warren, I'm glad that this video was well received - thank you for this feedback, it's good to know when I do well. I have yet to shave with it, I am saving that for a video but I have very high hopes. I got a bit hung up on the number issue! To say the least.
Bushing - that's the word! What is silicon lube? That sounds very interesting. I'll look into it. Cheers
Just a follow-up and a possible tip for your upcoming shave:
Subie Shaves loves his Heritage Gibbs. That's an understatement. But in a tweaking video (see the link below) he pointed out that the Heritage spring is not as stiff as the one in the Rex Ambassador and that it affects performance. You can see the difference in the springs and in the strength of the blade clamp plainly. What he did is use an extra Rex Ambassador spring he had lying around and put it into his Heritage Gibbs. He says it improved performance considerably. It sounds like a big deal.
Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/DZHoRwxwGpQ/v-deo.html
Subie told me he let Neil know about the matter and that Neil is looking into it. I assume the original Gibbs had a stronger spring as well, but you can speak to that better than I can. If so, you might be able to improve performance with it whether or not you have a Rex spring to use.
PS: I wrote to Neil about the subject and he kindly wrote back. He pointed out that the spring in the Heritage replica is the same kind as in the original Gibbs except for its being stainless, and that was per Neil's request. I would say he justifiably sees the spring switch as a step beyond the historical razor. However, something tells me he sees the point of the upgrade. He said a brass version is planned, possibly next year, and it will come with a better spring. Now you have the whole story.
Yaqui lovely Razor
Good luck, Kenneth
Nice looking Yaqi razor, Mark. Have you tried Statum blades? Be interested in your opinion of them.
I haven't, Jim. I have not heard of them before, I don't think. I will look into it, and search through my blades, just in case I have one somewhere. Thanks. All the best.
It looks like Niel managed to do a really good job of that razor in the end, despite all of the hurdles he ended up having to overcome.
Yaqi
He did a good job mate. Cheers.
It's great to be able to now get a close Gibbs Replica (rather than inspired by) at a reasonable price, well done "Heritage Collection Shaving". I consider the Yaqi TFC as more of an inspired Gibbs version as they made modifications to the Gibbs design (the aggression level is not affected by how the cap is inserted, the safety bar is scalloped, not designed to be completely "stripped down" and the bottom screw does not fall out) and Yaqi don't seem to have the best QC on their razors their brushes are better. Looking forward to your shave video.👍🤠
There brushes, to my mind were a revelation. The knots they use, are superb but, as you rightly say their razors are a little bit lacking. The Gibbs is a lovely shave so I have high hopes for the Heritage version. Fingers crossed. All the best, Lawrie.
I have a french Gibbs No 15 bought it on ebay a year ago, i must say it was quire expensive.
I thought mine was expensive a few years ago and then the prices kept going up, George. The prices generally on eBay are getting silly.
Yaqi da👍👍😉
Yaqi da. Clever! Good luck
Yaqi, eh! 😊
Good luck my friend.
How would you compare this to the Pearl Flexi or the Yaqi which basically ripped off the design from Heritage, or of course the Rex Ambassador.
Now, that is a question! Firstly it is a direct copy and very well done too. I find the original Gibbs a little aggressive, as razors back then tended to be but it is a smooth shave. I would say that the Flexi is perhaps a slightly less aggressive shave and certaily very smooth. I like the Flexi a lot, but it's too heavy for me. The Ambassador, last time I used one was way too aggressive, and left me with bad razor burn even on setting one!
Nice razor Mark! Yaqi
Entered.
Thanks for sharing. It looks like a great replica of the Gibbs adjustable. And the $57.50 price was a pleasant surprise. It's hard to believe that GSC charges twice as much for the replica Fatboy. As much as I like that Heritage Gibbs replica, I will resist the urge to order one 😉 But I'm happy you like yours!
Totally agree. The price of the GSC is a lot. I wonder if there finishing has improved. The Heritage Gibbs is very nice and shaves like the original.
Yaqi Great info.
Glad you think so, thanks John. Good luck
And i forgot to say, YAQI ..🙂
Good luck.
