    This one is a big aim mechanics discussion video while we watch XANTARES farm on CT overpass with rifles. I've talked the position to death so it was fun to just watch but he didn't do anything groundbreaking so we changed course. Just wanted to watch back this insane half and talk about how talented he is mechanically.

    i think an important thing to note in xantares gameplay is peeking with intend. u can sometimes see him take a sec before peeking where he expects a 1v1 to come up and swings really fast and aggressive, like in 9:52. imo one of the most important skills to learn from him

    Every time anyone talks about LAN specific 'issues' or 'technicalities' I can't help but think of the one n0thing anecdote where he'd have his teammates flash parts of the map and then look at the other team's faces, if they were lit white from their screens then he knew roughly where they were. Really clever imo.
    And this bit about teammates watching a side of your screen, we used to do this back at cybercafes whenever we'd play some small 1.6 torunaments. Just small things that could win you a game, like shouting a little too much anytime you got a round to help momentum shift your way.

    As said by you in the video, I agree to the fact that ScreaM and Xantares both are top level aimers. But as said by shox - ScreaM is a natural pure raw aimer. His first bullet accuracy is better than anybody else. That's what places him in the league of pure aimers. Xantares is more of a spray guy. Both have sick aim, but while ScreaM would rely on his first bullet accuracy, Xantares would rely on his spray connecting to the head. That would place Xantares in the league of sprayers.

    On the topic of watching crosshair vs. enemy think of it like this: When you're goin to click on an icon on your desktop, do you watch your cursor travel all the way to the icon or do you watch the icon where you want your cursor to go? Of course you watch the icon and it's the same thing in game. Look at where you want to shoot the enemy.
    It makes a ton of difference if you go into DM or Aimbotz and really focus on watching what you want to hit.

    • @TheSantifive
      @TheSantifive Рік тому +4

      Honestly, I'd have to agree with launders here, if you're asking yourself that question you probably should just play more. I personally have found my mechanics at it's best when I've been able to just play the game a lot, because then I don't even have to think about it
      Kinda like driving, when starting out people freak out about their hand positioning on the wheel, how hard to hit the breaks, how much should they steer (or when to shift if they're driving manual), but after driving a lot you don't think about it: You break on signs/red lights and you steer whenever you have to take a turn. Also you get used to the car's quirks.
      For some people it might come naturally after playing a lot, some might need to consciously reinforce it, go through spray patterns, specific crosshair placement and counter strafing excercises to actually cement it in their mind. But it still boils down to in game time, even if it's playing practice maps.

    • @dasauto1555
      @dasauto1555 Рік тому

      I think tunnel vision can be a very good thing, look at the goat res, super common to 'limit your fov' in a way. I find I dont stare at my crosshair, but my primary focus of my eyes is the center of my screen.... so my crosshair, but that doesnt mean I cant see everything else on the screen to flick to, thats what your peripheral vision is for. If your crosshair placement is clean this concept works very well.

    • @JoeyFucktwice
      @JoeyFucktwice Рік тому

      If I focus in training, it comes naturally in games. So for me, I need to think about these things and remind myself during games too.
      I mean it's possible you could've learned bad habits and still got really good at the game, if you want to change those habits you have to be mindful while playing.

If you're wondering why he switched to 2.7 at 400dpi is because in a regular shaped Large gaming mousepad (example, QCK Heavy) on 2.7 in-game sens at 400dpi if you swipe from one side to the other is a full 360 degrees. Xantares plays with 2 ingame sens at 400dpi w/ mouse accel on at default value which is 1.05, when you put your mouse and swipe it from side to side (do it fast so the mouse accel kicks in) it will give you a 360 degrees spin which is basically why he switched to 2.7 without mouse accel for that specific tournamet back when I think he was playing for B.I.G. There's a post on Twitter or some screenshot where Xanatares if I remember correctly mentions using 2.7 sens for that specific tournament and the reason why. Xantares is the sht haha I'm also a fan of him, just google Xantares 2.7 sens 400 dpi and i think theres a post about it. Hope that helped my guy.

    I actually think that you should train yourself in what you should be thinking when in an aim battle, in deathmatch and in aim maps at least not in actual competitive match. I used to just ignore it, and let it be instinct but I massively improved my aim when I tackled it head on. I train myself consciously to react when I see an enemy to stop, aim, and confirm that the crosshair is on the enemy then fire. then added a couple of more stuff like decide if tap spray or burst after I got used to it. It's going to suck a$$ at the beginning, specially if you played years of cs and just started this training, you will feel like a newbie player. But you need to remember to slow down and master the fundamentals first, so you can get better. In a couple of months, it will be instinct. You need to grind and repeat things in order for it to be comfortable and instinctive. just be mindful that the things that your are repeating/practicing are correct techniques.

    Mouse accel on. m_customaccel 3. (was the default mouse accel for Half-Life Deathmatch where xantares started his fps journey) A very slow ramp mouse accel not effected by frames per second like csgos default mouse accel m_customaccel 1. Growing up in the early 2000's alot of gamers advocated for mouse accel because of the similar sensation of a ball mouse. Switching to a laser mice was actually difficult for many gamers at the time. Kinda of a inverted sensitivity argument I suppose(Up is up).
    In 2016 when i started playing CSGO xantares was the highest rated player so i downloaded his config. I had no knowledge of mouse accel at the time and didn't even know I had it turned on. The reason for the close chopping up the angels aim style is because long aim strafes is very hard on mouse accel. Its unpredictable at first so you take the only aim fights that are comfortable, the ones where you barely have to move your mouse. Over time however (a very long time for me) you get better at being able to flick at longer angels, but the core close nit angels are always your go to from habit. Mouse accel is not optimal, and much like fast sensitivity (woxic) and slow sensitivity (Niko) pre aim is literally everything. These players got so much better than everyone else at it because they literally had too.
    Im no XANTARES, im just a pair of glasses.
    idk why I typed that all out or why i know so much but if by some chance.. launder if you did read this lmk. I put my heart into that.

  • @CherryZ
    @CherryZ Рік тому +1

    First off, I love Launders, but I would just like to point out that what he said around ~7:00 is wrong about what do players look at when they aim. Perhaps players don't consciously think about it, but they ALWAYS look at the player when aiming. That's the right way to do it. Think of it like hitting a baseball or kicking a soccer ball. You "keep your eye on the ball", not the bat... In this case the ball is just the player and the bat the crosshair. There's a reason every sports coach ingrains this into their players heads. So what do players look at when they aim? They look at the other player and you should too. If you think about it, what sense would it make to not look at the player when trying to hit the player? I'm sure most players just aim subconsciously, but they ARE looking at the player all the way through. The reason they don't consciously look is because after doing it so much it becomes second nature. So yea, just wanted to point out a small thing he got wrong, but other than that it was a great video!

    Kinda looks like he does the smooth chopping when he expects someone can be on an off angle (13:45), and the more Niko-esque chopping when clearing common angles (18:35). Doubt he does this consciously though

    it doesnt make sense to look at the crosshair while shooting. you are looking at the other player to see if he strafes left, right, ducks so you can adjust. you do see the crosshair even though you dont focus on it

    Lau what you're really talking about here is working memory, vs intuition, or learnt behavior. In order to succeed in CS or any mechanical, skilled endeavour. You need to sufficiently learn and internalize certain processes such that you can free up working memory for other things. At a pro level, crosshair placement, peeking, counter strafing, spray control, even gamesense at a high level - should all be so rigorously internalized (physically occupying neurons in the brain by neuroplasticity), that all working memory is spent on communication, teamplay, tactics and timings.
    It is once you spend time on eye placement, crosshair placement, peeking proficiency, counter strafing etc. ON TOP OF, russians reeeing into your ears and the strat your terrible MM IGL called at the start of your fourth lost round in a row that you already forgot - that things crumble. And this is exactly why your aim sucks so bad in game, as opposed to playing duels and DM where your sole focus is the aiming and the movement.
    And this is what separates good and bad players. The literal neurons in your brain who copes well with the mechanics of the game. So how should we learn the mechanics if the surrounding gameplay hinders this very ability? Well, the only real good option is to first establish the skill in a controlled environment, DM, duel, botserver etc. And then literally ignore everything else in game and only do that one thing. That means, sacrificing your entire team, the teamplay, and your ELO, to get better at spraying. AND ONLY, after doing that, and coping with being inadequate at every other facet of gameplay, will you have learnt and adapted to that skill IN GAME. And you can move on to the rest. This is the most efficient way to improve in CS. It requires a good chunk of sacrificial games beforehand, to unlock your true potential and relegate the menial tasks of CS to instinct, and free up your working memory.

    @lau i know this video is 9 months old but i think the nomenclature you use in this video should change. In real steel firearms and military strategy, they call "smoothing" pieing a corner, as you say this is like smoothing the angle, the person, cuts the corner up into individual pieces of a pie. whereas i think pre-aming is perfectly servicable as a term, like xantares' peek on the guy in t-spawn stairs. so i think pie-ing a corner would help in this sense and would ultimately make more sense to begin with. Thanks for the vide lau they are sick!

    I feel like you're kind of gate keeping the question for whether to look at the crosshair or the player. I think a better answer would be, you want to look at the enemy. But you want to keep your crosshair at a level close to where you would see the enemy. Nobody looks at their crosshair when tracking or spraying. They are looking at the enemy. Hope this helps some people.
    I think its quite intuitive and you shouldn't always be thinking about it, as you said. However, I believe there is a clear answer for that particular question. No need to dance around a basic hand eye coordination question.

    So I was playing FFA DM just before BIG vs fnatic started and everything was going well, a couple of known names here and there, nothing unusual.

    Until the man himself joined. XANTARES.
    I spawn next to him. I miss one shot. ONE FUCKING SHOT. Headshot. I'm dead.
    I get crouch-peeked. Surely I'll get that noob. Nevermind, it's XANTARES. Edshot.

    A lot of other pros and FPL players usually play here and they are all insane.
    But XANTARES? Fuck that guy. With his stupid mouse acceleration.
    It's just not fun.
    That guy is so bold, he even wrote his name in all caps.

    Rather going outside and catching some Corona than playing against XANTARES again.
