I tried skating outside and there were so many cracks and I was so afraid off falling because of a recent bad fall but I skated for 5 minutes and felt proud doing such a small amount
I'm going through the exact same thing now. I tried it once thinking it would be somewhat easy, but I could barely move, tripping everywhere and got so nervous my legs started shaking. It's funny because the worst that could happen is to fall on the ground which wouldn't be a first, but I got really nervous because I couldn't skate in a fluid way at all on the streets here. Now everytime I have to try I'm nervous, but I keep challenging myself to go a little further everyday.
The fear is real, especially for ppl who can’t skate and want to learn. Just bought a pair of roller skates and looking forward to this new journey. Going back to your video now
I’m 41 and I sat on my background yard ramp tonight in tears because I felt old and silly and I am scared of the coping. Slide blocks are slippery and I keep falling. This video is perfect timing for me. Thank you so much.
A backyard ramp?! wow! I am 42 years old, I feel you. I fell hard in the street the other day. It seems to hurt more and longer now that I am older. Good luck conquering all these things.
Loved this video! About a month ago I went to the skate park for the first time after weeks of trying to talk myself into it. I thought it would be dead, but there were so many guys on skateboards. I knew I’d be disappointed in myself if I left, so I stayed. It helped to tell a couple of the guys it was my first day; they all gave me space on the ramp to just practice pumping. In hindsight I think it’s good that my first time was so busy. It made me come to terms with the fact that people are just gonna see you fall sometimes. And everyone else was falling too. The skate park is my favorite place to go now 🛼🛼
I'm just a beginner and haven't reached anything like the levels of skill shown in this video. I am past retirement age and my fear was people thinking, "Silly old fool" but people in my neighbourhood have been uniformly encouraging. The fear of failure, well, I was only scared that I might have wasted the £200 spent on boots and protective gear. The physical fear was big - I was terrified even to cross to the other side of the path outside my house at the beginning. I fell over backwards a lot at the start. Not nice. Thanks to the protective gear I did not hurt myself badly, but I DID hurt myself and still have the (low level) pain to prove it. But the joy of being able to do something that I couldn't do two weeks ago is fantastic. Roller skating is an exciting journey. The video was excellent. The level of honestly was touching and so appreciated. Thank you.
My fear comes from social anxiety. I am new to skating and actually have yet to get on them due to work, weather and just coming up with excuses not to go. Mostly it's because I have no one to go with and get really anxious going by myself, going a long with the fear of embarrassment because I have no support system like I would have if I had a friend there.
this is literally me! i think if we can just get ourselves to even do five minutes of practice at a time, whether it's in your home if you have room, in the garage, down the street, or in an empty parking lot somewhere, even that little bit at a time counts for something :) fear isn't ever easy to face but we can always take things one step at a time, trying to overcome our own excuses. let's try and get out there soon!!
@@flyssie thanks for the kind words! I broke out of my comfort zone and went to the roller rink tonight by myself. I'm very beginner at skating, haven't done it since I was a kid and want to get back into. Finally forced myself to go and glad I did cause I had a blast.
You’re not alone. I really want company to learn how to skate but no one seems interested. I really want to learn badly to the point I said screw it I want to do this, sooo I am going to take a leap....You can do this.....I can do this !!!!! Waiting for my skates to ship.
I'm 41 too. I skate well, but my mind will have me paralyzed just because of anxiety. Alyssa Rance is right: it's basically the baby steps that eventually helps us to climb out of our fear. Skate ANYWHERE and it is ENOUGH to say you have accomplished something!! I use my love of music and fear of being uninhibited to jamskate the hell out of my kitchen, dining room, bedroom, garage and driveway of my home! The music in my ear helps me to be relaxed and adventurous in front of people I" believe" are watching and laughing at me. Lol. Try your favorite music, no matter what kind of music you like. Skate dance to it! I need a friend, too!
I'm with you, too. I'm 49 and I bought a pair of skates after not having any for a really long time!!! When I was like pre-teen, I practically lived in my skates and I want to get back into it, but I am scared of looking like "the old person trying to be cool"! 😣😣
Thank you! My fear is this: I'm 49 and I bought a pair of skates after not having any for a really long time!!! When I was like pre-teen, I practically lived in my skates and I want to get back into it because it was so much fun, but I am scared of looking like "the old person trying to be cool" and of wiping out and hurting myself! 😣😣
Don't be! You would be surprised to hear how many people over the age of 40 are getting back into skating right now or starting out for the very first time. You so got this, don't give it up or pay attention to what others may think. But personally, I think you would gain cool points for getting out there and skating :)
@@SKATEFANTOM Thank you! I can't wait for the weather to get better so I can do more outside - cold & rainy here the next few days still . Thanks for replying to me! 💖🥰
Wow! This hit me. I have been practicing inside due to my fear. Progressed to backward and transitions... Yesterday I decided to try outside skating the first time at my moms and was trying to adjust to an incline fell within two minutes and the neighbors kids laughed as my mom told me I was too old to learn. Afterwards I just tensed up and gave up. 😑
don’t let them stop you, I saw people who are almost grandmas on skates, you can do it! it requires sometimes a lot of dedication and courage, but when you’ll become better you’ll be so proud of yourself, make piece with this uncomfortable start, beginnings are usually not easy🌸⭐️🌙
nooo 😥 I am so sorry to hear about your experience. Please know you are not alone, not even a little bit. So many people are exactly where you are right now trying to learn. When I started I had no skating background or experience. My ex at the time told me he did not understand why I was trying. Keep trying and you will get better! And your mom will be proven WAY wrong.
You are never too old. Don't let others fears limit you. You do you... on skates... or not. Those that laugh don't have the courage that you do! Roll on!!!
I love this video-thanks for making it! I have PTSD, and have recently started skating. As someone whos fear usually gets to dictate almost every aspect of my life, I knew it would be a challenge-and sure enough the first time I laced up I could literally feel my heart in my throat and ears popping with fear.but what ive learned is that every time I give in and avoid/dont push back against these fears I feed the fear monster and Skating is my first step on the journey to no longer hiding/avoiding the fear/letting the fear monster control my life. It might take me x5 longer than everyone else to skate, Ill be wearing every safety gear on the market-but its such a personal victory to feel afraid, and do something anyway! I feel like Im taking my life back, thanks to Moxi girls and your inspirational skating!
It is very nice to hear that things that sometimes depress you, such as fear, failure, not achieving the same results as others, is something normal. That we should take this with distance and give ourselves a chance another time and enjoy these little progress and not compare ourselves to others. You have a very cool way of communicating your thoughts, it's so natural. Your video is very helpful.
Awh thank you so much! I appreciate that because this video was challenging for me to film. it's tough hearing yourself talk so much lol but happy it may have helped others
I got my moxi skates about 2 months ago, but shortly after I injured my toe. It’s healed up, however, I had only used my skates once after being excited about them for months. That first outing was so scary that I didn’t want to do it and had been using my toe as an excuse to myself. However, I saw this video yesterday and today I made myself push through the fear and go skate. All I did was practice falling because the fear of injury is really what gets me, but just being out on my skates proved that I wasn’t about to die and that everything would be fine.
I’m learning how to turn around on my skates and I’ve been skating on and off for 4 years. I was always embarrassed because I didn’t know how to do it. Today, for the first time, I did it! And I was able to teach my friend who came with me too! ❤️❤️
I broke my leg in 3 places at the skate park almost 4 years ago. I still can't do all the things I used to at a more aggressive level because of mobility and pain issues. I'm 42 now and it really wrecked our family fun when that happened. I am skating again, but very easy rink and trails. At least it's something. I have massive anxiety every time I lace my skates up. I will not likely skate a bowl ever again. I still love to skate though. I fall alot more, but I have my safety gear now and that helps cushion the blows. The anxiety welled up can also cause more accidents IMO. It is hard to push past that fear. I hope you can find the confidence in yourself to land your trick and finish that movie the way you envisioned it. It's been a pleasure to watch you over the past several years online. I am cheering for you, whether you do the ender trick or not.
About nailing a trick which I was terrified... The nearest skatepark from my house doesn't have mini ramps or small ramps. The ramps there are about my height (1.65 m), so every trick I try on ramps is even more terrifyng. I was trying to land a 5050 for daaayss, and then, I landed but didn't know how to drop in again, so I just rolled back to the deck where were I felt safe. The second time I landed, I was thrilled, but then I body was "falling" back into the transition. I don't know if it was the gravity or my body just saying to myself: "C'mon, I'm ready and you are postponing it because of this fear". And I HAD to drop, or I would crush myself on the floor. I did it. And I was so proud of myself. This feeling is unique. I skate only for about a year and I'm thristy for learning more. Thank you guys for all the videos, support, inspiration and tips. Love from Brazil 💛💚 PS.: Brazil has a *HUGE* LACK on brands of rollerskates, and things related. We don't have good and durable skates here. Everything comes from China, and the only national good brand stands for figure skating. We have to import everything (the good stuff!) and it is so complicated. Please thing about your brazilian friends in the future.
The more I watch Karli's videos the more impressed I am. She's very good at communication, at relaying information. That's a skill not everyone has. Kudos
I sprained my knee and ankle months ago about 2 weeks into my skating journey. I’ve been scared to skate ever since. But those two weeks were the most fun and free I have felt in such a long time. I think I’m going to try again when the skating rinks open back up.
You might try doing 20 repetition breathing squats to improve your balance and leg strength. Squats really strengthen your balance a lot. Start out with a light weight and try to add 5 lbs a week, or whenever you're able. Squat twice a week and make sure to have a protein shake afterwards.
i feel this. i sprained my elbow 2 weeks into learning how to skate and im petrified im going to get injured again and itll potentially be worse than my first injury. i want to go to the rinks so bad but my fears holding me back :/
When I started skating I broke and dislocated my thumb and had to have a surgery on it. My dad asked me if I was going to stop skating, I said “no of course not”. I injured it because I stood up to take my skates off and I have learnt my lesson and I sit down to take them off. Figure out why you were injured and learn from it and improve. Also wearing all protective gear can help a lot because even if you do fall you are less likely to get hurt.
This video was so, so helpful. Also, what a calming and reassuring presence you have! With that cozy environment and the blanket, this feels like a free therapy session and I am ~into it~
A few thoughts. Such a very groovy afghan covering for you . " It's all perfect because it excists" You are perfect! Such a goddess of the skate! The wisdom you share in this video is brilliant! Thank you! Iam 61 yo male. I have been skating since I was 6 yo. I am scared of hurting myself. I have injured myself a bunch over the years of outdoor skating. Back in the 80s I had to learn the hard way outdoors. I fractured my neck a year ago and I have gotten insperation to get back on my skates from you. Blessings.
My first time on roller skates i tripped and fell backwards hard, it took a hard hit on my right arm and it was super painful. It took me a whole year to get back to skating. Then i decided frick it im gonna get a pair of bunnies and not quit until i can do a flip at the skate park, in the air, with an ice cream, in the air.
I'm about to try skating again after decades of not. I'm almost 56 and have an overwhelming desire to try again. But I'm pretty scared! Even though it does scare me, I know it's something I have to do. Something inside of me is pulling me to it and it's practically all I've been thinking about. I've ordered some skates and while waiting for them, I have been binge watching beginner skating videos to try and start preparing for it. I hope by the time my skates arrive, I've built up a little confidence so I can see how things go. 🥰I hope your ender went well! 💖
I got a lot out of this video. Last couple times at the skate park I have been worried about injury and not pushed myself. Will work on visualizing things working! Thank you!
ILY Roller Goolie! You are such an inspiration and this is just the pep talk I needed. I started skating last June and ended up breaking a finger from hitting a crack in a sidewalk my first month. Not the worst thing to break, but that experience so early on had a tremendous effect on my confidence. I've pretty much been scared of speed and falling since then but I'm getting better each time I lace up. My "best feeling" story to share is when I bombed my first hill a few weeks ago. Took me a handful of bails to work up to it but I felt like I had been blessed by the She Gods when I finally did it🥰🛼 Thank you, the rest of the Moxi team, and the skate community for putting me on 8 wheels and changing my life forever💗
always reassuring to hear that super skilled skaters still deal with fear. i’m definitely an anxious skater and compare myself a lot, but this week i finally made myself try a ramp at the skate park and it was fine! and fun!! so today i did a lot more ramps and tried carving a tiny bit really low on a ramp and it was also fine! and fun! i’m not able to pump up to the coping yet, but i did try toe stop stalls this week which are way less scary than i had built up in my head. so here’s to telling fear to shut up and doing it anyway!! :) the feeling of doing it after having so much fear really is the best, and makes it all worth it.
I needed this!!!! I just recently got my pair of skates put them on rolled around and then fell.... and now I'm pretty scared of falling... hopefully this video helps!!!
Literally had a hard fall on my tailbone yesterday and I’m currently in bed with an ice pack 🙈 I’m gonna be so nervous when I’m able to skate again, thanks for this video 🙏🏼
Amy Loonam, I’m with you. I took two terrible tailbone falls on the same day last Tuesday on my first ever trail skate. I was terrified of the slopes, cracks, twigs, geese, mulch, and people I had to navigate. After the second fall, I knew something was seriously wrong. Uggh A week later and I’m nursing a herniated lumbar disc and can hardly walk. I want to skate so badly. I pray I can get up the nerve to tackle another trail after I heal. I pray you heal quickly and are able to also overcome the fear of falling again. It’s real.
@@memorizeitwithmusic612 awhhh you poor thing ☹️ the pain sucks so bad! It healed after a couple of months but it's still not 100% right but after maybe 3 months I got back up on my skates and enjoyed it so much, but I also wore butt pads at First to be safe 😂 I had a hip surgery (not related) so I'm off the skates for another while now! Can't wait to get back! I hope you heal quickly too but just take care of your body and you'll be back on the horse in no time ❤️
Well, i just got my skates, and i have a hudge fear of downhills. I always fall when i decide to go and skate them. Today tho was diffrent. I was skating with my best friend and i tried to go downhill again even though i was terrified. My best friend was cheering me up and helping me to get over my fear. I went to skate the downhill and this was the first time i didn't fall or loose balance. I was so happy and i still am. I will continue trying to get over my fears but today i had a lil breakthrough :) And sorry for my bad english if anyone reads this, greetings from Finland! And remember, just keep trying!
My victory was the time I practiced t-stops in a parking lot, and I was nervous about the people there making fun of me. But they didn't, and I got better at my stopping, and I didn't fall, and I got slightly more used to asphalt. After that I put skating on hold for about a year, but it's still a victory for me. And choosing to get back into it now is also a victory. Wish I'd been less alone with the fear when I started before but this really helps. It's the great challenge of life. Doing something that's worth doing but is hard and scary and requires us to just jump in. Didn't realize skating was this philosophical.
Just the other day, I finally bombed some small hills and it was scary but so awesome because I was super scared before I did it. Thanks for this awesome video. It’s helping me so much!
To any other skaters, You got this. It’s normal to be anxious about new things. I’ve been skating for over a year and still feel fear around half jumps and bunny hops. Everyone progresses at different paces and everyone at one point has been scared about something in skating. Every skater I’ve met has been super encouraging when noticing stuff I’m scared of trying/doing
I used to love skating when I was little, even though I never got any good at it lol. I miss it so so much but my biggest fear is definitely getting hurt, especially now that I have fibromyalgia, things take me out a lot harder than others. I also have so much anxiety about not being able to keep up with others and slowing my friends down and dampening their fun if we were to skate together. This video really helped ease some of that, and though the feelings are still there, it’s nice to know that even people as experienced as yourself that I admire so much also have very real and very similar fears as I do! This was such a comforting and encouraging video. Thank you so so much for that. I may just take the plunge and buy myself a pair of skates and start learning again after all 🥰 (Also, for any other fellow Spoonies who may stumble upon this video/comment, I’d love to hear your specific experiences skating with chronic pain and/or disabilities! If you don’t mind talking to me about it of course.💕)
This video is gold, not just for skating but also solid life advice! I stopped inline skating as a child when I got injured so I have a lot of respect for safety and caution when I quad skate now. For me, breaking goals down in the the smallest increments until it feels trivial and wearing padding has really helped that fear. I've been skating for three days but a feat over fear I conquered was jumping over cracks. Flicking my toes to get more air (thank you Moxy tutorials lol) was a hurdle but I did it and got a decent amount of height!
I'm a beginner and in the VERY early stages of getting used to skating outside, but I really wanted to go outside the other day so I pushed myself to do it and, after a bit of a shaky start, I was skating until the sun went down and I had the BEST time. Before I went I was worried that I'd fall and people would be looking at me but honestly, once I got outside I just got so lost in the feeling of skating and I didn't want to stop! It's such a freeing feeling. And I know it'll feel even better once I can skate more confidently! My moxi gummy wheels are helping so much though, they're amazing so THANK YOU!
I'm 62 and just starting skating. I'm not embarrassed to fall, I'm scared of breaking something and not being able to work. I love my job and don't want to be out of commission or break a hip...lol. Any comments relative to this video?
Thank you so much for this. Today I finally tried rolling off curbs after months of being too scared. This video helped me so much. Thank you. I built so much confidence and had so much fun today. Can’t wait to skate again tomorrow.
I was so so scared of dropping in. I’ve been skating about 4 months and every time I went to the skate part I’d stand on top of the ramp and the ramp would look bigger and bigger the longer I stood there. Today there was a young girl at the park and I taught her how to drop in on a smaller ramp and then she did a bigger one and it gave me the confidence to try the big one. I did it and it felt so darn good. I was so excited. And now I can’t wait to learn stalls.
Thank you for this video. It’s nice to know that other people feel and can relate. Also I love that in your videos, when you fall, you smile or laugh. It’s a good reminder to just let go and let it be. Don’t come down on yourself, smile and get back up. My fear against fear was doing good even though I can’t really skate forward. And it was TERRIFYING 🤣🤣🤣 but I was able to get a 180 turn. Lol but that was like two months ago and I haven’t skated since so pretty sure I’m back to square one. But it’s a journey.
Ok, so today i will focus on purposely falling with technique and getting over this fear thing…i figure that if I thrown myself on the ground enough I will get over this fear and out of my own head. And then maybe I can actually move past this. Thank you
Such a good video! I sprained my knee landing a 50-50 grind on the tall ledge last week. Something I wanted to do for awhile and I cant wait for my knee to heal so I can get back out there and try again
Got my skates this Feb, I just wear them in carpet and can't move 1 meter ! I even joined support group but im terrible at balancing and surrender easily so I only sit with skates on with no actual rolling ,, Sigh
Have you ever thought of using a wobble board to help improve your balanced. It is not the same as balancing when rolling forward, but it might help. m.ua-cam.com/video/xeWTiJ99Wms/v-deo.html My wobble board is the type shown in this video: m.ua-cam.com/video/35fhzkjWGAc/v-deo.html ... it allows you to wobble in all directions, not just side to side.
Great topic and video! Started roller skating last Saturday. Hoped I was a ´natural´, but ate grass three times today lol. But, proud of myself too as I got up and tried again ánd while I felt awkward all geared up (wearing protection on my knees and wrists), glád I did! Besides that it might prevent me from bad injuries, it also makes me feel more confident than when I didn't wear it (first day).
Something super simple was I had a HUGE brain block with transitions, something super simple, and when I finally got it I was like WOAH and ever since it’s been so easy. Sometimes it really it just a mental block. You just gotta do it
I was trying to do a stall and felt backwards on the ramp, even though it hurts now I’m not afraid of the coping anymore 🤣 I’m pretty happy with that fall, think it was the courage I needed
Ahhhhh I found this video just in time! I want to go to moxi skate camp but I’m scared not only because I’m barley a beginner but also because I’ll be all alone & this will be my first solo trip
Even skating for so long, i still have fear, specially now, that i'm trying skateparks. My worst fear is to get injured, and take a long time to recover, bc i'm not young as my skate pals, so, everything is a little more difficult....I try to compensate by working out and getting strong muscles.
I was scared of hill bombing because a saw a lot of fail hill bombing videos online and was ready scared to try it out but I told myself I can’t buy new skates until I tried it and guess what I found I’m really good at hill bombing and I have a brand new pair of moxi skates ☺️
But how do I just start? I tired to do rollloskating outside and I’m scared that I’m not doing anything, like I’m going nowhere. How do I know if I’m making progress, or not?
It's not new trick I'm afraid of... It's skating itself, Im just so afraid that I freeze the moment I have skates on my feet and nothing to hold on to. My legs go wobbly and I can't even start to move. I purchased a pair of secondhand skates in August 2020 and got close to no progress at all. I could only do a forward bubble and a backward one in front of my bed. But the moment I was outside... I could do nothing even though I kept trying for months. I got softer wheels to avoid feeling the pebbles too hard but... still no improvement. I have a poor sense of balance, even without wheels on and was told that artistic skates could help so I purchased a pair this summer. But the moment I was outside... same story. I freeze and start getting weak legs. I don't know what to do. I just get so depressed for repeatedly failing, my friends tell me that I should just give up, that it's not my thing, but it makes me feel so bad to not being able to conquer my fear. All the more since, as a child, I could spend hours on wheels. I am not the self-confident type and have the feeling that skating could really help but so far it just "proves" how lame I am :/
Thank you for this video. I recently gave my grand children skates because, although, I was never good at it (especially as I see you doing these tricks!). But It was FUN just to float around on skates. I am 61 and will be retiring soon and decided I wanted to skate as a way to exercise during retirement. My adult children were not supportive. My husband is usually supportive of everything I do, but wasn’t excited about me doing it. I was recovering from (non skating related) foot surgery and decided to ignore the naysayers. I decided if I was going to do it, I wanted a really nice pair of skates, so I read a lot of reviews and decided on a Moxi pair of black suede skates. I was so looking forward to trying them so I could skate with my grandkids-or alone around the neighborhood. I hadn’t skated in 30+ years before two days ago, and although I knew better I didn’t sweep the driveway first and since I was super rusty, when I hit a rock, I fell hard on my rear end. I can’t wait til it heals so I can get back up and enjoy skating again! Thank you for this video of encouragement!
You said everything that happens to me as I approach a skate park or even go for a cruise. I live in an area that literally NO ONE skates! And to tope that I am a 30yr old mumma of 5. So I feel all the ick feelings, I get super nervous and I am not a confident person. I love skating more though! I totally feel like people are judging me, not because I am a mum, but just the fact that I am on skates. People are starring! 🙃 I am really trying to just enjoy!
I broke my elbow this early July and this video has helped me start to deal with the trauma of the skateboard accident so thank you for that! I cant wait till this injury journey is over and I can hangup my skateboard and lace my skates back up instead 😂 Ive always felt safer on my skates then on my surf skate board 😩
I went to the rink for the first time in over 20 years (alone) and got back out there. Wiped out once but muscle memory took over & I was fine. I’m legit addicted again
Hi! I skate Moxi Jack boots because they are supportive and comfortable. I currently skate chaya mid size trucks and orbs skateboard wheels. I like small hard wheels because they seem to perform the best for grinding ledges. I like wider trucks than the standard narrow trucks on most roller skates for doing a different grind variations.
I was soooo excited to learn rollerskating but in the first day I broke my wrist. It has been 2 years since the incident and I want to try it again but I'm so scared!! And that's not about the pain. Breaking my wrist made me stay home for 1 month and it was like hell 😭
Thanks for this video. I am happy already that I even ordered a pair of skates. I have been always scared of stuff that might include physical injuries but I really want to overcome this. I feel it will bring myself to another level even if I just capable of balancing and skating a few metres :D
I have that rainbow melty lady print 😃 Also rollerskating is the thing I like sucking at the most in the world!!! I got my skates in January, but I live in Canada so I've only been able to go to the skate park for the first time this month!!! It's so exciting 😄
I'm a new Skater and I'm using the tennis court up the street (super empty) and legit people will park and watch... as I nail it or hit the deck🤣.... and it's unnerving. I tried a skate park today and a outdoor skate rink 2 weeks ago... and I rolled a little and then left🤣🤣🙄🤣🥲 super overwhelming and super anxiety inducing
what is wrong with people?? that is so creepy to be just driving around and seeing a roller skater and parking the car to watch 🙄😒 so sorry you experienced that... I haven't been able to skate outside yet in case something like that happens
Honestly I don’t care about the people and the stares. Mine is the fear of falling hard, getting injured. It’s pretty painful. I’ll get over it sometime.
That is totally understandable! Have you looked into learning and even practicing how to fall? We find that it helps the body when responding to real falls, and also brings your confidence up a bit along the way :)
me : "I'm gonna watch this video because i can stride at the rink but can't do it outside" *watch the first few seconds* "😲... ok... she literally jumped into a hole..." 👀 😨
@@fraise_fraud Allow me to rephrase that. Just because you fall, doesn’t mean that you are failing. Learning how to fall is part of the process of learning how to skate. The better you get at falling, the less afraid you become. My comment was not meant to be discouraging in any way.
@@fraise_fraud I hope so! BTW, there’s a fantastic UA-cam channel that goes by the name Dirty School of Skate. DDH is an awesome skate instructor! If you haven’t come across that channel, check it out. I’m always learning something new from there. Anyway, good luck with your progress!!!
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” friends pray to Jesus by faith and ask him to save you and forgive you of your sins by his finished work on the cross and you will receive eternal life in the kingdom of heaven and your name will be written in the book of life
This is so cozy, tucked under blanket and talking to UA-cam ! Lovley setup
Now everytime I have to try I'm nervous, but I keep challenging myself to go a little further everyday.
omg me too! I'll do a max of an hour and a minimum of 15 minimum. I'm super afraid and freeze away from a wall.
I skated outside on my own! I was terrified but I did it for about 15 minutes and was so proud!
I had a really hard fall last Wednesday and haven't skated since , I'm going to go skating tomorrow this video helped me Make up my mind.
You can do it!!! I found that doing an entire stretching routine daily really helped my fall
Yes! Set backs happen, getting back out there is a feat in itself :) Hope it went well!
I bruised my wrist yesterday, and today I could hardly move on my skates. Yesterday was my first attempt in 30 years
Don't give up, my friend!
@@taraelizabethdensley9475get some wrist guards. I’m 43 and I don’t want to skate without them. They definitely make a difference if you fall.
The fear is real, especially for ppl who can’t skate and want to learn. Just bought a pair of roller skates and looking forward to this new journey. Going back to your video now
Yess! You got this :)
I’m 41 and I sat on my background yard ramp tonight in tears because I felt old and silly and I am scared of the coping. Slide blocks are slippery and I keep falling. This video is perfect timing for me. Thank you so much.
You GOT THIS!! 💕💕 Don't let society set your limits. Sending you hugs of encouragement 🤗
Show that mind who's in charge 💪🏻
A backyard ramp?! wow! I am 42 years old, I feel you. I fell hard in the street the other day. It seems to hurt more and longer now that I am older. Good luck conquering all these things.
Don't worry, you are certainly not alone! It gets easier and easier, I promise :) You can always take the blocks off until you get comfy
Totally feel all of this! I get so impatient, but realize I just need to go at my own pace. We got this
I’m 57 and wish I could skate everyday, all day. Have fun and get out of your head. :)
The skate park is my favorite place to go now 🛼🛼
Thats awesome! I love to hear when others are respectful and understanding. keep it up :)
Thank you.
That is amazing!! Keep enjoying your skates and before you know it, it will be like second nature to you
My fear comes from social anxiety.
I fell on my face and got a black eye my very first day. Took me a week to try again.
props for trying again though! Thats the hardest part imo
I love your voice, it's so relaxing and loud enough to understand. Thank you for the talk today about fear and that falling, injury's are inevitable.
Awh thanks so much!
@@SKATEFANTOM you're welcome, I've subbed to your channel
Love from Brazil 💛💚
PS.: Brazil has a *HUGE* LACK on brands of rollerskates, and things related. We don't have good and durable skates here. Everything comes from China, and the only national good brand stands for figure skating. We have to import everything (the good stuff!) and it is so complicated. Please thing about your brazilian friends in the future.
Yesss! 50/50's is not an easy trick especially for only skating one year!
Squat twice a week and make sure to have a protein shake afterwards.
i feel this. i sprained my elbow 2 weeks into learning how to skate and im petrified im going to get injured again and itll potentially be worse than my first injury. i want to go to the rinks so bad but my fears holding me back :/
Please do! I bet you won't regret it
I am very proud of myself for even skating forward and then working my way to park skating and dropping in.
As you should be! Dropping in looks like the scariest thing in the world to me 😅
Dropping in is a huge deal! congrats!
With that cozy environment and the blanket, this feels like a free therapy session and I am ~into it~
haha i appreciate the kind words!! Glad it was helpful to listen to ❤️
A few thoughts. Such a very groovy afghan covering for you

You are perfect!
Blessings.
This is really inspiring Tucker! How's the skating going?
Thank you so much for this. Sharing your own anxieties and being vulnerable has helped me feel better. I'm not a big baby. This is normal. 💕
Errrr that's a goal for me now too 😋🍦
this awesome haha. Please share the clip with us when you get it ;)
Good for you. I just want to be able to whizz around the park and later around the streets safely
Oh man that first fall 😭
Thank you!
So happy this helped! Hope you get your next trick goal :)
Watch videos of how to properly fall
Falling is apart of the process but it gets less scary with practice. You will get more comfortable in no time :)
today is my first day back on skates since i sprained my ankle in february, this video was incredibly timed for me
Good luck! Coming back from injury is super tough. I am sure you will be great though
Literally had a hard fall on my tailbone yesterday and I’m currently in bed with an ice pack 🙈 I’m gonna be so nervous when I’m able to skate again, thanks for this video 🙏🏼
Hope you heal up quick and get back out there!
Uggh
A week later and I’m nursing a herniated lumbar disc and can hardly walk.

I'm so glad I stumbled across these videos!
Just the other day, I finally bombed some small hills and it was scary but so awesome because I was super scared before I did it. Thanks for this awesome video. It’s helping me so much!
I am not much of a hill bomber myself because they are scary! Thats a big accomplishment in my book 👏
@@SKATEFANTOM Thank you! They are scary but I’m all about facing fears for sure but hey, you impressed the shit outta me with that roof jump! Whoa!
To any other skaters,
You got this.
I may just take the plunge and buy myself a pair of skates and start learning again after all 🥰
(Also, for any other fellow Spoonies who may stumble upon this video/comment, I’d love to hear your specific experiences skating with chronic pain and/or disabilities!
Damn I just got my beach bunnies and I was so scared of falling ..perfect timing seriously
You got this! 💪

This is amazing advice 👏🏽 your amazing 👏🏽 ❤️
ive been a rollerblader since brink came out in the 90s , i agree with everything you said in this video , cheers keep skating
Thank you! Glad to hear you're still skating :)
love that movie!
Thats so awesome to hear! 🙌
OMG I cant wait to see the full video!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you! Pretty soon!
Ok, so today i will focus on purposely falling with technique and getting over this fear thing…i figure that if I thrown myself on the ground enough I will get over this fear and out of my own head. And then maybe I can actually move past this. Thank you
Here's another video that could help you :) ua-cam.com/video/pQs2EctX99I/v-deo.html
We are working on a video that you might find very helpful. We will be releasing that video very soon. Stay tuned!
Have you ever thought of using a wobble board to help improve your balanced. It is not the same as balancing when rolling forward, but it might help.

My wobble board is the type shown in this video:

... it allows you to wobble in all directions, not just side to side.
We're proud of you too! You got this! ❤
Something super simple was I had a HUGE brain block with transitions, something super simple, and when I finally got it I was like WOAH and ever since it’s been so easy. Sometimes it really it just a mental block. You just gotta do it
Great advice. Totally off topic, does anyone know what blanket pattern that is? Is a great blanket! ❤
There will be a ton of beginner classes to take, and lots of friends to be made along the way!
Even skating for so long, i still have fear, specially now, that i'm trying skateparks. My worst fear is to get injured, and take a long time to recover, bc i'm not young as my skate pals, so, everything is a little more difficult....I try to compensate by working out and getting strong muscles.
Working out and strengthening your muscles goes a long way! You got this!
Already fall today. Not giving up but I have poor balance and bad knees so I will work on them before skating again.
I was scared of hill bombing because a saw a lot of fail hill bombing videos online and was ready scared to try it out but I told myself I can’t buy new skates until I tried it and guess what I found I’m really good at hill bombing and I have a brand new pair of moxi skates ☺️
heck yes!!! Hill bombing is so scary. It takes guts to get good at that 🙌
But how do I just start?
Thanks for sharing. I am a little more confident to attempt small ramps and jump. I'll pick a spot at the skate park and go from there.
I would like to see your personal rollerblade setup. It would be cool to see/hear why you picked your particular skates, wheels, etc.
@@SKATEFANTOM thank you, for the response! The fact that you took the time to respond says a lot about the people behind this channel! You guys rock!
I'm pretty good at skating, but I want to improve and learn tricks but I'm scared to fall even though I have full gear. What do I do???
Love this topic, thanks for sharing.
Sometimes when I get scared of falling, I’ll do a couple of practice falls, so I remember it’s usually not that bad and that I know how to fall
I AM LOVING THAT PORTRAIT IN THE BACK LOOKS LIKE WATERCOLOR ON WHITE ...SIZZLE
I have that rainbow melty lady print 😃 Also rollerskating is the thing I like sucking at the most in the world!!! I got my skates in January, but I live in Canada so I've only been able to go to the skate park for the first time this month!!! It's so exciting 😄
Thats awesome! And I love that painting :) By artist Agnes Cecile
@@j49683 Honestly just keep some headphones on and push through definitely let someone who your close with know that you're there and the location.
Thanks for sharing.....
Honestly I don’t care about the people and the stares. Mine is the fear of falling hard, getting injured. It’s pretty painful. I’ll get over it sometime.
That is totally understandable! Have you looked into learning and even practicing how to fall? We find that it helps the body when responding to real falls, and also brings your confidence up a bit along the way :)
me : "I'm gonna watch this video because i can stride at the rink but can't do it outside"
*watch the first few seconds*
"😲... ok... she literally jumped into a hole..." 👀 😨
what a beautiful video, thanks roller goolie
big love
I'm still scared of falling back!
how did the trick go?
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
If you’re not falling, you’re not learning. Falling is not failing.
That’s kind of discouraging ngl
@@fraise_fraud Allow me to rephrase that. Just because you fall, doesn’t mean that you are failing. Learning how to fall is part of the process of learning how to skate. The better you get at falling, the less afraid you become. My comment was not meant to be discouraging in any way.
@@RavenClaw888 This might be what I needed to cure my skating stress
@@fraise_fraud I hope so! BTW, there’s a fantastic UA-cam channel that goes by the name Dirty School of Skate. DDH is an awesome skate instructor! If you haven’t come across that channel, check it out. I’m always learning something new from there. Anyway, good luck with your progress!!!
@@RavenClaw888 Yeah I checked her out before I got roller skates thanks
Was scared to get my 2nd vaccine is there anything other then a sour arm to be affraid of?
Anyone who drops into a skate bowl is not afraid of skating
I dont think its funny when someone gets hurt.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” friends pray to Jesus by faith and ask him to save you and forgive you of your sins by his finished work on the cross and you will receive eternal life in the kingdom of heaven and your name will be written in the book of life
This was really refreshing to hear, thank you
