Nadal played straightforwardly aggressive here, but you can see whenever he is in a little pinch, he just sent high bouncing slightly short stroke with heavy topspin to Diego's backhand and just exploited Diego's lack of height and force him to hit a difficult awkward high backhand. He didn't pepper him with that though, he made sure Diego plays with normal rhythm throughout the match, and only uses it sparingly during crucial points so he never got used to it.
Rafa is so ruthless and intelligent with his tactics.

@@Cwm368 but its an amazing accomplishment that he's done so well specifically because of his height. It's honestly unreal. To be where he is today with the body that he has, Diego has to be so much more skilled and work so much harder than everyone else. In my eyes, only the big 3 can claim to demonstrate more skill than diego does every match.
Its not just higher contact point on the serve. its greater wingspan for reach, more torque for more power, longer legs for a higher top speed and more efficient court coverage.
can you imagine a diego that hits harder, runs faster, covers more of the net, AND serves better? give this man 5 inches and he would be competing for number 1 in the world.
I'm biased though, this guy has been my favourite player on tour ever since I realized that he's basically the only man on tour that's shorter than me haha. I've learned so much from watching him. at 5'8" I had thought I had reached the limits of my potential as a casual player, but seeing diego made me realize I was just a lazy quitter and since then I've improved so much and still see so much more to improve.
so this guy is my hero and I never want anyone to stop talking about his height because he's an inspiration.

When Nadal led 4-0 in the first set, I thought he is going to win it 6-0
But then Nadal is the only one amongst the big three that has that unpredictability, even on his own serve.
I guess it is that unpredictability that makes Nadal's matches less certain and more tension.
He looked more fearless when he was younger. Nowadays he looks more nervous and more tensed.

If Schwartzmann was 1.90 m tall, he would be perma Top 5 minimum. And no, no BS like "but he wouldn't be so fast". It's the magic, the power and the perfection in his forehand, which has nothing to do. It's absolutely brutal. Sadly, the racquet evolution (more power, more speed) is making this game full of boring tall players like Zverev, Tsitsipas or Medvedev, with nothing original to offer, but 80% of their points being service points. Tell me again in a couple of years and you'll see.
