- Hi Friends and Happy Friday! Today's video is a little different today and I hope that's okay! I kind of have a long chat and heart to heart at the end about where my head's been at the last couple of weeks and it felt right to share with you if anyone else is feeling similar. I hope to be more vulnerable and share what's on my heart more often with you and hope that it is something you might connect with. Next week I am planning on making a video about why I make videos and the heart I have for this channel and the vision I hope to share with you all. Anyway, enough with my late night ramblings... I totally get it. When I was in school (back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth), I was a (well, not very big) fish in a small pond. I was THE artist. Until I changed schools, and then there might be two of us. It wasn't twenty years ago that I was told only a few people could do what I could. That seemed encouraging. Then the internet picked up steam, and all of the people who did all of the things that I liked were unveiled, and it was a bit daunting. It seemed to not matter what I achieved because apparently thousands, if not millions, of other people were achieving the exact same thing. It's like there were multiple copies of me all over the Earth doing the same things. I was common and replaceable, and there were even better, newer versions of me out there. Or so it seemed. It's important to realize that it's a matter of perspective. The world will try to convince you that you're not that special. As with clothing and interior decor, same with art: don't chase after trends. Do what you love. There will always be a place in the world for flowers, animals, and the woods. People crave those things. Right now, they crave the simple innocence of childhood. Maybe not everyone, but enough. Don't worry about doing the same trendy art that others are cranking out. What will it matter if something that is popular today and gone tomorrow is printed on archival paper that will last 100 years? What does it matter if they can design 50 copies of someone else's idea per day if you have one good idea per week or even month? On the videos, I like seeing glimpses of the process and a peek around the studio, but I also like the books, flowers, wildlife, and Cedar. :) The music is nice, too. When you pan over the gardens and show the ducks and owls and the flowers, it feels cleansing, like wind or the sound of ocean waves.

Quality over quantity. I’ve watched a lot of those creators who pump out the projects…and they aren’t necessarily original nor practical let alone reproducible/safe. Continue to build your base as you are. I appreciate your calmness and heart.

Most influencers I follow who have many followers pump something out once a week and I’ll say it here as I have said it again. Once you have captured your audience. Especially me. Randi I really enjoyed this video and your honesty about wanting to work full time as a creative. You are building up a community here and doing a wonderful job. It does take time. Thank you so much for this. I am trying to do the same but at the same time I'm holding down a very stressful full-time job at a non-profit so it's very fulfilling work but I need to create. I get burnt out if I don't have time to create, but during the pandemic I actually would craft live every night and did so for 320 straight nights and I can tell you I was truly burnt out and like you said, the most important thing you can do for yourself is to really take a break. Whether it's a week or two weeks, always have content pre-prepared so that if you do need to take a break, you can make a compilation and just edit it within an hour or two and just without any pressure

Yes, breaks and time for yourself is so so so important! And what I have found is that people are so supportive too! Even if I take a break from actual content creating/posting they are still their to cheer me on and support me! It's a hard lesson to truly put into practice and make a habit, but it really does make the biggest difference! Wishing you the best on all your creative endeavors too! 💛
You can tell when someone is being genuine. You have opened up to us and we can tell that you hurt inside because you love what you do. This is the time to concentrate on all your past successes and realise they outweigh the bad days by far. Sometimes the creative mind needs a break . You will find inspiration when you least expect it x

Thanks for sharing your takeaways from your difficulties as an artist, it makes me feel better even though I am not an artist, but a teacher. A lot of the issues are the same (are the students going to be interested? Will the activities I planned be fun or boring to them? Is this lesson plan good enough? Going down a rabbit hole of research only to decide the subject is not working…)

It was really nice to hear your thoughts on where you are and where you hope this journey takes you. You understand the ebbs and flows of the game and that the living and balancing of it is the hardest part. You’ll make it to a full time artist. 💚 I asked my 8 ball and it said ‘all signs point to yes’. 😁 One thing I do when I need ‘me’ time, is visualize all my worries, guilt, expectations, fears, (and you would include the algorithms/numbers beasts), etc. and put them in a beautiful hot air balloon and send them away on vacation. Is good that you speak of the pressure to keep up and your desire to create. Please pace yourself to what works for you. We can tell when people are posting to grow their channel for monetary reason alone than for the quality of the content they are putting out. There are many ways to achieve your goals, just do it your way. This is a good book for artist to help them out. The Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron.
