I don't think it should be free to play (at least in terms of the game's price) because the game will really make no sales otherwise (the only other monetisation method is crash coins but nobody really needs them besides the premium battlepass)
If the game's sales stop because they made it free to play, the game will die sooner than it should, which isn't really fair to the people who do like it.
Though you're still in luck because the game does occasionally go on sale, and they even do free trial weekends once per season.

Where is Sprax the Dragonfly?
I feel like Spyro is terribly designed.
I don’t own the game, but from I gather from watching these vids is that movement is important, and to have one character just have a limitless speed boost is insane.
Credit where credit is due, his charge is faithful to the original Spyro, but it does not feel like it’s exactly fair.
