For everyone asking about the Samoa try being disallowed after the conversion - this rule was updated in July of last year "this follows the 2022 Italy v Scotland Six Nations game where a knock-on in the build-up to a try was not shown to the TMO until after the conversion so could not be formally checked before the restart".

I think so, and was surprised that Nigel didn't address this one. I bet if Sheehan had been injured, Schoemann would have been carded, but it shouldn't depend on the outcome.

As Long as the game isn't reset after the try and conversion, a try can be disallowed if the TMO/VAR deems it to be so. The rules were changed a while back.

Why would the scrum be taken from the place the ball hits the spider cam and not from where the kick was taken? Wouldn't it be advantageous for the attacking team if you take the scrum from the place the ball hits the spider cam?
Same law for everyone. Consistency: reset is taken at the place of the incident, e.g. from where the forward pass began.

@sharonadlam3195 so the try went upstairs the ref and tmo and us watched cldnt see a knock tmo said can see no reason not to award the try so ref gave lima missed the conversion then the tmo fires up again!!!!!! . I bet they had been told to fav northern hemisphere teams when Ireland England go in the 1/4s so do there fans and the money !!!! Watch the big calls go against Fiji . Final will be AB'S VS BOKS
@@jamesogden7457 ...they showed the replay on the screen, with the knock-on. Imo it's a harsh knock-on call but it was pushed forward by a samoan hand

Hi Nigel, I appreciate your clarification of several points during the games we enjoy, now obviously you will accept that we the totally not trained and in some cases not even players are all experts and referee games so much better than the refs selected!!. Given that as a starting gambit and in all seriousness can I ask for your opinion on the standard of world referees, I dont expect you to be critical or contentious but I would like your opinion. The South African referees seem a bit off and the French refs are worryingly inconsistent a bit like the French team! you never know quite which version is going to turn up. The English refs seem to be of a much higher standard and communicate really well. Messrs Barnes and Carley and indeed Pierce stand out as did Ben Whitehouse, who is also excellent . I am fairly confident England won't get to the final which opens the door to an English ref doing the final but the TMO's seem a bit inconsistent as well. This must be so frustrating to the players. I appreciate it is a difficult question to answer diplomatically but you're good at that.. Thanks

Although still enjoyable, it feels like where previously Whistle Watch addressed everything head on, now, some of the most controversial decisions (or non-decisions in the case of Dan Sheehan being pushed) are replaced by ads for French tourism.
Nigel, what you do make of the, what seems to me superfluous interventions of the TMO in last week's games, e.g. Brian Macneice (not to single him out, but he is a good example)?

Yeah, he never seems to go against the official decisions very much, I suppose they don't want to look indecisive or admit mistakes. But it would be better if they admitted and learned from them, imo

The rule about spidercam should be play on as in most other sports. If the ball hits the goal posts it is play on why not with spidercam.
Simple... because every single rugby field has posts, but only elite level games have additional and some would consider unnecessary ephemera like spidercams. You need consistent rules for basic gameplay.

I came here for one reason and it wasn’t talked about, schoemann getting away with the dirty move on Sheehan without getting a card, yellow would have been lucky, that kind of behavior deserved a red

If he put his hand out to stop his fall it could have been a disaster if an injury.
If a player reports to an official that they were punched in the face 3x (as with Billy Vunipola vs Samoa) should the referee investigate such aligations?
Only, during the England vs Samoa match, when Mr Vunipola tried to inform the ref, he was instead threatened with a yellow card and the incident was never even reviewed.
I'm not a rugby referee, and I understand the importance of respecting the referee, but that doesn't seem fair & punching people in the face multiple times during a confrontation should be penalised to show that sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

Nigel would love to know your thoughts about the high hand off against Penaud in the last game against Italy, where Penaud basically stops playing and tells the ref it was high, as if his call is what made the ref blow the whistle.
As soon as a ref sees a hand off to them they deserve a hand job. Pensud did say I'm high not the tackle.nek minute
