A nice cup of morning coffee ☕️ and story 56 taking you into the weekend. I find the stories very fascinating when you touch on military life. Always a message to take away if your listening. Have a great weekend and stay safe. Looking forward to the next story.
Great stuff! I posted before on going to French Commando School for three weeks in France and the food was just as you explained in the video--terrible! We lived on MREs that we brought because we were starving. Pigeon for dinner and other mystery meat. Breakfast was a big bowl of sliced bread that the nasty French troops picked out of with dirty hands and coffee. Lunch was more bread with deli meats and dark chocolate. Lost 25lbs.
Hahaha you Americans are amazing, you are so used to eating industrially raised chickens, tasteless and full of antibiotics, that real food shocks you. Mystery meat.... ahahah. Snails, frogs, goats, rabbits, horses, fish are delicious and healthy!!! Fantastic🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Once again my brotha you speak the gospel of truth! If your a man and your not physically strong and able to cover down then you are failing yourself and your people! Confidence and the ability to defend yourself and the weak come in many forms. Being physically fit and strong is a fundamental key to happiness and better health. You wont ever find someone saying I would rather be weak and unable to defend what is mine and protect thsoe who cannot protect themselves. You may false confidence and so called "abilities" in the weak or unfit but its just that, false and misguided. Any man if given the choice should choose to be physically and mentally fit. True confidence, which IS important to a man- make no mistake, happens when you are at the peak of pbysical and mental endurance. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise! Stay strong! Stay fit, be of good courage and moral character! Out here - Mako06 🤙
I'm 56 - and have always tried to keep fit. As you age, know your physical abilities degrade. Does not matter!! Keep some type of physical activity. Don't decide one day to hang it up - because if that day comes it'll be harder to dig yourself out of that hole
There was an interesting documentry about the French MRE. Basically the planning went along the lines of, a soldier deployed for a long time eating MREs gets a psycological boost when he opens a ration and sees products which he knows are civilian quality, not made in some military contracted factory. So each product, whether it be sardines, cheese, pork and beans will be packaged like he would see in a supermarket in France, made by well respected food companies. So at least while you eat part of you feels at home. Of course there are other french rations, commando rations etc etc... they go go the whole "tactical step"... but the regular deployment rations are the box of tins
T, very much enjoy your videos. college educated, went enlisted to the Navy. Then got it together again at the legion. You have the story of a lifetime, no regrets and squared away. All my best. Robert Ryan
I once got given 1/2 a pork chop in a mess hall. The guy next to me got the other half We were told it was because of budget cuts I am weak with laughter at you stuffing your ruck with tuna. Another fantastic bit of content Nice watch by the way !!
I’m a slender fellow but, in the Marine Corps, I always packed nuts & jerky. I ate a lot of spaghetti-os from the can to keep weight. The good old day…. 40 plus years ago.
💥💥Once again, a great episode, TCAV. And I fully agree, that it is not OK for Men to be weak... I don't know where that came from. I love that you packed tuna and additional protein. That took a great deal of commitment because adding extra weight on a hump is not for the weak at heart. TCAV, keep doing it, Brother and thank you.💥💥
Your back on State soil, The Mojo is back. U.S.Armed Forces Boot Camp , Cheese Burgers, Sloppy Joes and Kool Aid🤣I loved it. Eat and keep your suck closed from talking. America 🇺🇸 still has the greatest fighting force on 🌎 I was part of it.
When your belly is full, you feel good. You're not wondering where your next meal is coming from. You can think. Plan. Anticipate and prepare. Not think constantly about eating. A hot meal revitalizes the body and mind. Even in training, marching back at night after 10 miles, having thr mess hall cooks come out with big cans of hot vegetable soup and deli sandwiches can inject morale and spirit right back a to bunch of cold, tired, exhausted, troops with blisters on their feet are numb shoulders from carrying that ruck sack and rifle. So confidence comes from havi g a full stomach. You feel you can do the job and not shivering in the cold. You are focused ajd not obsessed with eating enough calories and protein.
That's why the mess cooks are so important. Unsung heroes. When they drive up with a field kitchen to set up, it means the rear is secure. The front is not in real danger cuz they are preparing hot food for you right there. If thr cooks can't drive up with a field kitchen, getting hot food in those big green thermos containers so they can ladle out good hot solid food to your plate is the greatest sight on earth. Not only feeding thr body, it means you're being taken care of. Having a full belly means you can focus on the job and bot growling in your stomach.
These kind of things are important, there is a lot of people who just do not understand a sluggish or weighted down day, I do not even know from a nutritional pint of view, but some of those days it is entirely the reason why....Maybe if you can go into detail or just touch base for the average Joe, I think that would be awesome....Thanks for sharing Cav))!❤

Reminds me of living in a tent on deployment, not allowed to have food in the tent. Me? I stash leftover MREs, jerky, protein powder and whatever else I could get my hands on in a large 35mm ammo box.
Wrong. A hungry man is weaker. Lack of food weakens a man's performance. Morale goes to hell. You cant function without thinking about food. Food deprivation is to get the troops used to functioning hungry in combat where they might not get food deliveries and have to keep fighting, marching, rucking, etc on minimal food intake. When you're hungry, the cold feels colder and you shiver much faster and harder. When you hurt, being hungry makes the hurt feel worse. Eat some good hot food and your body stops shivering and thr pain lessens. But you have that luxury so you have to get your body used to it.
I was in the legion early eighties, sorry the food was good, bread coffeein morning it was half a baguette and a big mug of coffee, about 10am a baguette, and a tin of sardines, lunch a bottle of coke fanta etc, macaroni, some beef steak and some vegetables, evening similar. That was in instruction,id been in british army infantry before.I think i come from the generation that through sixties ,seventies eighties ate fairly sensibly.Sundays we would have half a baguette a yoghurt and a couple of blocks of dark chocolate ,luch evening meal same as during the week. The corporals ate in training exactly the same.No one looked malnourished i would say fit an healthy, mostly outdoors no sugar rope climbing pressups etc physical traini g and food i found great, but unfortunately ,my corporals course came up,i asked for a different regiment, they said no so i thought id disappear for a few days so they would transfer me went to brussels, then thought couldnt be bothered to go back
I wonder if the minimal food in the Legion’s Initial Entry Training is designed as part of the stress in training, much like back in The Good Old Days in Ranger School.
It's just dumb though. You can't really train for starvation and in a lot of physical exertion that damage you do to your body is permanent. Literally little point to it. Rangers have a history and there's a point to it but the missions we send them on don't typically require some starvation like the civil war era did so that part of the phase could be dropped from training and you'd notice little difference in effectiveness. People just plan around it in Ranger school anyhow, bulk up a bit before going because you can expect to lose 20+lbs. A lot of things in the military are done simply because they're traditional, not because they make sense or show measureable results.
@@mgs85 You make solid and compelling points, but I’m not sure how much permanent damage is caused by the lack of food and sleep deprivation. For sure, it’s not sustainable as in “Hey, Ranger School does it, so let’s do the same all year long here in the XYZ Infantry Division, too!” I’ve noticed that-only speaking for myself-decades after graduating and having long since PCSed to Fort Living Room, a certain amount of “it’s no big deal” mental attitude persists and shows itself when it’s cold or rainy, I miss a meal, etc. I actually enjoy typhoons here in Taiwan 🇹🇼 because I know that I no longer have to eat and sleep in such horrific weather! Take care of yourself and if you’re still in uniform, please keep your head down, Brave Soldier, hooah?
@@danielvillarreal6610 out a long time now, but thanks and same to you. In terms of sleep deprivation it’s all permanent damage, every second of it after a bit. Malnutrition I think is where it’s all permanent damage as well but I’d have to spend an afternoon reading up on it again. Lots of research done on the two subjects, lots to read. It’s like the rucking too. Rucking your body weight is just all damage, no benefit, all the way down to maybe 1/4 of your body weight depending on a number of factors. The loads we carry nowadays would make us combat ineffective against any modern day element you’d come across on the modern battlefield but these missions are ran against far technically capable foes so…

This is honestly one of the most interesting topics. Would love to hear more about specific foods…was it French style? Best meal? Anything tasty harvested from the jungle? Anything special on holidays?
The legion know what they are doing. You should make an episode entitled “ Method in the Madness. They are trying to change the new recruits body into how we were thousands of years ago. The french don’t use pasta sauce on spaghetti. Just salt & butter, even that’s enough for me. I laughed right through this story. Beware of lean people
I think what hes saying is people way back in the day before everyone had a damn horse we used to have to walk run everywhere. Eating food would have been a much different processs too complete meals i bet were almost non existent except for when making a kill for hunting. This type of lifestyle id imagine would lead to a hardened body with great endurance. I mean look at those tribes in africa who run after animals until the animal drops from exhausting than they kill it. Us humans cant run fast but damn we can sure go a long distance.@chiefwahoo4130
i like the way the Legion does it, less food, more running. Would our military benefit for more of that? Either in basic or beyond? I work next door to a major joint base, and it seems like there are lot of overweight soldiers/airman. Would love to hear the opinion of guys who served or still serving.
Do the French still have wine in the MREs,my Pop's told me about the European militarys having that back when he was in,he did courses and schools all thru Euro, plus was in SF 10thGroup
Good morning, you made me smile today, talking about food, the American seal came out obsessed with proteins instead of the legionnaire.😂😂😂 But I envied your rations for the 40 day mission in the jungle in Guyana, don't complain, at least , they gave them to you!!😂 You didn't talk about the procedure in the canteen, I think it would be of interest to your audience. LPN
Wow! I have heard before that food in the FFL was sparse. That just doesn't make sense to me, expending thousands of calories a day, it just doesn't sound like a healthy way to go, plus it's bad for morale.
What do you do after you finish training in the legion? Do they keep you around doing shit or they immediately deploy you to fight in South Africa or wherever?
Hey, I'm joining the legion mid spring next year and wanted to check k some things with you. I have spoken another legionare in my country about what it's like and he made it very clear running is extremely important, he told me I should be running 8k in around 30min everyday before I go. I'm curious what you think of that as a goal and if it is good enough or not
I just talked to the navy recruiter. Standerds changed so i can get in without a GED. Im in a bad place with no sense in where im going or doing at 24. But because I have a cross tattoo on both my ears. I cant get in. Turns out im fucked. I still listen to you for motivation.

I thought French Cooking was the best 😂
Me too
I served on Submarines and man we had good eats. But I always thought that the French Army would have these gourmet MREs . Lol
How about a video about France, the French, and their culture. And French women too
Hey TCAV do you have any tips for core work? Love your videos and advice
Planks brother. Also i have tips and tricks to keep this shit fresh to ensure we stay doing it. Email me: tcavofficial@gmail.com
Yo Taylor my homie. How did you guys deal with drinking water in the JUNGLE? Purification tabs , boiling , filtering?
Scope my Legion Jungle Ops Vid
You can buy gear over the counter legally in France probably easy to maintain muscle over there
Incorrect bro.
Liked “gotta do what you gotta do!”
Leave it to an American, to try and change the old institution!😂
Def not tryin to change it, but wasnt gunna bend the knee to it like a sheep
AWSOME BRO ?????????? I ALWAYS KEEP TUNA AND SARDINES ON STAND BY....
Packing cans of tuna, Pringles can size. My fucking hero!
i like the way the Legion does it, less food, more running. Would our military benefit for more of that? Either in basic or beyond? I work next door to a major joint base, and it seems like there are lot of overweight soldiers/airman. Would love to hear the opinion of guys who served or still serving.
There's def too many ovetweight soldiers it ridiculous
Good story!
An Army Fights on its Stomoch
What a pity no Fine French Fine Wine & Food
agreed!
Do the French still have wine in the MREs,my Pop's told me about the European militarys having that back when he was in,he did courses and schools all thru Euro, plus was in SF 10thGroup
But what was the food like, good or bad? What was a typical daily menu. (Apart from the coffee and bread.)
When you get deployed, you end up in the strangest places. That Rolex watch is $50 in Thailand.
"You got to break the rules to get shit done" i have lived by something similar "Rules are for children"
Good chat
Did You, Taylor Cavanaugh, Prior to the French Army Foreign Legion, eat good food in The Teams( BUD/S, STT, SQT) , as a Navy 🦭🐸 Man?!
Could you do a video where you show off how well you speak French now that you’ve been in for a while
Good morning, you made me smile today, talking about food, the American seal came out obsessed with proteins instead of the legionnaire.😂😂😂 But I envied your rations for the 40 day mission in the jungle in Guyana, don't complain, at least , they gave them to you!!😂 You didn't talk about the procedure in the canteen, I think it would be of interest to your audience. LPN
The most important part
Wow! I have heard before that food in the FFL was sparse. That just doesn't make sense to me, expending thousands of calories a day, it just doesn't sound like a healthy way to go, plus it's bad for morale.
Can you do an episode about speaking French and how that works
Hello! Besides training chow, in France what would you say is pretty damn good to try as someone first time in France? Your favorite...
What watch you rocking TCAV - Rolex Sub?
👌🏼
I don't eat breakfast, perfect!
What do you do after you finish training in the legion? Do they keep you around doing shit or they immediately deploy you to fight in South Africa or wherever?
Send each guy to respective regiments for more specialized training
Hey, I'm joining the legion mid spring next year and wanted to check k some things with you. I have spoken another legionare in my country about what it's like and he made it very clear running is extremely important, he told me I should be running 8k in around 30min everyday before I go. I'm curious what you think of that as a goal and if it is good enough or not
That’s way too fast, Top marathon runner is 20ks an hour. what about the pack & weapon? Lightweights will struggle on the forced marches. Bon courage!
@leedsunited007 I'm filling my bag with sand weighing 20kg (I think around 15pounds)
Where did you workout? Was there an on base gym? Or did you have to get your swole on off post? 🏋♂️💪
Off post wasnt an option. Small gym on base.
I just talked to the navy recruiter. Standerds changed so i can get in without a GED. Im in a bad place with no sense in where im going or doing at 24. But because I have a cross tattoo on both my ears. I cant get in. Turns out im fucked. I still listen to you for motivation.
Whats the FFL ( uppermanagement FFL ) general stance on steroids and PEDS?
Good to go, keep it quiet, extreme banned?
