It’s gotta be difficult as hell to mute out the crowd, but this is the type of shit that made players like MJ crazy to watch. The stories of players and fans talking shit and him shutting them up with his game is the shit we fans love.
These men are human beings. These fans need to recognize that. Fans need to show respect and enjoy the game. Most brothers ain’t having it ! Most brothers grow up in very challenging situations and know the code of the streets. I remember when Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) wasn’t having it. I bet that fan still has nightmares ! I bet that fan still sees that 6’8” power forward coming into the stands to “handle his business”.
Ron Artest is a moron. He hit an innocent man and trampled another instead of the one who actually threw the cup at him, got fined millions, suspended the rest of the season + playoffs, and got charged for assault.
Stop the bullshit most nba players although grew up in the streets wasn’t out there gangbanging or living by no dam street code. Most of these dudes went to a private school. I’m sure Lebron was keeping it real it his private catholic high school fill with bunch of rich white kids.
Winning fixes all of that… I get it from a moral standpoint but in reality it’s just a basketball game and yes it is possible that some fans may cross a certain line and it shouldn’t be tolerated. But in the other hand I still believe it’s up to the player how to go about it.
Nah that's unfair to players. Where I'm from if u can't behave stay home the fans should get no refund and kicked out. These issues will dwindle. Allow it eventually it will be a riot one day. It's a long season and that behavior will take a tole on players mentally eventually.

Yeah people should not be disrespectful and not enough people get confronted nowadays but words are words and outside of inciting violence those multi million dollar salaries should be more then enough to compensate for something a fan said to you. You can always do something about it if you are willing to pay the consequences no matter what they may be. If intense smack talking is to overwhelming there are plenty of jobs where that type of talk is not tolerated on shift, but getting paid multi millions dollars and fans have pay hundreds of dollars to watch get amped over a game while making sure to tip toe around the players being sensitive while living in one of the very few countries where free speech is part of your identity lol nah let your fans settle it with words in the crowd. Im with Kenyon. There's some ridiculous things some fans say that is way out of bounds. If someone is talking about dead relative or throwing something then you have to address it. That's how The Malice at the Palace happened
I'm a soccer fan. Thank god some of these players arent soccer players. They wouldnt survive. I remember real madrid players had fans outside smacking their cars and saying how embareased they are and that they should be ashamed. It's called emotional intelligence.. They need to expose it to us in our school
So what are we arguing about here? Listen Kmart as a point on society which I agree with, people need bullies going up to know their limits. But gil is absolutely correct. Your telling me as former basketball player who played at a state championship lvl which was only thousands of people, you can hear a motherfucker calling you or family out... Like bitch please your searching for that action doesn't make you tough firing back just makes you just much of a bitch as the person heckling you. It’s gotta be difficult as hell to mute out the crowd, but this is the type of shit that made players like MJ crazy to watch. The stories of players and fans talking shit and him shutting them up with his game is the shit we fans love.

Perfect example of fan disrespect David Beckham and his wife.
He hit an innocent man and trampled another instead of the one who actually threw the cup at him, got fined millions, suspended the rest of the season + playoffs, and got charged for assault.
exactly, most “brothers”. Black people cant control themselves and have the perspective that fans are just accessories to a event
Stop the bullshit most nba players although grew up in the streets wasn’t out there gangbanging or living by no dam street code. Most of these dudes went to a private school. I’m sure Lebron was keeping it real it his private catholic high school fill with bunch of rich white kids.
Listen here.. look i... but you know -Kenyon Martin 😂 can never finish his thoughts lol

Free speech protects you from the government. It doesn’t protect you from getting the shit slapped out of you.
I think as long as the speech is not hateful or personally attacking someone it should be allowed. Basically the same as the law. No fighting words, hate speech, or things that cause abnormal disturbances. If you get flipped off or told your a piece of sh*t. It is what is. It's disrespectful sure but it's protected speech. As a player you have to learn to ignore it.
i get both sides 100%. when you’re in a competitive environment and you’re supposed to be locked in, you can’t trip over unnecessary words from fans.

Why y’all need to pay more respect to the past eras you think bill Russell or wilt chamberlain, Kareem, Oscar Robertson could whine or complain to the media about something a drunk fan said to them ? And I remind you in the 50s and 60s where segregation was still a thing use your imagination on what you think they heard on a nightly basis
Gil is 100 percent right. Its sports. This is the only generation that mad at fans that say talk shit. Its only words to get in ya head. These mfs be way too sensitive now a days. As long as it ain't threatening you or your family, a fan can say whatever they want.
That’s not true. There’s plenty of examples of people being mad at the things fans say. Since the 80s.
Verbal assault is a thing. They fine nba players 10s of thousands but fans can abuse professional basketball players.
On top of that figuring out where do you draw the line of what can and cant be said is a debate that would not easily be settled.
Free speech doesn’t mean you don’t have consequences when you say bs. It’s beyond idiotic when bringing that up like we are the only country where people talk shit. Don’t throw rocks then hide your hands because your jealous they make a lot of money.

A lot of the fan disrespect isn't just verbal now. I think it was last year when a fan tried to spit on Trae Young, another threw his popcorn on Russ, and I believe fans were verbally and physically accosting both Ja and CP3s families.
When fans throw things at players that's an obvious line they've stepped over, but words are just words. The millionaires are paid to ignore them.
@conchobar no, they're paid to play basketball. The amount of money they make does not mean they should be okay with being disrespected. Too many fans neglect to see these players (and entertainers in general) as people and not just a product they consume.

If a fan pays good money for season tickets to go to a basketball game - They’re putting money in the players pocket so they can feed their family.
Basketball players that play basketball Are entertainers that are professionally paid money because they have athletic skills that are very good that people want to pay to watch them play which is the same thing as them being entertainers - You go to music concert to pay good money to watch a band or a singer sing music or play music - So they’re putting money in their pockets
Same thing applies here in the NBA
If a fan pays really good money to go to a basketball game to watch certain players play - As long as there, no physical contact or assaults or gunfire - Fans can say whatever they wanna say because they’re putting money in your pocket from the tickets that they bought to come see you play - Then you take the money and put it in your pocket
You are a professional entertainer for all these fans
You’ve taken the money and you’ve subjected yourself to all the publicity and all the criticisms and everything else
You should expect us at a basketball game from fans. We’re going to say what they’re going to say because they are critics.
So Kenyon Martin just needs to get over it
Stop being so sensitive
If you’re gonna take our money
Then, if we don’t put hands on you or assault you in anyway
Then you’re going to hear us criticize how you play and what we think about you
Because we paid good money for basketball ticket to come see you play
And then you’re gonna take our money
