A corrido is a ballad. It is original in Mexican culture, no different than the Caballero aka cowboy life style adopted by U.S. culture in Texas, AZ, etc. A corrido like Las Tres Tumbas or Corrido de Los Perez is equivalent story telling like the Ballad of Ira Hayes by Johnny Cash or Marty Robins - Billy the Kid. It is a genre of oppression, culture, adversity, hardship, work ethic, family feuds and struggle. Most Mexicans come from families who left small Mexican towns where this life style was prevalent. Poverty, gun slinging, struggle, family feuds etc where the norm.

In fact, last year, a poor 15 year old girl - who had NOTHING to do with a family member of hers "expiring" a member of another family - was herself victimized by that family when they realized she was related to the alleged assailant. Back in the terre - rancho life. MEXICO for law enforcement watching.
Family feuds are, even today, still prevalent. Nothing like before, but we still refer to "them" based on last names.
