In our hindu bhramin marriage we consider bride as parvathi and bridegroom.as parameshwara on their wedding day. So brides father to honour the lord he does padhapooja and gives his daughter married to him. If they are vaishnavites ie follower of vishnu the bride is considered as godess lakshmi and the bridegroom as mahavisnu. But the ritual is common in all the bhramin marriage.
I am a bengali. I like this ritials. There is similarities with ours also. Really in hinduism marriage happens in heaven. Only only one thing i have question. Why father and mother in law washes grooms legs? After all they are elders and more so they are father and mother.
The groom and bride are considered as an incarnation of shiv and parvati and brides brother as vishnu giving his sister's hand in marriage The in laws have to wash the groom's feet as he is considered as a god in Hindu Brahmin culture
You might not have seen bengali hindu marriages in detail. In ours also bride's father offers padya ie water for washing feet to groom . May be this feet washing literally has disappeared with time . But in theory its still there .
This type of fat big weddings should not be encouraged and it s big burden to the girl's parents . Middle class Brahmins have to spend most of their savings on these type of weddings which is a criminal waste. There is no support from the bridegroom side except for the thali. I wish tambras should come out and educate the community to go for short duration marriages. Already there is shortage of 40000 Brahmin girl's in tamilnadu as more girls are opting to marry outside the community because of the huge cost involved which is one of the reason. In other communities there is a equal contribution from both the sides and marriages are short duration.
Sri you arrange for it. Ask your priest to perform brahmin style marriage. Most of the rituals are the same. some things may vary based on their profession, in this case brahmin - like kasi yathrai. That is all
