i only have my grandpa but it’s the best. the books we recommended each other became one of our favorites (jane eyre for him and the name of the rose for me), and we always discuss our readings. it’s very heartwarming to know you have someone like you to share that.

I wanna read A Little Life but I'm too scared to read it.
I literally have it and plan on starting it today. I'm so scared
I’ve read it a couple,of months ago and it’s a LOT. Beware of the trigger warnings; there are so many important but traumatizing subjects in this book so I would suggest checking out the trigger warnings on good reads about this if you can handle mild spoilers. It’s a fantastic, all consuming read but might be very difficult to read for some people. Please be aware of that. Otherwise it’s fantastically written and I’d like to know what you thought of it in case you decide to reading :)
@rileyreads I really loved the book. It's definitely my favorite of all time. Don't get me wrong, it was deeply disturbing at times, and it made me cry more times than I can count. I went into it expecting the worst and found myself falling in love with the characters. I could seriously talk for days about my love for Jude and Willem. I shipped Jude and Willem from the very beginning, which surprised me since I didn't expect to ship anyone in the book. I love the symbolism in the book. JB paints a painting towards the end of the book called "Willem Looking at Jude Telling a Story". I remember JB painting a painting at the beginning of the book showing Willem looking at a girl at a party, and I was so disappointed because I wanted Willem to be looking at Jude that way. I also really love the fact that the book ends with Harold remembering Jude telling him the story about how they once got locked out of their apartment on Lispenard Street because that was the moment I thought that there was no way Jude and Willem were just friends. A lot of people talk about how Hanya just pushed as much hurt and sadness as she could into a book, and called it a day. I don't think that's true. I think it's a book about the life of someone who has a terrible past and just tries to live with it. Someone who doesn't think they're worthy of anything. But Hanya takes that person and gives them love, friends and family. She has this beautiful way of writing both friendships and romantic relationships. I still laugh when I think about Willem's girlfriends being a little too interested in Jude's sexuality. So all in all this book is amazing and I love it with all my heart, but it also broke me, and I will never be the same. Anyways, sorry for my rambling. What did you think about the book?
