I haven't watched the reaction yet, but a lot of people get this one twisted and think Tom is Anti gun, He is not , he is talking about how were parenting and raising our kids.
A lot of people want to disregard an artist's growth and want them to be consistent with a certain time frame.
Back at this time, Tom certainly absolutely was anti-gun. This is one of Tom's earlier songs from his first breakout album.
His thinking on the matter since however has evolved and he's become a big time Second Amendment supporter.
This isn't the only thing Tom has shown growth on over the years. His initial Coronavirus song is very different tone than what he would sound like later on the subject as more information came in and his opinion evolved.
We shouldn't make apologies no excuses for a snapshot into an artist's mind at a certain point in time that might disagree with where they are in the present. After all, those markers don't need to be reconciled; they stand as a testament in time of an artist's pwrsonal growth over the years.

Tom don't always talks in right or wrong. Sometimes he just wants to make us aware of things that we see as normal or harmless so that we think about it and maybe choose to be more mindfull about wat we do. So this song can make us aware and maybe want to be more carefull then we were before because Tom made us stop and think about it.

I don't have kids either, and while I wouldn't presume to tell/legislate how other parents bring theirs up, I do believe that I have enough common sense that allows me to know what is beneficial versus detrimental to properly raising children.
My father was not a great role model, but his example made it crystal clear to me what sort of father I would not want to be for/to my own children.
Honestly, he instilled such feelings in me that it wasn't until late last year that I finally broke free and decided that it would be a mistake not to marry and have children (as of February I'm 36).
As Dr. Jordan B. Peterson tells us: life is a worthwhile adventure to experience, and we do ourselves a terrible disservice by not partaking in it.

I was trained as a masters-level forensic scientist who specializes in investigations, so Heck yeah I watch a lot of murderers on TV. But Tom is talking about children seeing it. Big difference. Children don't differentiate fantasy from reality when they're young, and kids are now exposed to things they shouldn't at a very young age due to bad parenting. Tom is keeping it real ❤

Just to clarify my own stance, and that of many others, we don't think the shootings are the conspiracy to take guns away, it is the response to a shooting that is being used to try to take guns away. Shootings are horrific, especially when kids are involved, but shootings are immediately blamed on the tool and not the perpetrator. That is the conspiracy part.
I could rant for an hour on this subject, but back to the video.

You will find that a lot of Tom's songs that he put out years ago never seem to expire. They are as relevant today as they were when he released the song.
Tom has a special talent at knowing certain touchy subjects to rap about that will still be relevant many years down the road.

Please take into consideration that alot of time has gone by since Tom came to the U.S. and started his music journey. Tom's opinions and beliefs etc have evolved over time. If someone was to actually watch his videos in order from beginning to end, it would be so obvious. He says and does things in old videos that he would not do now. One example is the hand sign that looks like devil horns. When he did it, he meant it to stand for Hangovergang. When haters started saying he was satanic, he changed it to the hang loose sign with the thumb and pinkie out. There are alot more swear words in earlier music. When he realized how many of his fans are kids and so many families watch and listen together, he went through and censored most of his videos. He barely swears anymore in his music. When God Mode was about to drop he was proud that he only had to censor two or three words in a 8 minute song. Thats just a couple things that came to mind. In case you were wondering, Tom does believe in God and prays every day. He just doesnt like organized religion. You should watch a interview, the first one that comes to mind is Rosanne Barrs podcast. FYI The first video Nova recorded was "Politically Incorrect" Thanks, I am enjoying the journey. #HangOverGang
Tom's stance on subjects like gun control and politics has changed and evolved as he has grown and matured. My own views are different than they were just 5 years ago as I became more educated on them. I remember a Live Tom did 6 or 7 years ago where he said he didn't give a fuck about politics because it didn't affect him. Clearly, as he has matured, he now knows it absolutely DOES affect him. Everyone should be allowed to grow and change their viewpoints on things and Tom is no different.

I always see this as another sign of him struggling with the culture shock. He was new in America at this time. I feel like he was grappling with the American gun culture. He's come a long way in his point of view.

I feel like Tom has changed his views since this was made. He had a much more liberal mindset back then. His eyes have been opened to a lot of the BS since then. A lot of his older stuff is anti- conservative/Christian. As he has said many times, he made what the industry expected when he 1st started. After his breakdown, he grew up a lot.
Parents don't watch their children. They don't know what they're doing, where they are, or who they're with. Lock up the guns and teach kids to never touch a gun until or unless they are old enough to learn to shoot safely. I grew up in a place where men loved to hunt. We had unsecured guns at home but would never pick one up, even after we learned to shoot. My parents made that clear. Guns held no fascination for us.

If you listen to his more recent song Your America with Adam Calhoun you'll hear some of the same thoughts.
Being from a city in Canada, Tom hasn't always embraced the 2nd amendment. This came out before Brainwashed where Tom expressed his evolving beliefs.
Tom doesn't really ever say what HE specifically believes. What he does is explain the hypocrisy all around us. As he has said, he isn't left or right but he has taken the red pill because they are the ones that seem to be fighting the hardest for our rights.
For me, what this song represents is that we seem to always try to simplify extreme and very complex problems. We need to take a longer view of situations to try to find solutions. To see the forest for the trees.
In other early songs, Tom has said it's easier to buy a gun than get a job. If you are following the law, that is very far from the truth but paints a good picture. Bring a progressive to buy a gun and see if they think it's extremely easy after you return.
The problem's we have, as you alluded to, are problems of people and, as Tom stated, a loss of morals. They really aren't about the "gun". I think of it like this, the horrific Vegas shooting was perpetrated by a deranged individual with multiple guns and, likely, a bump stock or two (at distance that just made those guns less accurate). But what if we had removed all those guns from society? Would that have made him a happy man? Or, might he have loaded his plane (he had a small plane and was a pilot) with fuel and gas cans and then crashed into the middle of the crowd? Would less people have died then? Likely not but, maybe. We need to treat the mental illness disease and not some tool which isn't even a symptom of said disease. It's just a tool. If someone is intent on killing multiple people, they will use the tool they feel is best that is on hand. Until we stop people from wanting to cause this sort of damage, it won't matter if we ban one tool. They will just move on to another. If we can reach them and help their mental state, maybe they will not want to cause all that harm.

On the CD he has a remix of this one called Shooter. I think it’s a better version than this one. IMO
I actually don't like shooters either the fact of the matter is unarmed population means more of these events happen because there is nobody there that is what gun control people do not understand and by that I mean normal folks who are not with an agenda when you have an unarmed population that means everyone is at the mercy of any bad actor

Hope your interviews went well!! I don't know if you remember or know this, but someone from the liberal side once said...."never let a crises go to waste and if there is no crisis, create one." To never let a crisis go to waste is, for instance, a shooting tragedy where liberals immediately push for gun control and conservatives come back with 2nd Amendment arguments about it being the person, not the gun......the victims get lost and forgotten.. It's the second part of the statement "if there is no crises, create one" that the conspiracy issue comes into play. People I know, like me, believe many of the tragedies are literally 'created' in order to move an agenda forward....especially as it relates to gun control. Often we call these 'false flags' because the wrong people 'patsies'/country are blamed. We believe that often a certain type of drugged up, loner person/ 'patsies' (already long known by officials) are used to create a tragedy. I believe they are real tragedies, but 'false flags' where the 'patsies' are blamed and where real people die, but their deaths would be justified by thinking "moving the agenda forward is for the greater good of all". Those who plan and carry out these 'events/false flags' are very proficient in what they do and many believe the alphabet agencies are involved, because the event or crises could be so big that it even results in starting a wanted war....like the Gulf of Tonkin & Vietnam. Although you may already know all this....some of your viewers may not....just thought the explanation could be helpful.

This song was before he really broke out and became famous. He pointed out that the political songs are sometimes the hardest to write because the subject matter can be twisted in the meaning’s because we all can read into things based on our political views or upbringing. So these songs need fleshed out really clearly and he’s still rhyming throughout because it’s rap. I like the newer version on my album. I don’t think I had ever heard this version.

It is also important to keep an eye out to make sure your kids aren't the bully as well. If they bully sibs and friends and you there are chances they may need some help to learn how to be kind to others.
Also if siblings or parents are mean to their kids it may also cause a kid to be a bully to others.
