Singers usually sing lower(usually a few semitones, not octaves) when performing live so they don't force their voice since they have to perform for a few hours at a time
He transposes by a couple semitones to a different key so it's not as ridiculous to hit all the high stuff that it would be if it was in the same key as the studio album is.
Jeff The Shrimp well basically, if you’re on tour, you won’t be playing one show, you’ll be playing dozens and dozens of shows. If brendon were to sing it in the original key that many times, he would surely lose his voice or possibly even damage it. So they lower the key so it won’t wear out his voice as fast.
