Africans should know the history of The Tazara Railway, also called the Uhuru Railway or the Tanzam Railway. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TAZARA_Railway
The project was built from 1970 to 1975 as a turnkey project financed and supported by China. TAZARA was also the largest single foreign-aid project undertaken by China at the time, at a construction cost of US $406 million (the equivalent of US $2.83 billion today).
Ask the people of Tanzania and Zambia, did China ask for anything in return for helping to build that railway line? Did China debt trap them? Did China lay any condition before building that railway line?

I will need to look this up.
I love Africa (East). I have been going there since 1995.

Quite a number of Chinese Engineers and workers sacrificed their lives for the African Locals during the construction!! And at that time, Millions of Chinese themselves did NOT even have enough to eat! Yet, the Chinese gov. gave Millions for the African countries. And now Zambia shamelessly stands on the U.S. side, wants to default a lot of China's loans, but not the Westerners loan, this is truly truly unethical and shameless!!

Great discussion but I was hoping that there would have been some time given to FinTec or financial technology. Especially considering the impact that FinTec has on the continent through mobile pjones and also indicators pointing to the technology at lest providing a platform possibly to disrupt the traditional funding sector. Maybe a discussion on how this disruptive technology can be used to initiate changes in monetary policy on the African continent. And to that I'd add movement towards a Continental digital Currency using Block chain technology.

Thanks for listening. We really appreciate it. While I agree with you that there's been a lot of activity in the African fintech space this year, there was very little movement from Chinese stakeholders who were once very active in investing in early stage Nigerian fintechs.

And don't forget, when Africa becomes the 2nd largest economy in the world, Nato members will do the same as what they are doing to china again, hoping not even worst..

Africa must be developed ourselves not by America. Set up our own monetary system and fund out own development, stop talking Africa down

Stop over reacting to US change of foreign policy towards Africa. Give it time and it prove whether US is genuine. I sincerely hope that US is genuine for the sake of Africa but I have my reservation.

According to history, Zheng He the Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat, fleet admiral, and court eunuch during China's early Ming dynasty has arrived and set foot in Africa continent long before any White man from Europe. According history recorded, the Chinese ships carried hundreds of sailors on four decks and were almost twice as long as any wooden ship ever recorded.
But when the Chinese official Zheng He landed in Africa he was there to explore, looking for trade and building diplomatic relations with Africa countries. Although at that time the Chinese were strong and capable of colonize anyone, but the humble Chinese have never intended to do such evil.
Many decades later after the Chinese have arrived in Africa. Then came the White men from Europe have arrived too. But what the European done to Africa is very different from the Chinese. The first thing they have done is planted their nation flag on the Africa lands and claimed those lands are their and they colonized whatever they could. Any local disagreed that they are the colonial master and disobey their orders will be severely punish and deal with or even lost their lives. Google "Zheng He" if you are interested in history or to understand more.

You forgot One most important thing!! which is the slave trade from Africa to America continent. This is significantly much MORE EVIL than just the colonization. Asking how the White "masters" i.e. slave owners had treated those black slaves!
