Historically, Caffa was the place where the plague branched into Europe; it struck Asia prior to that, but it was at Caffa that the plague was brought to Europe. The Mongols were besieging the city (held by Genoa at that time), and they started catapulting dead plague riddled corpses into the city. However, because the Mongols weren't good seamen, they failed to blockade the port, which meant supply ships and refugee boats could easily travel in and out of the city. Guess what happen led nex- plague rats boarded the outgoing ships and hopped off after debarking in Italy and other Mediterranean ports; the rest is history.
Oh Jon. Killed the Mongols?I was so looking forward to a citadel . . . . wait, what the hell is he saying? . . . . . Oh joy, just what I wanted. You so know your fans
So when's the Aztec playthrough? It's pretty easy to edit the game files to make them viable in the vanilla game. The hardest part is making sure you can get boats from the Americas to Europe for a grand Aztec invasion.
Got to admit, I got really into the battle of Altdana. The fact that your stupid plan could have worked to that degree is... annoying and very enjoyable. Happy New Years, Jon. May this year be better then the last. And may you live in interesting times, you mad Englishman you.
Oh god... The heir succession... Those wives... The entire council... Even the doctor... **Vietnam Flashback** But atleast it kills my brother. But at the cost of the entire dynasty.
Jon! Flashing yellow banners mean the unit has been hit by a dead cow and is suffering moral penalties as a result. The third Mongol army was throwing cows at you, but it appears they only succeeded in shooting themselves.
I love the alternate history versions. I'm so glad that feature exists so we could see those battles that had been teased for so long. Thanks for the video!
This period in history seems to work so well for the Total War engine. I'd like to see a third instalment. They should work on improving the graphics, AI and depth of economy/diplomacy/tech/military. Make the game a challenge.
Alternative timelines with non veteran Mongols, I'd like to see what would have happened if they all had three silver chevrons as they do in reality. Nonetheless a great end to a year of a great content, happy new year and many thanks to you both and many purrs from Penwiper the cat who particularly enjoys WTW, she is fascinated by the wobbly ritual effects on the campaign map.
Jon, the flashing yellow flag indicates the unit has been poisoned. The Mongols were firing cow carcasses from their catapults and then walking into them.
Archers are god tier. Fun fact, studies have shown that until the late 19th century, crossbows and bows were still more accurate than rifles. It is speculated by some that the only reason rifles were used more is because of the fear that they induced, and the armor penetration. Until the from the medieval to now, how many wore real body armor? Occasionally, some wore chainmail, but it was rare. Even today, the armor that stops rifle rounds boarders on the impractical.
After seeing the alternate universe citadel battle, I honestly believe the ballista towers would've done better, unless the cannon morale penalty is massive.
Cannon towers work best against the timurids, because if they hit an elephant unit they will run wild immediately. I defeated an entire army with no losses once.
Defend against the same armies but in a minor city. I was able to do it in my first play through as Venice with an army of half miltia and half crusader/mercenary troops.
I am playing as Denmark I was defending a fortress and didn't realize till halfway through the battle That saved me, I sent half my men back and my faction leader somehow wiped out everyone.
-Four horsemen defeated the mongols -disease destroys the old world Well, Jon, I hate to say it but I think Denmark carries with it the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
Jon please check out if the armies in Spain march quicker without the cannons, I think that's what is slowing them down!!! Also have a Happy New Year damnit!
Norse archers, early game archers, fully capable of defeating 3 mongols army with mid-late game units! I knew Danes were strong defensively, but this is ridiculous!
Love the vids Jon I'm curious to see what newer historical total war game you will delve into next Ps I have a female cat named Jon partly because of you and also because of Jon snow
Your alternate universe siege isn't actually representative of the Mongols, sadly. The reason their units never break in the actual campaign is that they all spawn with 3 silver chevrons, except for the first 2 armies (one of which starts with 6 guys and is mostly irrelevant anyway).
challenge. everytime Jon says "yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" take a shot for each individual Yeah...oh you have to go through the whole series btw..good luck, if you end up in hospital..you've won!
Your first mock battle didn't accurately simulate what would have happened in a campaign battle vs the Mongols. All Mongol units in the campaign have 6+ xp chevrons making them virtually impossible to route. Ram crews would not have fled. Also, you didn't give any AI army a proper general (or unit without a secondary ability - thus the AI was unable to use the rally horn). Unlike you, the AI, and any good player, uses the rally horn to stabilize his army, especially vs cannon towers which cause moral problems.
"AI generals love being suicidal" says the guy who ran his general in front of his own artillery
Venetians: "Please don't hurt us, Caffa is one of the very few settlements we have left! Spare us our lives!"
Me: "Oh boo hoo, go Crimea river."
You have Jon’s approval, lol
title of next episode? lol
Boo. You should feel ashamed of yourself.
"I love the Black Death"-Jon, 2017/8(timezone dependent)
2018 (new zealand)
when the plague ends, please looks over the faction stat charts and show the hit the population took
The alternate universe Pope congratulates King Jon on his commanding victory against the bumbling Mongols!
King Jon the Unperceptive
"Its over Mongols, i have the high ground"- what i hoped jon would say
Bungi Booc don't try it, Khan. *Proceeds to charge up hill into artillery fire*
'Get's himself stuffed with arrows and cut down'
You underestimate my power
Bungi Booc ugh, prequels

The Spirit of Julianus Vetinius was with you for that first battle
Oh Jon. Killed the Mongols?I was so looking forward to a citadel . . . . wait, what the hell is he saying? . . . . . Oh joy, just what I wanted. You so know your fans
hannahalice1000 I was just thinking that exact thing.
Mongols: Hah! Now you are trapped in your castle with us!
Jon: I'm not trapped in here with you. You're trapped in here with me!
Mongols: NANI?!
So when's the Aztec playthrough?
It's pretty easy to edit the game files to make them viable in the vanilla game. The hardest part is making sure you can get boats from the Americas to Europe for a grand Aztec invasion.
Sunset Invasion!
Got to admit, I got really into the battle of Altdana. The fact that your stupid plan could have worked to that degree is... annoying and very enjoyable. Happy New Years, Jon. May this year be better then the last. And may you live in interesting times, you mad Englishman you.
I have been taking a hit every time Jon says "these guys" or "those guys" during a battle. I'm stoned off my ass and I'm only 8 minutes in!
I love this solution to “the Great Bumbling”
The yellow green flashing was from the trebuchet dead cows with plague, the unit was being affected by it.
That last fight was great. Wish it actually happened though. It would have been such a heroic victory.
Medieval 2: Battle of the Five-and-a bit Armies
The Black Death being a minor problem?
Think most CK2 players says that statement is adorable.
Happy Meme Farmer That's the joke.
Oh god... The heir succession... Those wives... The entire council... Even the doctor...
**Vietnam Flashback**
But atleast it kills my brother. But at the cost of the entire dynasty.
I'd love to see Jon play CK 2.
The alternate universe Mongols were breaking too fast, it seems they were lacking the experience of their normal reality counterparts.
Kel Woodbury yeah was thinking the same they always have minimum of 3 silver chevrons
There were also their generals that had really high dread levels.
Jon! Flashing yellow banners mean the unit has been hit by a dead cow and is suffering moral penalties as a result. The third Mongol army was throwing cows at you, but it appears they only succeeded in shooting themselves.
The high ground is strong with this one
The cliff battle was one of the most epic so far! I loved it, the Danes looked scary from the mongol point of view.
I love the alternate history versions. I'm so glad that feature exists so we could see those battles that had been teased for so long.
Thanks for the video!
One has to remember that in the Custom Battles, Jon did not change any experience on the soldiers.
Watching this episode in May 2020... Sure does reflect real life with that plague
3 months later and its worse
A year later and its still not great
We've come this far. You should do full map completion!
Oh god here we go again with jon and multiple alternate dimensions
The Mongols are dead at last!
- in the middle of the plague
- Timurids far scarier and on the way
Jon The flashing yellow is disgust I think you can see this with the dead cow fire for the trebaughshe
The think better than the catapult
Trebuchet.
This period in history seems to work so well for the Total War engine. I'd like to see a third instalment. They should work on improving the graphics, AI and depth of economy/diplomacy/tech/military. Make the game a challenge.
Happy new year Jon! Thanks for all the great videos all throughout the year!
I kind of want Jon to rename a city "Norse Archer Central".
Jon: CLAIRE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STAY INSIDE
Claire: It's just a rainstorm Jon!
Jon: Oh.
wonder if Jon will mop up the Egyptians now.

Jon says “The Black Death” like 30 times in under one minute lmao
Thank you for doing the alternate histories.
That was great
Wouldn't the correct term be Great Khan, not just Khan? I'm pretty sure that was the nomenclature for their version of an emperor/king of kings.
Khagan
nice uploading time m8 happy nice year tnx for your videos i really enjoyed the entire year luv u
SPESS MARIN
*Happy New Years Jon and Claire!*
The war wasn't won because you left the god damn pudding behind jon!
Love that you decided to go into the alternate universe mode 😁
Dude, I'm 5 years late to the party, but that was awesome!
Happy new year Jon and Claire ;)
After seeing the alternate universe citadel battle, I honestly believe the ballista towers would've done better, unless the cannon morale penalty is massive.
it seems the mongols were shooting rotten cow carcasses into the castle
Do total war napoleon next
has exhausted Norse Archers, tells them to run. -1 perception yet again
the flashing yellow flag means the unit has been hit by a rotting cow round from a trebuchet
Cannon towers work best against the timurids, because if they hit an elephant unit they will run wild immediately. I defeated an entire army with no losses once.

Well, Jon, I hate to say it but I think Denmark carries with it the four horsemen of the apocalypse.
Total domination Jon! I have loved every bit of this series. Glad to see you are continuing on. Make the Byzantines pay!
happy new years yall. this is the first video im watching. here's to a successful 2018!
Flashing yellow is sickness from the rotting cows ..
Take a drink every time Jon says "boom"
If only we had the alternate Adana seige, we would have Lasagna the 3rd
Happy New Years Jon
If you really want to fight the Mongols defend Antioch (Huge city, Ballista towers) against 4 stacks of them.
Rest In Peace for The Bumbling Mongols. 1212-1348. We will miss your bumbling around the Middle East, Not taking a single settlement.
Jon please check out if the armies in Spain march quicker without the cannons, I think that's what is slowing them down!!! Also have a Happy New Year damnit!
That battlefield at the start is a gift from Odin.......
By avenging Godfred, surely you don't mean to shoot this guy in the back
Doesn't the flashing yellow flag mean they've been hit by trebuchet carcass shot? Did they hit their own troops?
if you took the cannon out of the army to reinforce Leon it'd have arrived in time
Er...Jon, why don't your alternate reality Mongols have triple silver chevron experience?
Happy New Year everyone!
When the towers are destroyed and the archers are out of armour you could bring then back to the plasa
Mongol armies are almost always silver or gold xp and have God Tier Generals, so I'm not sure the test was useful.
It’s over Anakin! I have the high ground!
happy New year Jon
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Admiral Jon!?!?!?
Norse archers, early game archers, fully capable of defeating 3 mongols army with mid-late game units!
I knew Danes were strong defensively, but this is ridiculous!
That was amazing epic victory
When is the next episode coming out? This is a scream as well as very informative.
Jon's Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ftw!
well done jon!
I finished this a few seconds before midnight
Happy 2018 what a great way to end mine
It just became 2018 here
good video Jon
Happy 2018!
Love the vids Jon I'm curious to see what newer historical total war game you will delve into next Ps I have a female cat named Jon partly because of you and also because of Jon snow
That sure was fun !!!!
By the time this video ends it'll be 2018
start as i mean to go on: watching Jon
Let the Mongolians feel the Horde of the Danish Christian Crusaders!
you can still wipe out hordes by killing all the generals
CHINESE NEW YEAR ALREADY?!
Happy New Year everyone! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN
Suddenly I want Jon to play God Save The Queen.
Watching this in 2018
Happy New Year People

Only now does it occur to me that Jon constantly says "a bit o'trouble" when as an American, I expect him to say "a spot of bother".
