_"But you, have a Lord vessel to fill."_ ( ಥ_ಥ) That's genuine Prepare to Cry for you. But even for the series' high standards, this one hits you hard.
@@VoidSinister same this is fuckin deep shit how could any media journalist debunk games as being pointless, i mean look at this shit, its not some silly little game, this is a kindof story you'd hear praised if it was in a book form.
"Please sister, do not cry" Your undead may be evil, they may slaughter the innocent, steal their souls, and abuse the Firekeepers. But they still weep for the Fair Lady.
@@FlackBackTV Well, think about the fact that Firekeepers are basically just vessels for humanity. They absorb so much of it, having it constantly writhing within can't be pleasant. And the Fair Lady has her Blight affliction on top of that.
@@thisstatementisfalsenothin5312 The thing is that no Undead is guaranteed to die repeatedly. I would say the average one would probably only die once every month or so. And even at once a day, that's pretty bad, but compared to having a mass of humanity *constantly* writhing beneath your skin and trying to escape, that's pretty tame. Fire keepers would be grotesque, malformed creatures, much like the monsters we see in Oolacile (probably much, much worse) were it not for them being bound to their bonfire. Constant agony would definitely drive anybody insane, and the fact that all of the Firekeepers we meet are fairly lucid is honestly incredible.
The Fair Lady is the reason I find Quelaag to be one of the saddest fights in the game. Once you realize that she was trying to kill you so she could get your humanity to save her sister.
Personally I find sif to be the saddest especially if you save him in the dlc first because than sif recognizes you and the fight takes on a new context of sif fighting you in an attempt to protect you from the fait of artorias.
While Sif's death is sad, his motivation while good, assumes incorrectly. The Chosen Undead succeeds where Artorias failed. Whereas with Quaelagg there is no way to reconcile the issue peacefully. You need to Ring the Bell, and even if she let you do that peacefully, she wouldn't let you try and go kill Izalith without a fight.
Sif is waaaaay sadder. Then Ornstien (because he's too cool), then Artorias, maybe Gwyn (because of the music and how easy he is, I killed him without getting hit) and Pinwheel (the easiest boss in the game). I do not care when I kill Qualagg and The Fair Lady. I accidentally killed the fair lady in my evil ng+2 playthrough, so no Solaire for Gwyn :( That's the only reason I don't kill the Fair Lady sooner.
A intresting detail is that she says "quelaag please dont cry" implying that our chosen undead is rather sad meaning that our undead has affection for the fair lady
God dammit, i literally never knew about the corpses of Quelaana and the Fair Lady in Dark Souls 3 until this video and when you showed that and said “she finally found the strength to return home” I couldn’t hold the tears back
I knew it was the fair lady when I saw it but I thought it was the egg man that was next to her, i never put two and two together, it makes it even more sad now
If you get the chance, watch Hawkshaw's last lore video on Ash Lake and the rebellion against the gods. It seems, if Hawkshaw's speculation is correct (it is certainly convincing) that even many of the gods themselves turned on or abandoned Gwyn and Seath, probably because they realised the same.
@@mothsforeyes So maybe Pontiff didn't have the worst idea... I mean he was a major ass and a tyrant. But the God's held power through conflict as well.
The gods in Dark Souls were humans who mantled the throne that gods were meant to be seated upon. The demons were not made of fallen angels in this world, instead they were born of the chaotic flame created by the one who sought to extend their age. Our world and the world of Lordran are very different in this way, for all originated from humans in a way, rather than arising from those above. A shame, perhaps with the proper guidance their world may have survived.
DS3 was my first and only experience with the series, and the Old Demon King was cemented as my favorite fight. Near the end when he blew himself up and dropped to his knee I was confused that he didn't stand up again. Then when I approached I saw him go for his hammer and spam rolled away just to see him fail to lift it and go for a feeble swat. It really stuck with me. I looked around his arena finnaly noticing the mounds of dead demons. I had to know what happen. And that's what really got me into DS literally one optional boss that had a story to tell without showing any of it.
I start first on demon souls then ds2 and 3, bloodbourne amd finally ds1, i heard ds 1 is the best out of all games, so i saved it for last, but i kinda like bloodbourne better 😂, and yes at first it might seems like a normal hard rpg type of game but it is so much more than that, like finding quelana corpse in ds3 a year after i played it. This is why i love the series so much.
When a single, optional and even completely missable boss holds enough lore and story for it's own game. That's why I play dark souls, frustrating as all hell sometimes but can't be compared to other games in the rpg genre, it's in a tier of its own
She was probably certain that, out of all of her siblings, he was the one who absolutely *HAD* to have died in the invasion. Not just because of the unfortunate nature of his demonhood, but specifically because of his intense dedication to his sisters even through the pain it caused. After all, certainly someone who loved them (and her) so dearly would have been among the first fatalities when Gwyn's warmongering came to Izylith, in order to defend his beloved mother and sisters... ...Right?
@@TeodorAngelov The Gold-Hemmed set is found on the corpse on the altar. The description of the set states that it was once worn by Quelana of Izalith. It's unlikely that that is an error, as FromSoft is usually very meticulous about environmental storytelling.
Never noticed that detail with Quelanas Corpse curling up on her sister.. damn. These games and their stories.., and detail. I need more Dark Souls games, and more Vaati videos.
Honestly for all we know it could be the egg man. Does tge corpse have a bra? It could literally be anyone because its a generic item placement corpse.
I didn't notice immediately when I first played, but I had to do a double take when I picked the book up and started to walk away. I was like "Wait a second. Oh man, that's so sad." Quelana was my favorite character in DS1.
Not one tear from me.... Until now. If there is a Dark Souls 4 I'd like it to have much more of a hopeful tone to it. This suffering has to mean something more in the end than propaganda and ego.
I actually had to pause it at that point. I think it's lachrymose but as someone who was debilitated by guilt for 7 years I think it's also beautiful that she finally found peace in the end.
I thought Ceaseless Discharge was an imcomplete gimmick fight. Now I see he was just weak on purpose, because he was holding on for dear life to not burn in lava. That really changes my perspective of the fight. _Bed of Chaos is still shit though_
Yeah mechanically the Bed of Chaos is shit. Its not hard, its just annoying, especially if you are not fastrolling. And it doesnt feel fulfilling at all because the lore of Izalith is really subtle even compared to the "average" DS lore... Everything is quite misleading to make you think demons are just mindless monsters and chaos flame destroyed Izalith. The dragon butts and the generic unfinished/rushed feel of the whole area doesnt help either.
@@manguy01 I actually fought it in my blind playthrough and thought it was imcomplete, because he has 2 attacks, and both of them look bad with poor effects and erratic animations. It's really below Dark Soul's standards.
@@marcshimpar7645 Honestly, i always found it weird that so many Demons were serving Gwyn until Vaati brought up the possibility that those demons were spoils of Gwyn's Black Knights during their war on Izalith. That actually explains a shockingly lot since the Black Knight gear stated that they fought chaos demons, which seems contradictory to the fact that so many are serving in labor roles in Lothric, until it becomes apparent that they're prisoners of war.
You're right that they were silver knights. However, they were actually scorched by Gwyns flame in the Kiln. The item descriptions are very poor on this in english
It might be a little dramatic but everytime I pass through the smoldering lake in a new playthrough I always pay my respects to the fair lady by leaving a message with the prayer gesture. It's just become part of the routine I follow in new playthroughs now
Eingyi speaks so humbly about himself, and especially in regards to the Fair Lady, and even sharing his flame with you... such a likable sort, despite his grotesque appearance, so seeing 15:34 and that masterful editing... Christ, my fucking heart - the hurt from the betrayal in his voice, the fact he tries so desperately in vain to move his decrepit parasitic host of a body to stop the Chosen Undead, how failing that he cries out to the sickly Fair Lady, which is a helpless and gut-wrenching desperate act in itself as no matter how he cries out, she cannot understand his words, and in her blindness she can't even see what's happening right before her, and lastly, his despair at her death... The last 5 minutes of the video is such a huge payoff of pure melancholic bliss, and I see a lot of comments feeling for the Children of Chaos, something I don't fault them for, but Eingyi was the one that really hit me like a truck. Peter Marinker is a splendid voice actor.
He broke the cycle, first dragons and grey crags, then it was Gwyn and his age of fire's turn after which it should have been humanity and its age of darkness. But no Gwyn put a ring of fire on humanity, walled off the pygmy Lords and off he went to burn his own ass to prolong his own age...

I had always assumed that the corpse Ceaseless Discharge is mourning over was another Daughter of Chaos. I thought Miyazaki purposely put 7 of them in the game to match the opening cutscene. Those 7 being Quelaana, Quelaag, The Fair Lady, the two that are part of the Bed of Chaos, the dead one Ceaseless Discharge is mourning, and the one that attacks you outside of the Bed of Chaos.
100% agreed as well. It always bothers me that most people don't know/remember that the bed of chaos is not just the Witch of Izalith, and that the 2 orbs we break were what remains of 2 of her daughters. Like in lore videos from other channels before ds3s dlc came out theorizing that yuria and her 2 siblings who founded the sable church were the remaining daughters of Izalith, thinking there is 3 missing or unaccounted for. Drives me nuts lol. There are 6 daughters in the game. That is a fact, no theorizing. Qualagg, the fair Lady, the one who attacks you outside the boss room, the 2 in the BoC, and Quelana. What we dont know is if that corpse with the the gold hemmed set is the 7th sister, or Quelanas, as the item description specifically says the set was worn by Quelana. My theory, is that there are only 6 in the game. Quelanas opening dialogue always struck me as strange.."a mere undead, yet you can see me". What does that mean? To me, ive always took that as a hint that that is not Quelana, not in physical flesh and blood at least. I always will believe that who we see and talk to is Quelanas spirit/ghost, as she died long ago, and that is her corpse with the gold hemmed set being watched over by CD. So where is the 7th sister? I dont know. I dont think shes in game, and do to how Izalith was really rushed due to time constraints, i believe Miyazaki might of planned for her to be there in the game, but they just didnt have time. My personal theory? The 7th daughter is the centipede demon. it seems that the further from the Chaos Flame they were, the less hideously transformed they were. This is why Quelana seems normal (even if who we talk to is her spirit, it is specifically stated that she got out before things went completely crazy. Quelagg still has her top half as human, and her lair is further from Izalith. Same with the fair lady, who also seemed to be similiar to Quelagg, but due to her sickness, we cant tell whats from the chaos flame and whats from the disease. The 2 sisters and Witch of Izalith were obviously the closest, as they have not a trace of humanity anymore, and are full on abominations. And the one outside the boss room could have "survived" like Quelana did, and came back to watch guard over her mother and sisters. So was the 7th daughter closer to the Chaos that she became the centipede demon, further away from her mother and 2 sisters who have no real form, and closer than Quelagg and the fair lady, whos top halves survived and only the bottom halves were disfigured? Leaving her as jusy a full on demon, who also watches over the demon ruins/Izalith, as we can see her (it) clinging to the wall from the Demon Ruins. That's my take I know that does clash with the design works interview where Miyazaki said they originally had the centipede demon fight where the bell gargoyles are on top of the undead parish church, until they came up with the idea of the gargoyles, but we dont know how early on in developement that was, and after placing the gargoyles the centipede demon defintely could have been placed where it is as Miyazaki could have thought out this idea and placed it accordingly. Just a thought. God damn do i love Souls lore lol
@@JTisOneCrazyMan20 You already forget, the Centipede Demon was born from the spot where the Orange Charred fell Ring when Ceaseless Discharge dropped it. And according to the ring's description, he was born a malformed demon 'since his sores were inflamed by lava from birth.' Which means that at the time of the cutscene where the Izalith & her daughters had gathered to create the Chaos Flame, Ceasless Discharge was not yet born. In any case I digress. My point is that the simplest explanation is easier, that the corpse guarded by Ceaseless Discharge really is the 7th daughter of Chaos. It just takes a bit more reasoning than imagination to explain. Vaati did mention that Quelana faked her death, but there isn't anything implicit of her taking such a course of action. It could be she simply left. Also because that was a hella amazing video & telling it that way is within Vaati's artistic liberties. Anywho, taking that cutscene into account, it's quite obvious that the 2 sisters flanking Izalith became the mounds that also flank the Bed of Chaos, as the transformed staves jutting out from them would indicate. In all likelihood, that would mean that the next closest sisters were Quelaag & the Fair Lady as they are not so grotesquely transformed themselves. This leaves the last 3 sisters unaffected; the hostile pyromancer, Quelana who wanders the poisonous swamp, & the dead sister. Considering that this dead sister's corpse lies in front of Ceaseless Discharge, she is likely the one mentioned in the description of the Orange Charred Ring, the witch who enchanted it against lava. Since that ring was hers but she gave it to her brother & he dropped it, lava spewed out from him, & without the ring to protect her, the 7th sister lost the 'floor is lava' game while her parasite could have become the Centipede Demon. This sad turn of events likely convinced the 2 remaining sisters against accepting parasites of their own & becoming demons themselves. On one hand, Quelana was so appalled by what had happened, so fearful of the Chaos Flame, she wanted to get away. After swaddling her dead sister in one of her fire resistance garb so that their brother could watch over her corpse without damaging it too much, she fled as Gwyn & his Black Knights came to Izalith, bringing war. On the other hand, the last non-demon sister guards their mother, being braver than Quelana. And Quelana really is alive & not a ghost. If she were dead, they would have made it apparent like with Chancellor Wellager being a ghost. Not to mention you can hit her & kill her. The fact that you can only see with a flame upgraded to at least +10 means she was using a personal pyromancy to conceal herself, and only when you get better with pyromancy will you be able to see her.
PaszerDye ahh yes you are correct, completely forgot about the Centipede Demon being created from Ceaseless and the ring! My bad. But i stick by the rest of my comments! Lol
I always thought that the corpse of with the bed of chaos maggot was the witch of izalith. I mean, it does look like the two sisters are forced to be connected to the bug
Your best video so far! Truly shows how tragic and misunderstood the chaos and its demons are, something that is very easy to miss if you do not pay very close attention in a casual playthrough.
Izalith is such a depressing place, all the people there suffer in pain and torment, wether lamenting over a “dead” sibling, trying to keep her remaining sibling alive, being that remaining sibling, blind and in pain unable to tell any voices apart, having to be fed people’s humanity just to stay alive, and even the mother, bent, twisted broken in pain, in a horrible humiliating condition only to keep the flame alive and under control, only to have some random fuck off undead stroll in and out an end to their misery, I’d feel more for these people if their area wasn’t such ass.
@Subhan Most irritating creatures in the game. Lots of civilizations throughout the Cycles of Kindling have tried to replicate the Dragons. I suppose when the Bed of Chaos gave it a go all that came out was a giant butt xD Maybe that's what got to Gwyn. He was thinking "damn, we're good. We killed all them Dragons..... WHAT ARE THOSE?!" The Old Chaos of Eleum Loyce was my favorite tale of the Chaos. A powerful king basically built his kingdom on top of a portal just to personally watch and contain the Chaos. The only reason I’m not sleeping, is because I’m getting sighns of sleep paralysis so I’m like, “Yeah no screw this, I’m just gonna stay up until everyone else is up, then go to sleep, if I still have sighns, I’m going to stay up then”
18:15 I like how the Dark Souls 3 easter egg means completely different things based on what you did to the Fair Lady in Dark Souls 1. If you didn't kill the Fair Lady for the firekeeper's soul, then Quelana and her probably spent their last days togther and that serves as sort of a redemption for Quelana. But if you killed her, then Quelana came back home just to find the corpse of everyone in her family, which probably caused more guilt. Danm From Software!
"Remember, fear the flame lest you be devoured by it and lose yourself. I'd hate to see that happen again" I'll always remember this line from Quelana and the original lore vid

Lore wise the chosen undead did not kill the fair lady. He helps her with humanity and goes through the secret pass getting a high rating with her faction affords. He saves solaire (who goes on to sacrifice himself to light the kiln for another age) while the undead himself abandons it. THe white lady is eventually visited by her sister, and they stay together until they both eventually pass away.
@@tenjenk The entire timeline of Dark Souls starts crashing when the age of fire starts ending. Everything is both canon and not canon at the same time
Mackie Messer There isn’t. But people say that if you save Solaire, and summon him at Gwyn’s fight, supposedly it was his passion and fire within himself that lit the flame, if your character doesn’t light the flame him/herself. Of course, this isn’t true at all, it’s just fan fiction. It’s not canon that Solaire is saved anyway. He becomes the carthus sandworm in DS3 I believe.
This is why I love Dark Souls, they don't shove the sadness in your face, you gotta find it, but once you do, you can never look at these bosses the same way. Much like how our first time we saw that scary but sexy spider monster but after we learned the story, everytime we go back, we see a Sister, desperately trying to save her blind, dying sister. It's powerful
Okey, So what gwyn did so far is - - cursed humans with his seal of fire. - fxxked up ring city and the life of his daughter (+ poor ringed kights who just got their powers band even tho they helped gwyn with his fight against dragons) - banished his son - made his other son a cross dresser Since there is no ‘official’ complete story line in dark souls, only how you take them and interpret them is what matters... my next statement can be argued whether it’s true or not. But gwyn is a whole lot of ass
Gwyn never banished his son, his son was banished after Gwyn’s departure from Anor Londo. In all likelihood, the Firstborn departed on his own accord, and Gwyndolin tried to eliminate him from history in order to ensure the reputation of Anor Londo remains high.
@@OldManMcLoyf pretty sure gwyn did banish his son, although i don't think his son was banished in general. Pretty sure he just betrayed gwyn and sided with some of the last few ancient dragons and gwyn got rid of any evidence of his existence after that. Also even if there isn't always an official right story with dark souls, gwyn being a dick is one of the few things that is. He did a lot of bad shit just because he wanted to keep his power, and there's no really good reason for it in the dark souls lore outside of gwyn just being selfish and cowardly. Not to mention, gwyn's greatest sin which started the cycle is definitely miyazaki saying that yeah gwyn fucking sucks.
What if You were looking back on your life and realized after running a successful business you hurt and affected lots of people around you. There's no way to say sorry and can't bring yourself to admit the horrible tragedies that came from you. So you make a game and since it's your game you picture yourself the way you are currently, an old man somewhere alone, decreased from after your life of greatness. Maybe surrounded by lots of people currently running your business in nice black suits. You reflect on each of the businesses and mergers over the years, people that lost their jobs, and the geat creations your firm was responsible for. You reflect on your family and how your oldest son had gone to work for a rival company. Now it's so remorseful, but back then you severed ties because of his betrayal. @@Zer0cul0 so basically you saying creating ruin all around you and leaving in it is ok, huh? That's not how our world or any other would work where society exists. Also you trying compare boss like figure to king like figure(aka much more responsibility and as is consequences).
Another perspective, bouncing off these ideas in this video:since we know that at ONE point chaos flame *was* unstable at one point, what if the reason the witches of Izaleth were able to stabilize the it was because the mother and 2 of her daughters had no choice but to sacrifice themselves TOO the bed of chaos, forever existing within it to keep it in control and stabilized? If they are trapped in an eternal existence of controlling the chaos, maybe it IS hell. Maybe we are putting them out of their misery.
I thought that was the most direct implication one could get from the game, the structure of the arena and the red warding magic we see seem to suggest that it was a last ditch effort to stem the tide of chaos and that all the demons we see in Izalith are what seeps through- and that the seal is weakening, since demons start exploring into areas further afield. The undead merchant's dialogue suggest that Capra and Taurus are recent arrivals in undead burg and lower undead burg, recent invaders specifically.
man this.... this is a complete 180 on the original theory crafted, and I kinda like that. Despite how old this game is lore is still being ripped apart and trying to be understood.
I felt such sadness when I first saw the extinguished Stray Demon in Dark Souls 3. A sense of "oh what's become of you, old friend". Choas was always one of my favorite parts of Dark Souls. It starts seemingly like a buch of ravenous, savage beasts and then you realize they are a whole culture grasping to survival like the gods and freedoms like the humans, and are both dicked over by humans and gods (which I'm not considering that makes them innocent or anything, since every kind dick each other over in this universe all the time with the gods being the dickiest).
Ok, this might`ve been your best work so far. I literaly cried on this one. OMG those camera works were just PERFECT (also, how you managed to jump over the bed of chaos bridge from a lateral vision is just sick hehe) I can`t imagine how hard this might`ve been for you, and I only can thank you for all this. I mean, From Soft told us that a well-made world does not need written history to be understood. And your interpretation of the game is just amazing and inspiring. I mean, From Soft created the Lore, but its beauty came alive with you. Thanks a LOT. Also, I loved the way you managed to include Dark Souls 2 on this. I'm looking foward for more of this. Its really a challange to relate DS2 story to DS1/DS3. Until next video!
Of all of your video Vatti this is the one i come back to the most. The music, the storytelling, the editing. Its a masterpiece among a catalogue of outstanding work. RIP Quelana and Fair Lady.
It's amazing how they have created stories and characters like those which people like me would have never known a thing without people like you. Thank you a lot Vaati
Survivor's guilt is rough. And the damage it can cause is so insane and probably unforeseen. As someone who picked the Old Witch's Ring as their starting gift on their first playthrough, and then listening to The Fair Lady after killing Quelaag, I always wished there was something more we could do. Even with my infinite love for Solaire, I still always join the Chaos Servants, if nothing else than to repent for what I was forced to do to get there. If only we could give Quelana the courage - one way or another. Maybe we could have been given Izalith's Lord Soul since we know such acts are possible in some way- without the need for killing, since Gwyn had shared parts of his Soul to multiple people.
Please keep doing these, my Girlfriend is playing Dark Souls on Switch right now and is pretty invested in the story. I can't wait to show her these remastered videos after she finished the game :) thanks
Yeeeeeah, when she finally complete all these horrible atrocities, THEN we show her what an awful human being she rEaLy is, khe-he-he-he. ...Well, at least it would be an emotional moment :)
AND IT WASN'T EVEN NECESSARY!! Quelana still thanks and rewards you if you leave the Fair Lady alive, the ones she want you to kill are Quelaag, Ceaseless Discharge, that one hostile sister whose name I forgot and the Bed of Chaos. There is no actual need to kill the Fair Lady at all! I swear, Vaati did that just for feels effect, though I still think that could've easily been accomplished without killing her! After all, without Quelaag, Kirk or even the Chosen Undead around, the Fair Lady just doesn't have much time to live anyway. It would've been beautifully tragic if Quelana finally decided to come back, found the Fair Lady in her terminal state and, grief-wrecked, decided to spend her last days with her last sister... even after she would eventually die. I mean, just imagine. The Fair Lady dies eventually, no matter what. And yet, instead of leaving, Quelana stays there... until the end.
Well, we don't know for SURE that Quelana came to her before she died. She may have curled up next to her corpse. However, all of the Sisters and the Witch herself found peace eventually. The kind of absolute peace offered only by death.
I think the story of the demons and chaos flame is straight up the saddest and most cataclysmic story arc in all of souls. Their people are left to burn out ever so slowly, never to ignite again. All hope is truly lost. Thank you so much for the work you do ❤️
that last sentence....she finally found the strength to return home... this was the sentence that affected me the most, i never played DS1 and it'S really nice to know so many details about the story from the game, thank you for everything you do vaati
In a nutshell, I've learned that Gwynn was even more of an asshole. I pitied him once but now I can only see him for the fool that he was. His attempt at turning himself into kindling for the flame was a failed attempt at repentance. No matter what he did, he did it arrogantly and foolishly. Nobody better to instigate a series like this I suppose...
I think there's no actual proof that demon wars took place before Gwyn's sarifice. I'd rather think that they were preemptive measure of stopping Izalith from taking over power from Anor Londo after creation of Bed of Chaos and after Gwyn was gone.
@@Kr10n1 Gwyn took the Black Knights with him to the Kiln of the First Flame, and their armour was scorched black by the Flames of Chaos. So the wars had to have happened first
@@Tlouman01 "Shield of the Black Knights that wander Lordan. A flowing canal is chiseled deeply into its face." "Long ago, the black knights faced the chaos demons, and were charred black, but their shields became highly resistant to fire."
Why did Gwyn go to war? IMO it was because at that time Chaos was not in control. Which IMO is also implied in Quelana's dialogue, "but she failed to control it. The Flame of Chaos engulfed Mother and my sisters, and moulded them into deformed creatures" I liked this remaster better than the Artorias one.
@@takezokimura2571 Most likely. The timescale I'm thinking of going by lore, Vatti and Hawkshaw is, Chaos Flame is created > Izalith grows to a prosperous city > Chaos Flame gets out of control resulting in a war with Gwyn and horrible mutations > Quelana takes to the chance to escape under the impression that her family are now nothing but monsters > Somehow the Flame is brought back under control and the pact is established.
My belief is that Gwyn's definition of control and Izalith's definition of control differed. Izalith was able to restrain Chaos significantly, mutating herself and her children, but restricting the spawning of demons to a trickle and preventing the roiling inferno we see under Eleum Loyce, and believed that was sufficient. Gwyn, however, has shown that he believes only in absolute control, and that because Chaos wasn't fully contained, it could not be considered contained at all, and had to be destroyed. Quelana could not see past the horrific forms of her family, and believed they were lost. The black knights probably battled their way through the city of Izalith until they reached The Bed of Chaos itself, where they discovered two truths: that it was not within their power to destroy Chaos, and that truly containing Chaos could not be done. So they forged a pact, where the city of Izalith and the Bed of Chaos would be allowed to remain, and in return, demons would not leave the ruins of Izalith unless to serve directly under Gwyn. Gwyn probably made increasing use of demons as guardians as it became clear that many of his other servants were not immune to the curse of undeath, while the demons were, as they were born of a different flame. This had been Gwyn's approach to many other insurmountable foes, and it worked perhaps the best it ever had in this case. Until his very own machinations led an undead to slay Izalith and claim her soul, releasing the fury of Chaos again. But this time, there would be no soul great enough to contain it.
I still join the Chaos Servants every single playthrough, at least long enough to offer what humanity I can. I always feel so guilty for taking away the Fair Lady’s last remaining source of comfort I really wish Izalith wasn’t such a colossal disaster of game design. It really deserves so much better. The story of the Witch and her daughters is a real tearjerker

I'd say the undead are more abused then fire keepers. Gwyn is a dumbass, and an asshole.
@@FlackBackTV Well, think about the fact that Firekeepers are basically just vessels for humanity. They absorb so much of it, having it constantly writhing within can't be pleasant. And the Fair Lady has her Blight affliction on top of that.

Fire keepers would be grotesque, malformed creatures, much like the monsters we see in Oolacile (probably much, much worse) were it not for them being bound to their bonfire.
@@LordandsaverGarryBuecy That's fair.
Sif is waaaaay sadder. Then Ornstien (because he's too cool), then Artorias, maybe Gwyn (because of the music and how easy he is, I killed him without getting hit) and Pinwheel (the easiest boss in the game).

Demons are always closer to humans gods and Angel's have ego problems
Try DS1. Warping only becomes available midgame, which encouriged the great interconnected world design.
When a single, optional and even completely missable boss holds enough lore and story for it's own game. That's why I play dark souls, frustrating as all hell sometimes but can't be compared to other games in the rpg genre, it's in a tier of its own

This would make more sense to me.
That's my take
I know that does clash with the design works interview where Miyazaki said they originally had the centipede demon fight where the bell gargoyles are on top of the undead parish church, until they came up with the idea of the gargoyles, but we dont know how early on in developement that was, and after placing the gargoyles the centipede demon defintely could have been placed where it is as Miyazaki could have thought out this idea and placed it accordingly. Just a thought. God damn do i love Souls lore lol
@@JTisOneCrazyMan20
You already forget, the Centipede Demon was born from the spot where the Orange Charred fell Ring when Ceaseless Discharge dropped it.
Do you think that Gwyn changed his mind during the war when he realised that the demons were actually not horrible and mindless creatures?
Izalith is such a depressing place, all the people there suffer in pain and torment, wether lamenting over a “dead” sibling, trying to keep her remaining sibling alive, being that remaining sibling, blind and in pain unable to tell any voices apart, having to be fed people’s humanity just to stay alive, and even the mother, bent, twisted broken in pain, in a horrible humiliating condition only to keep the flame alive and under control, only to have some random fuck off undead stroll in and out an end to their misery, I’d feel more for these people if their area wasn’t such ass.

The Old Chaos of Eleum Loyce was my favorite tale of the Chaos. A powerful king basically built his kingdom on top of a portal just to personally watch and contain the Chaos. A lot like the Black Knights, the Loyce Knights got burned and charred which consumed them entirely. The King met that same fate. It was easily one of my favorite Dark Souls moments when that final gate opened and the Ivory King stepped out in flames.

*Sees 18:06
Me: Oh gawd, here they come...
I swear, the lore for Dark Souls makes me want to play it less because I don’t want to make the choices to kill them, especially Sif and the Fair Lady
You dont have to kill the Fair Lady though. Unless you want an extra firekeeper soul you cant wait for until the next ng+.
@@tenjenk what evidence is there that solaire lit the fire?
When the fair lady said “no it does not hurt terribly” that HIT
Okey, So what gwyn did so far is -
- cursed humans with his seal of fire.
- fxxked up ring city and the life of his daughter (+ poor ringed kights who just got their powers band even tho they helped gwyn with his fight against dragons)
- banished his son
- made his other son a cross dresser
Since there is no ‘official’ complete story line in dark souls, only how you take them and interpret them is what matters... my next statement can be argued whether it’s true or not.
Gwyin is the ultimate ass in the souls lore.
And here you are "Gwyn, Lord of Cinder".
@@Zer0cul0 so basically you saying creating ruin all around you and leaving in it is ok, huh? That's not how our world or any other would work where society exists. Gwyn is just the way to show how it should NOT be a ruller or the person who responsible for the world around you.
Very appreciated comment, I'm with you.
The undead merchant's dialogue suggest that Capra and Taurus are recent arrivals in undead burg and lower undead burg, recent invaders specifically.
that wouldnt really work with the demons having priests and language

There is no actual need to kill the Fair Lady at all! I swear, Vaati did that just for feels effect, though I still think that could've easily been accomplished without killing her! After all, without Quelaag, Kirk or even the Chosen Undead around, the Fair Lady just doesn't have much time to live anyway. It would've been beautifully tragic if Quelana finally decided to come back, found the Fair Lady in her terminal state and, grief-wrecked, decided to spend her last days with her last sister... even after she would eventually die.

Why did Gwyn go to war? IMO it was because at that time Chaos was not in control. Which IMO is also implied in Quelana's dialogue,
"but she failed to control it. The Flame of Chaos engulfed Mother and my sisters, and moulded them into deformed creatures"
I liked this remaster better than the Artorias one.
Could it be that the "pact" was made after the Witch managed to control the flames?
@@takezokimura2571
Most likely. The timescale I'm thinking of going by lore, Vatti and Hawkshaw is,
Chaos Flame is created > Izalith grows to a prosperous city > Chaos Flame gets out of control resulting in a war with Gwyn and horrible mutations > Quelana takes to the chance to escape under the impression that her family are now nothing but monsters > Somehow the Flame is brought back under control and the pact is established.
16:30 "despite the mother's feeble attempts to swat us" That shit killed me every single time
