  • Another Haruki Murakami review is up on this channel! Really looking forward to the time when I get to talk about all of his books. In this video, I talk about his latest release, The City and Its Uncertain Walls.
This one felt more contemplative than profound. But it’s always nice to come home to Murakami, isn’t it? His words feel strangely comforting and familiar. How he connects themes of memory, time, identity, dreams, love, and the blurred lines between reality and the surreal.
Whether you’re a seasoned reader of his words or just curious about his most recent release as a good gateway into his magical realism, this book is definitely worth reading no matter where you are in your reading journey. It’s light, contemplative, and melancholic.
    Books mentioned:
    1. Kafka on the Shore - Haruki Murakami
    2. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle - Haruki Murakami
    3. Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World - Haruki Murakami
    Film mentioned:
    1. Taste of Cherry - Abbas Kiarostami

    Dear Ayesha,
What I love about your reviews is that you capture the essence of the book so beautifully. You talk about the various philosophical ideas relevant in the prose, which most people watching your videos are unaware of. I know you love reading philosophical texts.
I love the vocabulary you use to articulate those ideas. Also, I loved the last para from the prose you shared.
I have shared this a couple of times with you that I am not much of a Murakami admirer but that might be because I have just read Norwegian Wood. I mentioned in your Norwegian Wood video how you provided me with a different perspective about the book. Hopefully, some time I will re-read that book. But, before that, I think you have convinced me enough to read this one.
    I love your content.

Your words always make me smile, thank you so much Kanika. So thoughtful and kind.
Honestly, this one feels a whole lot different than Norwegian Wood. I think you'll like this one. Norwegian Wood is perhaps more famous now for its polarizing reviews, but I'm glad to know that my perspective might have offered something new for you.
I hope you like reading The City and Its Uncertain Walls. I most certainly did. It's so light-hearted and sincere. It has a different Murakamian vibe to it, in all the good ways.

Your channel is my favorite truck with meditative content. And I'm a little jealous that the book was published in english, I understand english well, but I'll be waiting for the russian edition.

Really enjoyed your thoughtful review. It reminded me of Stoner by John Williams, I loved the book for its quiet exploration of life's struggles and resilience. Interestingly, I found a subtle parallel between Stoner and the movie Perfect Days-both beautifully capture the profound in the ordinary. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Stoner and also the Movie perfect days..

Stoner is a beautiful book that explores the quiet moments of life, it really resonated with me too. I didn't connect that with Perfect Days though. But it makes so much sense! I'm yearning to read Stoner again soon. Will do! :)

I was sent a copy by Penguin India. I've only ever seen hardcover copies of it in bookstores. Never came across a paperback one.

@saintpablo5594 Yes, I had no plan to read that book I picked it up suddenly on my recent visit to the book market. I have known about the movie since its release and was quite surprised to find it as the first story.
