    -------------------------
Words are not enough to thank you Elise & Amber and all the Railyard Performance Center community for all the love that you’ve shared with us. With gratitude 🙏

    HISTORY
The Yanvalou dance is part of the rite and rhythm of RADA, one of the most important in Haiti,
corresponds to the Aradas that come from the Dahomay (Benin, West Africa).
    DANCE
The movement of Yanvalou is uid. It involves the backbone, the base of the head; the chest,
the sacred plexus; and the pelvic belt. With complete relaxation, there is no tension or rigidity
of the muscles, but a constant circular ux that acts as a mental narcotic and a nervous catharsis.
The dance is resolutely amollissante, rather than exciting ...(DUNHAM Katherine, the
Haitian dance, Paris, Fasquelle Publishers, 1950, 121 p). The Yanvalou, is the movement of the
Snake (Animal/totem), which represents the symbol of intelligence and intuition. It is a dance
of an energy game between the physical and spiritual body that allows good circulation of
cerebrospinal uid in the spine that holds the balance of our being. (PIERRE BEAUBRUN Mimerose,
anthropologist/essayist price of the test of the exhibition of the Island Book 2011,
    CO/founder of BOUKMAN EKSPERYANS)
    VODOU
Yanvalou is aliated with the color white, and its water elements refer to the Loa * Damballah/
Aida Wèdo (two snakes that are intertwined by the tail, whose heads meet at the top
around an egg as seen in the Vèvè *) representing the feminine as well as masculine principles
(the two opposite forces that complement each other). Damballah/Aida Wèdo symbolizes
fertility, harmony, mercy and deep knowledge of oneself. Damballah is associated with Christian
Moses and Saint-Patrick , and Aida with Notre-Dame de l'Immaculée-Conception, Mami
    Wata.
Loa * or Lwa : invisible Power, mysterious energy.
Vèvè * : is a kind of symbol corresponding to the house of a Loa, drawn to the ground with
corn our or wheat, ash, chalk etc
