It's good that real pilots are talking about these things. Average person has no clue about most of these issues and thus are ignorant about the activity of flying aircraft. Along with air traffic controllers and aspects that complicate flying like Inclimate stormy weather.

The trauma from the passengers applies to any trauma most people can relate to. I testify with them that life stops and you're not ok after a serious traumatic life changing moment. It's frustrating when people who have never been through this tell you to get over it.
After watching a bunch of these air disaster shows, I'm a little desensitized because I'm watching this lady saying "our lives stopped in that moment" and I'm thinking "you didn't even plummet 6000ft a minute towards the ocean or explode upon landing, drama queen."
The other couple of statements that the captain made that alerted me not just the one about them droning around was, “I can’t see it” and “I don’t know.” You don’t want to hear that from your captain. And then you have the air traffic controller who complains to the captain and first officer saying that their “equipment for the (weather) was better than his. I mean didn’t any of them, e.g., captain, first officer, or ATC didn’t review the weather reports?About the money issue, any lawsuit is about money but it’s also about change.
the best thing about the modern day is we have simulators that you can conjour any and all known situations and train the future pilots how to solve them.
It's not a hazard because airplanes are supposed to be on the runway. If you believe those are hazards when they're off the runway then everything at the airports are hazards and should be removed including the control tower 😂
Right? Who thought it was a good idea to put a giant metal catwalk inline of a runway, knowing things like this could happen? That’s why airports should have flat and undeveloped land around them. If that was the case there might’ve not been any fatalities on this flight.
@@chumbawaumbacumpa The reason why they're there is because airports won't leave them out due to a 1 in a multi million chance that the plane will crash off the runway.
In Florida here, yeah, we have some bad weather. It happens when it happens. My last bad weather day was leaving out of Bradenton out to the Gulf of Mexico on a beautiful sunny day when the sky turned dark and a storm came on us. A 33’ sailboat moving slowly when a storm came out of nowhere. A 600’ tanker disappeared in the rain by Tampa and we were headed north. We made it. Anchored in Tarpon Springs. That is a southern storm!
I was actually going to try to figure out who he is. This is the 3rd time I have watched this particular episode, and always thought that actor was phenomenal. Thanks for the info!
1. Did the pre-landing checklist get interrupted as to not arm the Spoilers? Should the avionics speak NO SPOIL when the WOW switch is compressed when the Spoilers are not engaged/armed? 2. Do Spoilers have any effect if the plane is sliding partially sideways? 3. No Plan B. Plan B was going around into the storm and they ran out of minimums? Nawh. BUG OUT man!
Didn't this "bowling alley" effect happen in some other southeastern airline? I remember the Mayday episode starts with an actor with a phoney accent saying "come on kids, come inside, nasty weather's a'coming" while they film in an absolutely beautiful brilliant day, and the plane ends up crashing outside of their house because the storm was so bad it appeared there WAS no storm in the "bowling alley."
This is one of the saddest stories. I tried not to cry hearing the survivors. So sad. Then I got angry at the 1st officer who basically bullied and pressured rhe captian to land, but then BLAMED THE CAPTAIN for the crash. A-hole!
Some airplane manufacturers might object to this plan, but ... My father flew C130's for 20 years as an Air Force pilot and told me stories long ago of purposely flying into hurricanes and typhoons and these rugged machines invariably came thru it just fine. You can lose an engine or two and still land it intact. They'd have to spruce up a passenger version a bit for standards the public expects and trade a little speed for safety. Stormy weather would not be nearly as perilous and these turbo props thrive in heavy rain. I'm never gonna fly into forecasted storms ever again after seeing mayday videos of pilots willing to risk their lives and mine 😢 Let's hear the reasons from you pro's out there why it's not feasible. Just a suggestion.
How many times did he say he couldn't see the runway! It should have been a go around or, better, go to another airport! And they Knew they were doing things against regulations too! And isn't there a pre-landing checklist? Didn't hear about that.
Man oh man all of these people who are so angry at the pilot and co-pilot, especially the co-pilot who don't seem to be able to forgive or understand I hope they never make a mistake or a bad decision in their life and wants people to understand or forgive them. It is really sad how hard we can be on people for a mistake, yes that mistake cost lives but they were there too it was traumatic for them to they were under immense stress and we will never know what they were going through or why they did what they did or didn't do but being angry cruel is just so unacceptable

The trauma from the passengers applies to any trauma most people can relate to. I testify with them that life stops and you're not ok after a serious traumatic life changing moment. It's frustrating when people who have never been through this tell you to get over it.
Bg music too loud and narration too quiet.
Why not land in Memphis if conditions are that bad ?
Seems the Dolby 5.1 mix was not properly balanced during conversion. You need to boost Center channel (dialogue) and pull down the Surround channels.
The rear channels are fake slightly delayed audio and when mixed with the front, comb filter, tah dah
After watching a bunch of these air disaster shows, I'm a little desensitized because I'm watching this lady saying "our lives stopped in that moment" and I'm thinking "you didn't even plummet 6000ft a minute towards the ocean or explode upon landing, drama queen."
A little bit rude don't you think?
@@justalpha9138: I agree.

I hate flying through thunderstorms. I can barely stand driving in it.

Oooh, the original Mayday title sequence!

Really Nifty
Sooooo many ads :(
the co pilot looks like the pilot from the TWA United mid air collision over the grand canyon in the 50s for that reenactment
Why didn’t the airport suspend takeoffs & landings until the weather passed?
Got all the way through this one with a sense of déjà vu. Seen the other version that’s on here.
Are you having the "Mayday VS Wonder Channel" conflict that I keep having? XD
If you are unsure don't do it. Geez.
Its easy to say that afterwards but im sure you also would have made the same mistake they did if you were in their shoes...
You are NOT hurting American Airlines by making them pay....they will get that money back by increasing ticket prices for everybody else.
The statement that got me was: "This is a can of worms". Proof you should NOT be trying to land!
Airline industry at times work as Mafia’s, human errors goes on but human life are precious , decision making most important training
the best thing about the modern day is we have simulators that you can conjour any and all known situations and train the future pilots how to solve them.
CoPilot is the lawyer at the bar in American Psycho.
Also the narrator for the 🇨🇦 version.
In the 🇺🇲 version, we have a different narrator. I don't know his name, but it's not the co-pilot though.
I can not hear the voice over!
Why leave so many hazards at the end of a runway?
It's not a hazard because airplanes are supposed to be on the runway. If you believe those are hazards when they're off the runway then everything at the airports are hazards and should be removed including the control tower 😂
Right? Who thought it was a good idea to put a giant metal catwalk inline of a runway, knowing things like this could happen? That’s why airports should have flat and undeveloped land around them. If that was the case there might’ve not been any fatalities on this flight.
@@chumbawaumbacumpa Dude, you're literally not supposed to fly off the runway. That's why there's things like that there.
@@justalpha9138 Not supposed to, but accidents still happen regardless of regulations.
@@chumbawaumbacumpa The reason why they're there is because airports won't leave them out due to a 1 in a multi million chance that the plane will crash off the runway.

"The Southern States of America are prone to severe weather"
*Shows Illinois* MMM SOUTHERN!!!
Right, lol. I live in Oklahoma, nothing but tornadoes and cows over here😂
In Florida here, yeah, we have some bad weather.
@@PandaWrangler_professional sometimes cows IN tornadoes 😄🤣
felt bad for the crew
Right seat pilot played by amazing actor Stephen Bogaert - in American Psycho played the lawyer who Christian Bale tries to convince he’s a killer.
He was also the narrator for the first couple of seasons of Mayday as well
Yes! thanks - I forgot to mention that.
And I now see he was also the pilot of the TWA in the Grand Canyon Midair episode.
I was actually going to try to figure out who he is. This is the 3rd time I have watched this particular episode, and always thought that actor was phenomenal.
Thanks for the info!
I am curious about the USAir DC-9 that crashed by wind sheer. Which disaster was that?
What an awful night. I’m not going to Monday morning quarterback, but hard to understand why they wanted to land there so badly.
Can you please adjust the volume for this one. The sound just comes through on the left side (it's not even), when listening through headphones.
could you please add a few more commercials please ?
I have no commercials, why is that?
Okay, earbuds do seem to help.
The captain knew he was having trouble seeing the airport and should have insisted on ILS since HE has the wheel, not the 1st officer 😢😢😢
Too much background noise. Very annoying.
Where is the CHECKLIST?
23:13 He’s one of those people that takes his shoes off on a flight!!!
Could the narrator's voice be any softer ?
Didn't this "bowling alley" effect happen in some other southeastern airline? I remember the Mayday episode starts with an actor with a phoney accent saying "come on kids, come inside, nasty weather's a'coming" while they film in an absolutely beautiful brilliant day, and the plane ends up crashing outside of their house because the storm was so bad it appeared there WAS no storm in the "bowling alley."
It's happened a few times. I don't believe I've watched that episode yet though
Southern Airways Flight 242
Can't hear narration. Unwatchable.
Gave up listening, couldn't hear speach for added noises
This is one of the saddest stories. I tried not to cry hearing the survivors. So sad. Then I got angry at the 1st officer who basically bullied and pressured rhe captian to land, but then BLAMED THE CAPTAIN for the crash. A-hole!
The first officer was probably getting really anxious about staying in the sky. It was a bad situation in general I feel bad for both of them
Some airplane manufacturers might object to this plan, but ... Just a suggestion.
repost a video where we can hear the narration not the music
Is there a slow type of lightning?
Am I the only one getting ads for all their videos? I pay every month NOT to deal with ads, lmao, wtf
Turn the volume up
How many times did he say he couldn't see the runway!
Being angry that people were killed is unacceptable? I guess, as long as it doesn't happen to someone *you* care about
First officer lied, he never said Go Around.
If you don’t have visibility you either divert the airplane or do a go around until you have visibility!!!!
I gave up listening. Your sound effects are drowning out the narratives.
This would be better if you labeled the titles S01E02 so we can watch in order.
