As someone who works for a paint company (Sherwin Williams) I gotta say, that’s pretty damn impressive. We have machines to read colors and make formulas for it.
Edit: since everyone is apparently dissing on my company I’d just like to point out that the technology is not perfect, no technology is. But in the case of my store, our color matches with our machine are successful 99.9% of the time. Often times, the trick is to cut the formula back to 90%, then it comes out perfect.

He was pretty badass!

Some people are born with an extra cone in their eye and they can perceive colors that we can't. Many artists, especially really talented ones, usually have this trait. I'm not saying he has it but he could.

@@Queue-NextUpThats true, but only if they pick a standard color out of the deck and decide to go with it.
If a customer comes in with a paint chip off of their wall asking you to match the color, most paint places have a machine that *sort of* works, but almost never gets it dead on, which is where this man's skills would come in handy.
SOURCE: I worked at the sherwin-williams paint store for a few years and people would come in all the time saying "yeah lowes or home depot cant match my color, can you try?"
Surprisingly, over my time working there, I picked up the ability to look at a color and tell you "oh theres this much deep gold in it, this much maroon, this much magenta..." and we'd be able to match the customers color.
Though I wasnt as good or as quick as this guy, it was fascinating realizing this was a skill you could pick up and hone, rather than an ability you simply were or were not born with.
