I am a guy and I believe there is a huge difference between an open relationship and a friend with benefits. An open relationship is just sex, while a friend with benefits has the added element of trust along with an established friendship. To put it another way: Open relationships are just sex and a friends with benefits is making love.

Friends with benefits and open relationships are completely two different things, not the same thing. Completely two different ball games or animals so to speak. Friends with benefits do not necessarily have any ties to each other, they are not necessarily committed to each other. Their's not necessarily any feelings or love there with one another(usually). It's two friends that know each other and enjoy having sex with one another. Open relationships is completely different. Their are some feelings there, love is there or some love, their is somewhat of a commitment as well with one another(usually). Their are some ties in a relationship as such.

Open "relationship" infers there's a deeper emotional (romantic) attachment than just friends. Friends with benefits is usually not a romantic thing, it's mostly mutual respect and mutual pleasure. Open Relationships are not the same as Friends with Benefits. You can have Friends with Benefits while you are Single or while you are in an Open Relationship. FwB = a friend you have sex with, but with no relationship commitment. OR = you're in a relationship but you and your partner agree that its okay to sleep with others.
