I bought one last weekend and have no regrets, I didn't get all of the packages but most. It's so fun to drive and if your someone like me who live in a metro area but surrounded by nature like I am in Norcal, it is perfect for my lifestyle. It's about the experience and not the money. I think it's totally worth what you are getting and things like the Tesla X,Y and all the newer Crossovers or SUV's with the newest tech are much more.
Just because it’s v6 doesn’t mean it will sell fast. Could be worse depending on performance. It needs to be lifted with off road suspension and tuned for off road if that’s what they are claiming its for. Lately Toyota have been slapping TRD on all their cars after gluing body kits on them. No performance.
Pretty cool but not for $42k, they have moved the RAV into 4Runner territory with superficial cladding, badging and stitching. Should of just stopped at the Adventure or added some of these features as an add on to the Adventure trim in my opinion.
Toyota should’ve considered naming this the TRD “Dirt Road” or just TRD... because without metal skid plates to protect some of the vitals in the underbody, you are not going to do to much “off roading” on trails with large rocks. Rallying fast on Dirt Roads will be very good, but no rock crawling or heavy trails without risk to damaging vital components underneath. Needs a little more performance too- Intake & Exhaust and a spicier tune at minimum.
A Stanton1966 I’ll take “tinny” over plasticy like what comes on this any day. If someone’s giving good smack downs to the bottom of their vehicle then they would be better served with custom plates thicker than 1/4” but for most normal off-roading, TRD Skid plates are pretty tough.
Boris. C couldn’t have said it better myself. They even asked Toyota managers at the presentations what the difference was and they said “the off road version is not any more capable than the adventure”
tinhinnh most likely because they make more money selling the TRD. wouldn’t be surprised if they get rid of the adventure eventually since they are basically the same.
I realize it snows and gets freezing cold down south, but it's wild to see the snow so early since it is still autumn. The RAV4 TRD model looks very cool 👌, bummer there's no heated rear seats for $40k+. I'm loving the interior w/ the red accent trims, it's everything. Also, there's the important physical buttons not everything within a screen. So Mason, I need for you to be in bed friend 🙂. I get this Theraflu like powder in the flavor white tea, lemon, and honey, the night time one, from Walmart that you pour into hot water, and I add extra honey because I LOVE honey full disclosure, Winnie the Pooh is not the only one ya heard, Mason you talking about something that will put you out and makes for an incredible night's sleep. For me it'll usually kill the cold in 1-2 days. God bless and have a pleasant weekend Drew and Mason.
Good morning! I'm afraid he never takes anyone's advice about healing up, instead he's going to stand outside all night at a football game this weekend 😂! Anyways, hope you have a wonderful weekend!
For those of you that like to preserve your interiors, weathertech.com has awesome all-weather matts available and precisionfit.com has fairly decent seat covers... actually make them for the hybrid model too. They were the only company I could go with since they only make fitted covers for the rear seat in the hybrid RAV4
Wow.... as an Android user, I'd pretty much written Toyota off, as I love my Android Auto. I might actually have look at the TRD model closer! Thanks for the video!
I got 2019 model AWD/Xle out the door $29k in San Francisco dealership. Very happy! Sorry, TRD model over $42k...not worth it. Rather get TRD premium 4 Runner come with V6--.$40k out the door price OR -- 2020 4 Runner limited edition out the door $44k..
Not a dog gone thing 😂. They literally took the adventure, changed the wheels and tires and slapped TRD Off Road in the name. I have an adventure and minus those two things they are EXACTLY the same (oh and the red springs). I bought LED fog lights so those are also the same.
ABSV /a beautiful sunset vlog Don’t forget the Red stitching and accents instead of Orange like you have on the Adventure, Also a 360 degree camera system and special floor mats and the TRD embroidery on the headrests.
The Scruff The Adventure can also be optioned to over $40k with equipment packages like the ones that are on this TRD. You can get a TRD for under $37k if it doesn’t have all the option packages on it.
Subaru still beat rav4 in half of the prices...Not only they have higher ground clearance, but the off-road mode in Subaru is still smarter than what rav4 has. rav4 only wins in the interior comparison, and not using CVT...
@Jonathan Losito Yeah is true. The only complaint is the reliability issue on the Jeep line up, is better and better, but compare to these two brands, it still lacks a bit. The weird thing is TRD Off road RAV4 has nothing significant changes that can be competed with Subaru and Cherokee (even the non-trail hawk version). I agree if I pay this much price for an SUV that can do off-road, I rather choose a less reliable (at least for now) Cherokee Trail hawk than this RAV4 TRD off-road, or buy a cheaper one (i.e. Subaru or some used off-roader) and mod it up.
That weenie sized unpowered 4 popper absolutely not. What a rip off. It might look the part but it sure don’t play the part. Being a TRD. If they had stuck a V6 in it. Would be damn near perfect. What a missed opportunity by Toyota.
I own a 2024 TRD Off Road. The first thing I had to do is replace the Falken 01A Tires which have only about 1/4" of tread, for the real Falken 100H tires, which are Severe Snow Rated. The stock tires are not Severe Snow Rated. Shame on Toyota for putting these crappy 01A tires on this vehicle. The real Falken tires are not noisy, and handle much better in the snow. The TRD Off Road also adds an Engine Oil Cooler and Transmission Fluid Cooler with Heavy Duty 150 Amp Alternator. Towing is double all other RAV4s to 3400 pounds. The ground clearance is only 1" less than a 4Runner! No Start/Stop on my model!
Thank you for the detail review. Since the vehicle has a "Bird Eye" view control, can these cameras be activated at low speed for off-road monitoring conditions?
So my 2019 RAV4 Adventure is making a clank/clank/clank as you come to a stop (happens as the speedometer hits around 18-20 mph on the way down and you can only hear the noise with your windows down in a relatively quiet area). I had the electromagnetic clutch changed in the r/r differential after I was getting a mooing sound on acceleration so that’s not the issue I’m talking about. But I’m being told that the clanking noise is normal (I don’t agree) and am wondering if anyone is experiencing this noise. They told me at the dealership that it’s the sound that the transfer case makes and is normal to the operation of the torque vectoring system. But again, it is loud (sound like the sound when a flag is blowing in the wind and the line is hitting the pole).
So all of the TRD come with remote start without the app as well! unlock the car first and then press lock twice and then press and hold it for the third time and it will start right up. press unlock to turn it off
So basically, you are pay more money to make you looks "tougher", because I see no changes toward a real off-roading. Same ground clearence, same engine and powertrain, no air lift suspension......If you want off-road, buy Jeep Wrangler or Tacoma for this money
Can someone please explain to me why companies like Toyota have limitations to what you can equip considering this trim level. For instance a Tacoma in quicksand color cannot be equipped with the upgraded technology package. What does an exterior color got to do with interior features?
Worth $42K? No. 99% will never be taken off-road. Buy a $5K Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee and beat the hell out of it off-road and don't care if you dent or scratch it.
Reviewing this with a coating of snow makes it look even more rugged. Toyota is well known for offering a good value, but not in this case. Seems like more design gimmicks than meaningful functionality for a price north of $40K. Hope Mason feels better soon!
I don’t think it worth 42000 I’ve decided to get a Subaru Touring XT about the same list price but I’m getting it for under 37000 Toyota dealer won’t drop price under 40000 . So I feel that I’m getting mor car for less money.
Let’s be honest, you’re getting a used vehicle and comparing it to a new vehicle. So there’s that. XT is gonna be faster for sure... premium fuel, higher cost of maintenance and ownership in the long run should factor into your decision also. The AWD in this RAV is slightly better than the AWD in the XT which is 60/40 front/rear power split with brake vectoring instead of the RAVs 50/50 and true torque vectoring rear diff.
*So, I'm worried about the 8-speed tranny. It is known to have reliability problems, as contrasted to the tried-and-true older 6-speed, which was absolutely bullet-proof. I would sacrifice some MPG to go back to the more reliable tranny.*
Same I love my RAV4 TRD Off Road, I got it for a 38K so not all the packages but worth it for someone who has city and nature lifestyle. The inside is super clean, just as nice as a Tesla inside.
So my 2019 RAV4 Adventure is making a clank/clank/clank as you come to a stop (happens as the speedometer hits around 18-20 mph on the way down and you can only hear the noise with your windows down in a relatively quiet area). I also bought in December 2019 Rav4 Adventure, and although cannot say about specific clank noise , I'll say, in general, this car is noisy . Under acceleration you can hear the engine very laud. On highway , the road nose fill the cabin, you cannot enjoy music or quite conversation. The sound insulation on 2019 models not great. For example , 2019 missing hood insulation, that 2020 have. There also some issue with the gearbox in low speed , some time when I accelerate in lower gear, the car jumps. I saw on UA-cam that there a software fix for that in 2020 models.I need to talk to my dealership about that. Now as I think it's not a good idea to buy 1st year model as in next years they fix and improve . For Android phone users, no Android Auto on 2019 but will be in 2020 and so on.
SO tired of people bashing the TRD; most are idiots who can't tell their bung from a hole in the ground. The Rav's will most likely never have a V6 in them again. Why? Fuel economy/efficiency and engine technology that has come a very long way by leaps and bounds. In fact, the 4 banger that is found under the Rav's hood is one of the most sophisticated ever built. I recently took my Rav to pick up a Bobcat; yes, a full on skid steer Bobcat, and the Rav towed it will very little problem. Understand that the Rav is NOT a Jeep and making any comparison between the two is absolutely asinine. That said, this thing is also a huge Lego and you can build it to just about whatever your heart desires. We have been taking ours to Moab for the past 2 years and it has performed flawlessly. Yes, you need to install a skid plate. Yes, you need to put a lift on it. Yes, you need rims and tires. Yes, you need a bullguard bumper with a winch package in it. My point is, by modding it, it becomes exceptionally capable. Quit griping about the price; if your griping about it, you obviously can't afford it. Remember that you're not necessarily paying for the bells and whistles, your paying for the r&d that went into that phenomenal little engine under the hood along with the 4 wheel torque vectoring tech.
Love it! And thank God it doesn’t have a CVT!! But man the prices are a bit much and I’m in Canada so they are even more then what you guys have to pay 👎🏻
Aside from the rims and wheels... its the same as other Ravs above LE or with AWD..however I like the video...wouldn't advise anybody to pay 50K...for it. Just buy a XLE premium, park it and walk in the snow to wherever you going... Only in Russia do you buy something 'brand new' and then try to crash it in bushes.
Alot of people are turned off by a 35k rav4 let alone a 42k one. This is one to walk away from. Typical base model Toyota in an appearance package with a very undeserving price tag.
You get practically nothing for the thousands more you pay, it's pretty much all cosmetic plastic and a few bucks on some shocks, springs and tires. No LSD, no low range, no skid plates, detachable sway bars, V6 engine, just another marketing ploy to make you want the top of the line with massive extra profit for Toyota compared to buying a base model. For the money a Honda Passport gives you much more.
no way ! this is a joke 2.5 i went for test drive on the 2019 and my 04 BMW with 180k. sound more solid than this thing for the price they are stealing your money away. i also was checking the new 2019 and 2020 tacoma i'm telling you they are stilling your money away the grills and bumpers made of some cheap plastic, compered to the first generation solid chrome bumpers and grills .
Toyota Brony the suspension its only mud and sand rated its not a real off-road suspension.Wheels and tires u can change those and pick em by your taste... and u cant get a pano roof on the TRD
I bought one last weekend and have no regrets, I didn't get all of the packages but most. Equipped with the V6, these things would FLY off dealership lots! 😎
Ethan Hutsell if it had the v6, red Inteiror, and hud and power passenger seat I’d take it in a heartbeat over a v6 camdy,
Been saying this for a while. Toyota should make the redesigned V6 in the Camry and Avalon an option for the RAV4. This trim would be perfect for it.
literally
Zenon Antruzinon
Only 5% of Rav4 v6 were sold
This rav4 is as quick as a Nissan rogue CVT
Just because it’s v6 doesn’t mean it will sell fast. Could be worse depending on performance. It needs to be lifted with off road suspension and tuned for off road if that’s what they are claiming its for. Lately Toyota have been slapping TRD on all their cars after gluing body kits on them. Most of the stock skid plates found today on any vehicle wouldn't protect you from any good smack down. They are just too tinny.

I agree with you. Sometimes you got to go with the Army you have.
42K for different rims, tires, and suspension, seat badging? Nah I’ll pass
Zenon Antruzinon it’s in no way an $8k delta. $2-3k at most on identically optioned vehicles
Zenon Antruzinon base adventure
Boris. C couldn’t have said it better myself. They even asked Toyota managers at the presentations what the difference was and they said “the off road version is not any more capable than the adventure”
Joshua Vazquez why would they want to kill Adventure sales, the TRD is basically an upgraded apperance pkg
tinhinnh most likely because they make more money selling the TRD. wouldn’t be surprised if they get rid of the adventure eventually since they are basically the same.
I would buy one if it comes in a V6✌

Liked your video for the snow review love the extra effort! Get well soon.
Thank you Anthony 😊
Nice car . I purchased one in Houston
Too expensive for a rav4 and the engine / transmission combo is week. It’s so loud and so slow when it shifts.
Did sound loud, what’s with that?
Wow.... as an Android user, I'd pretty much written Toyota off, as I love my Android Auto. I might actually have look at the TRD model closer! Thanks for the video!
The 2020 models finally have Android auto
I got 2019 model AWD/Xle out the door $29k in San Francisco dealership. Very happy!
Sorry, TRD model over $42k...not worth it. Rather get TRD premium 4 Runner come with V6--.$40k out the door price OR -- 2020 4 Runner limited edition out the door $44k..
If you favor sedans more. The AWD Camry would be a superb choice😎😎
PLATINUM If you didn’t know AWD is coming on the Camry this spring and Avalon late 2020
@J Packard I been knew that😅
Hence why I mentioned it🤦♂️🙄
UGLY-DUCKLING-ROASTS yea one year late after the Altima AWD, the Altima AWD will piss, shit and spit a giant spitball on that boring pos
I prefer Subaru instead. $42 K + Taxes , License Fee, insurance about $50 K LOL
That's the price of well equipped 4Runner.
So other than the TRD badging and the nice wheels, want does it have or do to make it worth over $40,000?
Great review guys!
The Scruff More aggressive tires, TRD tuned Springs and Dampers, LED fog lights, Magnetic Grey paint (unavailable on the Adventure)
Thanks! Have a great weekend!
Not a dog gone thing 😂. They literally took the adventure, changed the wheels and tires and slapped TRD Off Road in the name. I have an adventure and minus those two things they are EXACTLY the same (oh and the red springs). I bought LED fog lights so those are also the same.

Holy hell! Wow! $42,000 for a Toyota RAV4.?! No way!
Great Review I would buy and XSE or XLE Premium.

Toyota !!!! Make this model and trim have a V6. The 4 is not enough !!!!
Or just buy a 4RUNNER. I paid 35.7k out the door for my leftover 18 SR5 last year.
Awesome 👏 review... Thanks so much for sharing 🙌🙌
Thanks! Have a great weekend! 😀
Thumbs up for the video... thumbs down to Toyota for not making this vehicle more ruggedized... has so much potential. I rock a '19 hybrid... love it.
Very beautiful! We just need a V6 now.
Just skip this and buy the 4runner. Already has a beefy 4.0 V6 and its bullet proof. Also 1000X more capable then this pile of crap.
Almost the same price as the 4Runner TRD off-road. always worth spending money 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 on TRD
This is dumb, a base model 4runner 4x4 eats it any day. That price difference would offset the added fuel cost in the 4runner.
FullMetalChicken “base” of course
Can't wait to see the 2020 Honda CR-V review and the hybrid review!
Yeah we're excited for that one as well! Hopefully we should have one in the next week or so!
If you’re gunna spend this amount of money buy a Tacoma...
Tim Latour or highlander or low trim level 4 runner.
You mean the truck that is made for people shorter than 5’5”?
Eww a Tacoma. What an outdated mess
@@Lucky8s Where we're going we don't need a touch screen
love mine!

Thank you for the detail review. Since the vehicle has a "Bird Eye" view control, can these cameras be activated at low speed for off-road monitoring conditions?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! And yes, the camera can be activated with a button on dash when driving slowly 👍
You forgot the full suite of buttons on the lower left of steering wheel ? Could not even get a clear view on camera.
Maybe for light off-road duty Nice review
Awesome Review Guys. I have a 2019 Toyota Rav4 Trail 😎
So my 2019 RAV4 Adventure is making a clank/clank/clank as you come to a stop (happens as the speedometer hits around 18-20 mph on the way down and you can only hear the noise with your windows down in a relatively quiet area). They should have given it TRD brakes for that higher price, standard brakes make it look like a regular RAV4 with fancier rims
Howdy, great review as always!😸😻😸
So all of the TRD come with remote start without the app as well! unlock the car first and then press lock twice and then press and hold it for the third time and it will start right up. press unlock to turn it off
Our understanding is that after the trial expires, remote start from the fob will also expire the same as from the app
RAV4 2020 TRD 37k...I haven’t seen one 42k
So basically, you are pay more money to make you looks "tougher", because I see no changes toward a real off-roading. Same ground clearence, same engine and powertrain, no air lift suspension......If you want off-road, buy Jeep Wrangler or Tacoma for this money
Practical and reliable but needs a v6 and a slight price reduction
Like the look but couldn’t feel ok with that cost and just went with the 2020 LE model
What a SUV.. astonishing
Reviewing this with a coating of snow makes it look even more rugged. Toyota is well known for offering a good value, but not in this case. Seems like more design gimmicks than meaningful functionality for a price north of $40K. Hope Mason feels better soon!
Thanks! Hopefully he'll be over it soon!
I'll get the RAV4 Limited instead. Black on Black!!!
I don’t think it worth 42000 I’ve decided to get a Subaru Touring XT about the same list price but I’m getting it for under 37000 Toyota dealer won’t drop price under 40000 . So I feel that I’m getting mor car for less money.

There is no way I'll spend 40 grand for it........... that's pushing Acura rdx price point.
What percentage can I expect to get off of retail price of RAV4 Hybrid XSE? 5%? 10%? 15%?
0%..... they're selling faster then Toyota can produce them!
*So, I'm worried about the 8-speed tranny. It is known to have reliability problems, as contrasted to the tried-and-true older 6-speed, which was absolutely bullet-proof. I would sacrifice some MPG to go back to the more reliable tranny.*
IMHO: a RAV4 for over $40 no longer presents "value".
Just picked mine up today. Got it for 37k out the door.
0-60 and low-end torque... perhaps the hybrid version is the TRD to get? :-P
I love the 2020 RAV4 TRD Off road, it’s very nice!!!!
Zenon Antruzinon I know right
Same I love my RAV4 TRD Off Road, I got it for a 38K so not all the packages but worth it for someone who has city and nature lifestyle. The inside is super clean, just as nice as a Tesla inside.

Drive that thing like you stole it while it's under warranty. If something breaks, you're covered.

You can buy a 4Runner for the same price. Car prices are becoming just like a home purchase.
I’d get it for 25k guess I’ll wait. I used to have a celica 2001 and it was all looks no speed, I hope they didn’t do the same here

Love it! And thank God it doesn’t have a CVT!! But man the prices are a bit much and I’m in Canada so they are even more then what you guys have to pay 👎🏻
They need to make the Highlander TRD, that I would buy
It would be 52K
Should of had skid plates and a lift..... Just a looks package essentially.
Old XJ: follow me 😂😂
The extra appearance package doesnt justify 42k
If they had upgraded the engine, maybe. But not with the same set up.
Let me repeat no rav 4 in this world is worth 42k that’s a Lexus NX territory.
Zenon Antruzinon true but not a loaded one
The nx is nice don't get me wrong. But I'm 6 foot and I felt Closterphobic sitting in it.
Yes you can get a loaded after discount at 42k my bro hust bought 2019 nx base awd for 36k after discounts.
eddy wong yes it is smaller compared to the others in its category interior wise.
tommy13965 oh yes it is. It’s always worth spending money on this rav4 TRD off-road
What brand of suspension on this. Bilstein?
Was it four wheels
Aside from the rims and wheels... its the same as other Ravs above LE or with AWD..however I like the video...wouldn't advise anybody to pay 50K...for it. Just buy a XLE premium, park it and walk in the snow to wherever you going... Only in Russia do you buy something 'brand new' and then try to crash it in bushes.
Good for those with a gravel driveway
How much?
if i had to spent that kind of money , gimme a v6 that you put in your Camry
Alot of people are turned off by a 35k rav4 let alone a 42k one. This is one to walk away from. Typical base model Toyota in an appearance package with a very undeserving price tag.
Save your money and get a fully loaded Adventure model for less. Toyota is running the TRD name into the ground
elbarto4394 if they have the money, let them
You get practically nothing for the thousands more you pay, it's pretty much all cosmetic plastic and a few bucks on some shocks, springs and tires. No LSD, no low range, no skid plates, detachable sway bars, V6 engine, just another marketing ploy to make you want the top of the line with massive extra profit for Toyota compared to buying a base model. For the money a Honda Passport gives you much more.
Your hazard lights are on.
The Hybrid is the model to buy...
These come with better tires than the TRD OR 4runner lol
@Jonathan Losito I wasn't talking about the TRD Pro. Was talking about the crappy Dunlops all seasons that the TRD Off Road comes with stock.
Nice vehicle but I’d rather have the 4Runner.
Are you serious $42,000 for a Stealth Toyota Rav 4 TRD 4 cyl.
I’d rather spend 42K on a Passport Elite than this.
WOW LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So basically buy the Adventure Trim and put all terrain tires on it? Lol
Sounds like a more cost effective option!
Winner winner rav4 dinner
How about a TRD YARIS hmm?
LOL, you can buy a new 4runner TRD offroad premium for nearly the same $$. This is just stupid.
I don’t need a camera. I turn my head.
want to go off road, 4runner is waiting you, rav4 trd simply doesnt make any sense(consider all that price you pay and poor performance increased...)
Sounds like a low-flying single-engine plane. Has Toyota not heard of refinement? Why is this so coarse? It isn't cheap!
no way ! this is a joke 2.5 i went for test drive on the 2019 and my 04 BMW with 180k. sound more solid than this thing for the price they are stealing your money away. i also was checking the new 2019 and 2020 tacoma i'm telling you they are stilling your money away the grills and bumpers made of some cheap plastic, compered to the first generation solid chrome bumpers and grills .
Mauricio Reyes it’s never a joke man
Rather pick up a used Lexus LX570 for less.
Sounds very loud.
The TRD is just a badge.. and different rims. So not worth the money.
Irfan Suli wheels and tires, front suspension, that’s the difference. Worth spending money
Toyota Brony the suspension its only mud and sand rated its not a real off-road suspension.Wheels and tires u can change those and pick em by your taste... and u cant get a pano roof on the TRD
I would rather sell one of my kidney to get the 4Runner TRD off road lol
Thangngo About the same sticker price depending on how it’s optioned.
New car getting expensive but our salary still the same 🙃
I just came in to say NO
You could get a bmw 1x for most the same
Damiien EVO 👏👏 with a BMW X1 you'll spend a lots of your time at the dealership.
v6 would be nice so dumb of Toyota , stick the camera drive train in it easy ....
I don't like the latest grill design. It reminds me of John Bolton's mustache
😂
Looks good .....😀
42K not worth it.
Zenon Antruzinon again, not a loaded one
Yuksel Kiziltas oh yeah it is
42 grand for a glorified Adventure hell to the nah I’ll buy a previous gen RAV4 Platinum aka the last real RAV4 before I’ll piss 42k on this
