Greta Van Fleet: In-store with The Vinyl District at Som Records

- You've most likely heard plenty about Greta Van Fleet of late-saviours of rock and roll, reminiscent of Led Zeppelin and other '70s arena rock stalwarts, and heck--that here in Washington, DC they sold out the storied 9:30 Club on a Friday to packing them in at the far larger Anthem in DC the following evening. It's been one hell of a steady ascent, even before a proper debut LP has arrived in stores.
Well, we'll tell you what our ears have heard-a shit-hot rock and roll band who have most certainly had their noses tucked into some records from early on, and who have absorbed the authenticity and passion those old records still elicit. (There's probably some good parenting in there too, but we digress.)
In advance of the 2 shows here in DC last summer, we grabbed bassist Sam Kiszka and drummer Danny Wagner from the tour bus down to the basement confines of Som Records, the backdrop for all of our Washington record rummages. Candidly however, Sam and Danny didn't need any coercing as you're about to see.
So, onward! We're record shopping with Greta Van Fleet at DC's Som Records!
You know what I love about this group? Is that not only are they a great band and great musicians, but that they are great role models. They’re not on drugs, they’re not drunks, they don’t party everyday and not trashing everything. Instead, they go hiking, explore and enjoy nature, and just spend quality time playing music. You couldn’t say that about most rock bands

David L. Well let’s not be negative about this. They’re good kids, grew up with loving and supportive parents. Seems like they’re hearts are in the right place. I have faith they will still that way.

They have 100% done psychedelics and smoke weed often, just look at them and their music and theme, they are hardcore hippies.

It's really fun to find your favorite albums and show em to each other, like kids in a candy shop. Even if you're not really into whatever they find, seeing people stoked is great. Hell, you don't even need friends, people in music stores have been really chill and outgoing in my experience.

thank you Kevin.I'm glad someone said this.they are truly a GREAT rock & roll band...I've seen them 4 times & I'm a 45 year old "Stuck in the 60's & 70's music guy"(at least according to a millenial..lol).
These guys are a REAL group of kids who truly love rock music & play it insanely good.I could possibly see them as a band to open the door to put rock music back on the radio & music charts...

MichelleR. There’s a ton of people passionate about music today, just the wrong kind of music.
That's what I mean with 'real music'. Most kids these days just _like_ music of the popular kind (auto-tuned disposable pop music), especially when they are the age of the Greta Van Fleet guys. So it is refreshing when you hear these guys talk about craftsmanship music in a world where most others are giving 123 million plays to a horrible 'artist' by the name "Lil' Peep".
I'm 18 and most of my friends love this kind of good music (the music Sam and Danny are looking at)
I'm not trying to sound like one of those "I wAs BoRn iN tHe wRoNg GeNeRaTIon!!1!" kids, but Im 14 and my favourite kind of music is definitely the old stuff like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Abba, Cream, Black Sabbath, Cat Stevens, Buddy Holly ect.. I can't stand the auto tuned rubbish that comes out now. i guess what I'm trying to say is there are still some kids who like good music :)

Always nice to get another video of these guys. As much as I love their interviews, they usually talk about the same thing due to being asked similar questions, so it’s nice to see them having fun and showing their passion for music.

A breathe of fresh air with these young cats...classic rock with their modern day views...pretty solid lyrics and the guitarist and drummer seem to keep getting better and better! Lead singer is already legit as fuck! Always have their music on repeat!

When listening to Greta Van Fleet's music, the word "nostalgic" comes to mind. Great chemistry between band members, they are very cultured, especially for people of my generation.

I miss all the vinyl stores Sydney used to have - my sister and I would go to a great place that specialised in repressed 45s of 50s and 60s stuff. There was a great place in the city you could spend all day in. There is nothing better than flipping through vinyl. Glad I kept all of mine.

I noticed Heart's Little Queen in there which they overlooked - a great album from 1977 - maybe a little to recent for them ;)
I'm very very familiar with much of the music they found because I'm now 66 years old an still rocking!
Som's records is a really unique place in D.C. From the underground entrance to the wide variety of options of records. It is not a record store for everyone since their collection is mainly jazz, blues, and underground, but it is a must visit place in DC

Cool i respect your opinion!, but all bands steal something from another band; the bands that i have been is always sprinkled with other influences, i dont consider ít a ripoff ( even Metallica sound like Budgie, Black Sabbath, Diamond head etc) ; even Zeppelin stole a lot of riffs from other artist; lets see if they sue GvF. In other hand there are a lot of bands that i love that sound similar to other bands; but if i like them, well i like them. In this case , i love that this guys GVF, the Struts ( clearly influenced by Queen) and Rival sons; for this generation and for older people ( like me) there a breath of fresh air of the modern music heard in radio; i support them

What a dreadful band, only where they are cos mammy and daddy paid for their management when they were about 14. There are so many better, and more interesting, new bands out there than this one (and ones that people my age are actually listening to, to boot).
