This ship belonged to a series of cruisers with very powerful dual-purpose guns. The major difference from the lead ship was her short-range AA armament, which had been improved at the expense of fewer main guns.

They managed to win despite a concerted effort by the friendly CV to throw the game. I guess it helps when the red force was lower tiered.

I’m always confused on when to use the HE shells and the AP shells
HE, long range. Aim at superstructure of ships. AP, point blank range. Aim for hull at water line. That's the basics, but there are differences in ship armor and armament and such. In some cases (Battleships) you can fire AP at long range and use plunging shells to penetrate ships' armor from above. I am sure there are folks out there that can explain better.

HE is also useful for dealing with angled bb's, or those pesky dd's.
Cruisers should only use their AP at other cruisers (easier to cit) or at point blank range at broadside bb's, and only if they're from your tier, don't try to cit a Bismarck on your Pensacola, it'll end with you underwater.
Rule of thumb:
Cruisers should use their HE most of the time, saving AP for broadside enemies at close range
dd's should never even touch AP, since they can do just as much, if not more damage with HE.
bb's should use AP most of the time, only switching for dd's and cruisers taking evasive maneuvers.
The only exception to all of this is cv's, since they are basically allergic to any sort of shell. Use whatever you're comfortable with.
From what my buddy taught me. Use He against ships higher tier than yourself. Because their armor is going to be nuts. So in my case, I’m using a T7 bb, but every now and then I get placed with T8 and T9s. I can’t penetrate them so I use He predominately.

She is a beast versus tier 5-6. Sadly, over half her matches she faces tier 9 where many ships will one shot her from 20+km out as soon as the CV planes spot her. She has a 12km gun range, never gets a shot off as she dies less than 5 minutes into a match. Look into the history of how Wargaming used this ship to fu*k over its most dedicated players. Save your resources and run from this coal troll.
