I believe it's actually due to it NOT having a blow off valve, what you are hearing is the air surging backwards through the intakes, if it had a blow off valve it would make a very distinctive purge sound in one go and not flutter like that, it also wouldn't clear the intakes because the blow off valve does not release the air back into the intake, it releases it off of the valve in the engine bay. I had a turbo diesel with a big intake and no BOV and it made that exact same fluttering noise when you close the throttle quick while on heavy acceleration because suddenly the intake is closed and all that air that the turbo was sucking in has nowhere to go so it surges backward through the intake.
My group all ran boosted 174 apex’s and built sidewinders. They were the chute and deep snow kings for yrs. We all are on 175 G5s now They finally built a stock sled that rips !! Hands down to skidoo.
Hey Matt, finally made it to Revelstoke for the first time ever from southwest Montana to spend a few days sleddin' up here, been wanting to come for years. Would be super cool to run into you for a minute at the Boulder parking lot just to shake your hand and congratulate you for making the best sledding videos on UA-cam as far as I'm concerned. Living and working in South America nowadays I only get to sled a few weekends a year unfortunately but watching your videos has kept me stoked during the rest of the winter months I miss out on for 3-4 years now, please don't ever stop doing what you do, be safe and keep having fun out there! Cheers
I’ve operated just about every type of machine out there, and I can’t think of much (at least right now) that works an engine harder than a sled in powder-especially when climbing straight-up terrain that most people wouldn’t even consider going down with something strapped to their feet. Congrats on the build, brother. Wild stuff-thanks for sharing the content! 👍 Oh, and going back probably decades, we used to call a 'Mod Sled' a snowmobile with a hopped-up engine. They needed to be rejetted a couple of times during the ride and ran on 108+ octane fuel. These days, sled engines are so advanced that changing things would probably just lose power-or at best, shift it around. So, I’ve got to say, your focus on the weight diet is a great call, not to mention the improvement in how it feels. I was *initially* going to break your balls about calling it a 'Mod Sled' 😉, but you impressed me. Well done!
Matt, I’m sure you already thought of this but you could put a powder valve like a stock air box that opens up with suction when the hood vents are open. Great build, thank you for pushing the limits with this sled
Glad you got a 175. The zones you ride... deep days. Why would you ride any other sled. Nimble and playful. Go anywhere. Have fun doing a million bo ties on 154 trying to climb out of 1 drainage. Go anywhere with a ear to ear grin
another amazing video from the best. Thanks Matt. People can try to copy your style but it won't happen. IMO when you narrate your snowmobile it's natural and not annoying 👍👍🏆
One reason I really like my old 95 polaris xlt, heated foot boards, and i have absolutely no trouble keeping it cool with the large coolers under the rails.
Man, you can just wander anywhere on that beast, Be prepared to keep up on the maintenance and possible upgrades for it because I can see a very deep year for you in Revi.
I haven't had 150 something since 07 M8. Went and rode with The Krazy Canadian, Dan Davidoff (RIP) in 08, in the Norns, and struggled following his 08 162 M8. Decided I'm I'm not good enough for a shorter track, especially when it's deep.
Another great video. Nice to see your custom home built sled is running good.a small snow flap that is removable might help keep it cooler on the trail

Something about watching this sled is so fun, idk if it’s the capability, or the arrogance that comes with it 😂, but it’s been awesome, I hope we get to see lots more this year!
Love watching your videos. Personally, I would appreciate some more avalanche safety talk like the beginning of the video. I think it benefits everyone to be more aware and ride safer. Just hearing your morning avalanche safety brief would help the community as a whole, IE avy danger level and make a quick brief of your plan.
Super cool to see you riding with some of the Ski-Doo boys! Pretty eye opening to see the 154 sleds hit a wall as soon as they get out of your track. How much do you attribute to the light weight, and how much to the 175 track?
You know, that if Canada became the 51st state your business would skyrocket!! I can't go into your country because of a dwi I got thirty plus years ago. I was denied entry driving for a company. But if your country became the 51st state I could head up there in support of your industry. As many others would, I'm sure. What are your thoughts bro?
Hell fucking no we aren’t coming the 51 state. We are strong and independent. As much as I like you Nabour’s to the south. I wouldn’t want to be called an American. I’m sorry…not sorry.
We get denied entry into the US if we have a DUI in Canada too.... We'd be better off having west canada and east canada as 2 separate countries. Except for Hongcouver that place can go to Washington
If they’re up your ass with that big of a track n light weight sled you got to do some clutching, bro.. Love all your content. Born n raised in Alaska, riding sleds and you fill my void of the sounds and imagines, i once enjoyed. Keep producing great footage. Stay safe, everyone.
They were not up his ass when it got steep and deep, there was no comparison, the light weight 175 dominated, and the thing is not even clutched or geared for that track yet. It will be a real beast once he gets it clutched, geared and an Av Gas 100LL tune.
A flap looks like it would benefit you after all the snow flung onto the tunnel and your back. Is it pulling full rpm? Sounds like it could use a few more rpm. But impressive nonetheless! Jelly of that snow
Love your videos, but I have a comment/suggestion on the gopro. Could you adjust the white balance on it? The clips from your gopro always looks so dark and muddy and the snow isn't white like it should
Free hat to the winner who comes up with the best nickname for your sled? "Doo the conqueror" That track might be the perfect track to port with 1 1/4" speed holes. Probably shed another 5lbs.
Yes, that's the noise you hear. Technically their recirculation valves, which is basically just a blowoff valve that vents into the intake. You can watch the vents clear when the blowoff valve purges
I know the sled is a freshly new built mod and expensive, if u find a large steep hill like the one at 23:30 but make sure there's no trees around and if u make it up easy, could u let (guy's u trust an know if they broke something they'd pay for it) others try it with their sleds and then let them try with ur sled and u also try it with their sled. Make sure the hill is wide enough that way everyone has an untouched area where the snows not packed down, lets see how much is the machine and how much is from the operator. Keep on shredding and stay safe

True, though Bryce Cardinal and Chase Masson are coming up strong.
Cool to see the intakes clear themselves every time the blowoff valve flutters 😄
Exactly what I was gonna comment lol

the 2021 did it but al lower pressure 😂
Very easy to spott on the 4 stroke yammies.

That sled is so freakin impressive! And it’s stock power which is nuts.
Drop 90 lbs off any sled and it's gonna feel like a rocket ship compared to stock

I just love the 175 build! ❤ Keep it up, bud.
So with the diet that skidoo is on does it handle as easy as a polaris

Dude you got Aaron Leyland out there? freakin sick. Time for a whole film!? Love the 175 Matt, looked like an epic day.

The fad has gone to shorter tracks again but I gotta say in the deep, pretty hard to beat a 174/175
Should put a reverse hood scoop on the intake. All the snow and moisture getting sucked into the engine isnt good.

I think the extra short tunnel makes a big difference as well in ejecting the snow and not robbing any power.
