when I was 15ys old my best friend and I were skating a parking structure on the strand in oceanside CA, Danny Way was unpacking his luggage and saw us skating, called us over and gave us both a brand new deck! I'm 40yrs old now and never forgot that moment. A true Professional and a great guy!
I’m not deep in the skate scene but I truly love hearing these stories about the histories of key moments skateboarding - Thankyou all for sharing your stories!
This is a great history lesdon. It feels like an Easter Egg in Danny Way Waiting for Lightning Documentary. Or On Video Summer 2000 Danny Way Documentary Arcticle.
It's about to get way worse with the olympics in play. I'm noticing alotta shady moves like recruiting dudes from Asia no one has ever heard of just cuz they might make the podium.
Wasn't there a story about Kanten Russel trying out but the team passed on him. And something about them going back to the same spots and getting similar tricks.
H Street was and still is my fav skateboard company, Matt was the dopest...im 47 and 89,90 91 some of my most amazing years...fxck heroin...Peace and good energy to Danny, such a dope street skater also. Those D Way H Street decks. The tails were sick. ✌🏻💨💨💨
Yeah dude H-Street for life. Matt and Natas were my childhood heros. The best deck I ever owned was the Hensley Stained glass window graphic. Last trick I learned was the 360 flip. Landed it twice and took me forever to learn. This was back in 92. Haven’t skated since and sometimes wish I would if even just to push.
Funny, I remember being at S.F. Back to the city 93’ competition where Carroll and Howard went public with Girl skateboards. They rocked the first Girl tees at that competition.
If I recall Koston mentioned in an older interview that they ended up kinda dissing him while on H street. Treated him like an uncool outsider to their clique.
Holy shit, that would be amazing if Greco was on Questionable. Questionable was the ultimate video for me, and I started skating in '00. Got all the Plan B videos when they were reissued back then. I mean, no offense to Ryan Fabry, but swap that part out for a Greco part, and damn, that would have changed the whole history of skateboarding in a big way, I think. Maybe not that much, but it's crazy to think about. Obviously the same with Koston, but Koston was doing pretty good back then on 101 and stuff, yeah? Never got to see 101 videos as a kid, but watch them nowadays on youtube. Ryan Fabry's other stuff around that time was actually way good. For some reason, I was never too stoked on his Questionable part back in the day, but years later I saw his other stuff, and damn, that dude was super gnarly.
I’ve heard Ryan Fabry was really really good - better than any video part ever captured. But he had a bad ending not long after Questionable. Legend has it that he some how got on Sheffy’s bad side and may have even caught a beating. Some bad drama and then he just fell off. He’s really the only guy in Questionable who didn’t go on to have a legendary career in skating.

@@highginx something to do with how the ownership of fourstar actually broke down vs how koston and guy thought it did that drove a wedge between those guys and the girl camp. Same thing that happened with MJ basically
Danny Way beat a gay man to death because he hit on him. Then he let his homie do the time for it. I lost a lot of respect for CRob and The Nine Club for not even bringing it up in that 4.5 hour interview
Just to clarify, I believe Danny was involved with starting the fight but he got knocked out by a bouncer and brought back inside before anything else happened.
No Rocco did not always have the best wood, lol; let's be real. But his shapes on the other hand, were excellent (they even invented the double tail); that's why my friends and I even bought the dang things. Vision had the best wood IMHO
Truth, 90 91 ish I remember having a Shut Street Posse and than got the J Lee cat in hat with big nose etc and 100% it was different, I couldn't get pop. It looked dope as he'll and flipped good but just couldn't make the wood pop etc I loved Blind (jeremy Klein) the graphics etc But never rode another Blind deck. H Street Hensley with the 8 holes in nose to make bigger n that lil bumb in nose haha That board was my dopest, had raw ventures and green toxic shocks worn down to probably 45mm hahah I miss that so bad, fxck heroin✌🏻💚 d way

Talking about Koston, Anyone know what happened to his and Guys board company ‘numbers edition’ I seen someone say that Nike had their fingers in it and pulled out of the business cos it wasn’t selling. Just find it weird how it got deaded and no one talked about it nd there was no announcements. They also scrapped the website and people’s orders never got refunded or fulfilled, which was super fucked lol
Once Miles Silva’s left for Primitive it was over for them. I think a company backed by Koston and Guy would have and should have worked. But it seemed like such a half assed idea for a company that it just didn’t ever seem to take off. They had no real art direction and the logo was pretty underwhelming imo. I agree with you that it’s weird how it just completely died out at once though.
@@Hartwell10 they both should’ve stayed with Girl, could imagine them making a return for the 30th anniversary. But as u were saying the art direction wasn’t great nd I genuinely don’t think the products were shifting weight at all, I very rarely seen stuff which wasn’t discounted in shops
@@Trillmxtic Guy and Koston left Girl cus apparently they were promised part ownership of Fourstar, but when it sold, they didn't get any money.. These are literally pirimitive stories to moderm skateboarding. It's great these interviews are being documented for generations to come.

Man, I think one thing NineClub has “exposed” more than anything from this podcast is just how sleezy and scummy the skateboarding industry is/was
It's about to get way worse with the olympics in play. I'm noticing alotta shady moves like recruiting dudes from Asia no one has ever heard of just cuz they might make the podium.
it's business, get over it
Yeah despite the love we have for this fuckin way of life/sport/hobbie and how hard it is to admit it, it IS a business...
true. but I think that w/ any industry the stuff behind the scenes isn’t always all good
All "business " is gonna be sketchy , back stabbers and money ...as is society, skaters are different

Cool to hear Greco was on that list. I heard Frank Hirata was also considered. Kanten Russell too.
In hindsight, It's funny that the H-Street guys didn't care who Koston was at the time

@@dharmaram7527 Interesting. Maybe that's the reason why he became so good at skating. He pushed it harder than everyone else to prove himself.
