Have been looking for this song for ages!! Used to be the theme of "Sounds of the Subcontinent" show on WCBN in Ann Arbor Michigan. Heard the beginning every sunday for my whole childhood but never knew what it was... fantastic tune
A true musical genius and innovator is lost forever. Rest in peace, brother... You opened countless ears to the reinvention of bass music, and the silence in your absence is deafening already. Thank you for what you gave us all.
Sam Zaman aka State of Bengal was honoured with a Blue Plaque for his contribution to music by BBC Music & the British Blue Plaque Trust. below is a little video, messages form artists around the globe. bitly.com/2rVDmQ3

Flight IC408 to Calcutta - Destination - Travelled the world. One of the definitive tracks of what became known as The Asian Underground Movement. Inspired many.
I haven’t heard this song since I was 16 and I lived on south beach. I love it and recorded it to a cassette tape. I never heard the 1st part so I though she was saying flight IC428. Almost sounds like photo8 and honestly that’s what I thought I head at 1st until I said it’s a plane flight so she must be saying 428. You know how your young and like a song but can’t make out the words so you say what comes close. Then you get older and your like, OH that’s what what being said. Anyway I love this song and just brings me back to south beach as a teen hanging on the beach a block from the house with the moon already out glittering over the water and the strong salt smell hitting you same time as the warm breeze with patches of cooler or warmer air mixed it because it’s after sun set. Glad I found this song! It’s been 25 years already? Damn.
It's an absolute belter. Is there another song like it? The loops and samples are so mesmerising and are woven so intricately throughout, that the song is recognisable from almost any fragment played separately. Unforgettable in the way The Avalanches' When I Met You and Prince's Kiss are.
Yes, i finally took the time to look up a Bhangra jam that i havent heard in a while. I have been jammin this since it came out i think. Most Americans might not be familiar about this subgenre. Talvin Singh, great work, moved to New York from London, and took the Punjab scene to the next level! (What is the Punjab scene? you say?). The Punjabs that came from India that were no longer farming for e.g., and their culture melded up in UK. These MC's took their native instruments and ideas into a then modern UK EDM field. But, asking someone that knows more about this, Is this Bhangra or Bhangra's "Folkhop"? Look up Talvin, hes a piece of wok! Worked with Madonna, and is a Mercury Music Prise winner
Thanks for the response, can you tell me more? Im still learning. I love Bhangra, and the Bhangra i new was from near 1999/2000, so im sure the scene has changed. I believe this was then Talvin Singh Presents.. So does he just promote this then? I thought he did some mixing with them. Can you fill me in? Is this just some kind of trip-hop EDM then, using things from India, or what then?

This is not Bhangra. This track is by State of Bengal not Talvin Singh.
