Hi Jenni I am so sorry to hear about the tough time you are having from the hurricane. You and your family are in my prayers. I wanted to share with you a photo of my basket inspired by this video but can't see a way to do it. I purchased the Diamond Frost Euphorbia and Dragon Wing Begonias as well a two baskets from Kinsman Garden Company. The baskets are still going well and they are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for your inspiration.
I live in a climate where it gets really really really really really really dry and very hot so I put on the bottom underneath the dirt underneath the compost the piece of plastic like a grocery bag or something like that spread out and it really helps that way I only have to water once a day🎉
Pretty combination! I put compost mix with really good potting soil in many of my big pots 2 years ago it wasn’t land and sea compost, it was black Kow which is really the only type of compost available here. Well, that almost destroyed my pots and plants. The compost turned into thick clay halfway down the pot. It took so long to get that gunk out of my pots. So definitely won’t be adding compost in my pots again. I’ll just use the land and sea in my garden cuz that stuff is too expensive to waste on pots. And I’ve had really good luck reusing potting soil by just replacing the top half portion and mixing in some bio or plant tone. It would cost me hundreds of dollars to replace each large pot with new potting soil. 😊
How much would you guess the completed planter weighs? And the size hanger hook would you use, and do you use an eye bolt? Lastly, the hangers, they’d certainly need to be able to support the completed planter with water. I suppose most facias are sturdy.
You are inspiring! The hanging baskets last year were beautiful. Last year, I upgraded my soil and amended beds per your advice and noticed a big difference! This year I will add Biotone to the annuals I plant. Thank you for all your tips and tricks!
If you're going to use a large pot, then you definitely need to fill it up. Your porch containers were so stunning last year; loved the beautiful Begonias and the airiness of the Diamond Frost. I recycle my used coconut coir liners from the previous year, shred them up, and then cover the surfaces of my newly-planted hanging pots and hayracks with them. It definitely makes a huge difference in water retention and prevents them from drying out too much. I don't use any additional plastic liners in the pots either - just new coconut coir liners, fresh potting soil, Bio-tone, plants, and previous year's shredded coconut coir on top.
We always put sheet plastic (with a drain hole cut in the bottom) in all of our containers with a fiber type liner. We are hot and humid zone 7 here and find it much easier to keep enough water on the containers with plastic liner versus not lined. We grow diamond frost, diamond snow and dragon wings from PW in our greenhouses. Great video!
This was perfect! I’ve struggled with my front door hanging basket and your porch lightening situation is the exact same and I think this will be best recipe for me too ❤ I actually was trying to sow my own trailing begonia seeds but they did not germinate well at all…may get 1 plant out of the bunch. Thank you so much!
I’ve not tried using compost in the bottom of my pots; I think I’ll try that this year! I use a thin mulch cap on my full sun pots on the S/W sides of my house to retain moisture. I’m not sure if all plants would like it but it has helped me.
Hi! Loved your video. I'm watching your German Shepherd lick up the water on the floor where you had the containers watered. I am praying that your dog doesn't get sick. Bio-Tone is great but it stinks. I just hope none of the products (or fertilizer from your other plants) hurts your doggie. You might want to have a bowl of water out there for your doggie to drink, then he won't be so thirsty. It was thirsty. Even though you're still talking, all I can think about is your dog. It's still licking up water (with the chemicals) from the floor and from the sides of the basket. I love dogs and hope it doesn't get sick. Great job on the hanging basket, though. I love it.
Thanks for your concern, it was plain water on the floor. She has a big bowl of freshwater always available to her! She’s a dog so sometimes she just licks things off the floor 😉
Dragon wings are the best we combine ours with purple heart it’s a dark leaf trailer it looks awesome together! I would have included a pic but I could not share in the comments unfortunately ! Their root systems are very vigorous!
Great info, Jenny. Would you also use Land and Sea in the bottom of a large AquaPot before planting? Or does the regular potting soil need to be what is stuffed into that middle tube? Thanks!
Great question! I like to put the Proven Winners potting soil in the soil tube and very bottom of the AquaPot, and then I add the compost and lastly more of the potting soil. Basically a soil lasagna 🤣
Good Morning Jenny, we are having a very rainy day too, here in Leesville,South Carolina! Diamond Frost is always in my pots with whatever other flowers I use. I love its beautiful white flowers among the other plants. Love seeing your sidekick Miss Brynna!❤
Perfect information. Got all my products ready just waiting on Mississippi weather to decide spring is ready for planting. Having to change some plans in my planting area outside my fence. Never had deer in my daylilly bed and pollinator bed. Daylilly foliage was totally eaten to the ground today. Ugh! Poor babies are starving so I’ll just change a few things😀
I wanted to try Proven Winner potting soil and the Land and Sea compost until I seen they were $20/bag. That’s not in budget for me with the size gardens I have. I just use what I can and hope for the best 😅😂 so far I haven’t kicked myself in the butt. I still have pretty good results. I talk to the plants when I’m done so they have inspiration to grow 😆
Land and Sea is expensive. I still use it in certain places. My hanging pots and containers for example. I tried it for the first time last year and was amazed at the difference it made! Also, I am a BioTone user to get things going. I can't afford the Land and Sea for my in ground beds (I order that by the dump truck load) but I can spend the money on one or two bags to get things off to a good start. Moderation. Staying in the budget is first!
I always have to have a large pot of dragon wing begonias on my deck! Love it with the diamond frost! I may have to change it up this year. I usually plant my pot with a Wicked Witch Coleus. The plants just pop off one another!
for all you folks coming from Wisconsin to Creekside from here, Impatient Gardener just posted a video about preparing a plant to carry home on a plane.
Hi Jenny! Those hanging baskets are going to be beautiful! Would you recommend Land & Sea compost in a new flower bed, I will have to amend my clay soil or just use it in containers & hanging pots? Thank you!
Help Please! I have a pot with a lemon tree that isn’t producing well, and I want to get rid of it. This pot has palm and cactus soil in it. I want to plant a rose in it. What amendments should I add? Can I reuse this soil for roses? The plant had no diseases, it just wasn’t producing well.
I love your instructional videos. I have to say your poor Brynna needed water. She/he was licking it off the ground and what he could find on the new pots. Maybe a water bowl in the green house for her?
She has a water bowl and access to as much water as she wants. She's a dog and sometimes she prefers the water on the ground over the fresh clean water in her bowl 😉
Question, when I used this kind of liner, in my handing basket, I had problems with my plants not wanting too grow, I used the same soil and fertilizer in a pot and did just fine. Any suggestions on what I did wrong. Thanks for sharing 🤗🌻
This is a very nice combination of plants. I may do something very similar as well. I love begonias. I love that Brynna comes and sits beside you! My sweet Harper does the same. 🩷
That combo is so lovely! You’re so right about proportion of pots to available space. Few things worse than a tiny pot in a huge space. They get lost. Hey Brynna! 🐾🐾🪴
I agree! Everything you put in your garden ( pots, statues etc.) has to be in proportion to house, trees & open space. Otherwise it will look completely off!

OMG, front of my home is exactly the same, zone 8a blazing hot sun in the evening. I'll just keep watching u on what plants can tolerate it. 🌱😉
I ordered 3 of this 24” planters, I got them today and yes they are big.
I will follow your advice I hope to get the same result.🌺🌸🏠🌺🌺🌺🌺🌸🌸
Great informative video! Thanks 22:10
I have a hard time to find a Proven Winners potting soil in my area. I have heard than Happy Frog is a good soil. What do you guys think?

Jenny, any chance you will sell the dragon wing begonias online?

Could you tell me what kind of dragon wing these are they are Beautiful
This is so cool. I've never seen a step by step for hanging baskets as thorough as this

Yes! Sheet plastic keeps the baskets from drying out very quickly.
Thank you for the tip, will do that this spring !!!
Thank you for this tip!
Great job going to look amazing.💯💯💯🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
It has been very informative. Thanks Jenny!
Thank you! I'm excited to do my containers
Very helpful, Jenny. ❤ Ty.
It is very helpful when you explain step by step when planting! They will be gorgeous!
I looks soo silly with those small plants in that huge basket 😂 But you have already shown us the result 🙌 You really know your plants 🙌
Hello from a fellow Tiger!! What size are your baskets?

Oh, perfect, thanks! Love all of your tips.
I've bought soil that's on sale. I've never had any problem using it too.
@@sharoncoon5439 buying soil on sale isn’t the problem. Buying bad quality soil on sale is the problem 😉
@@GardeningwithCreekside This is so true. Thanks

I enjoyed my large hanging baskets in the shade last year. Luckily mine were in a bed. So easy to water with a hose.
That’s quite a large hanging basket 🌸
They’re MASSIVE! It takes 2 people to pick them up when planted 😄

How do you water once hanging on your porch?
Love your sidekick! (Your dog..haha)
I use the potting soil that I can pick up. I wish companies would provide low moisture options.

There could be nematodes. Make sure you always use bone and blood meal for roses.
@@herelieskittythomas3726 thank you!
What plants for hanging baskets do you recommend for wind. Ours get beat up from the wind so we stop putting them up.
❤❤❤
Nice Video and Beautiful Garden 👍👍
That container is bigger than you! LOL - my Creekside hat is out for delivery. Can't wait to wear it!

My new zone/rezoned to 9, but today it is snowing…. . No gardening or hanging baskets yet🤗🤣🤣
Beautiful! Is the dragon wing begonia a proven winner plant? I couldn’t find it
No, they don’t offer dragon wings
Go online. Several companies sell them. Jenny may have them in her company.
Jenny I'm trying to purchase the illicium anise chartreuse from you ..but can't find them on the website..can you help me?
We don’t have them available online because we can’t find them as quart size plants. We hope to fix that soon!
Can you show how to build a hanging basket that you don’t see any of the pot on the bottom please… I really don’t like seeing any of the basket
Supertunia Vistas will be the answer to that 😊
Thank you so much!

These style of baskets will dry out faster than a container so it could have been that they weren’t getting enough water to flourish.
How much walking space is on your porch between the chairs and baskets? I'm trying to decide what size of baskets to buy for mine.
Begonia?
Are you making up some hanging baskets for Mimi, just askin? 😂
She has very few places for hanging baskets, plus she likes to create her own 😊
