I use to own a Yaesu ft 897d and it was better than this ft 891 in the video, tomorrow i will get one of them icom 706,s i hope its good :) 73 from Norway
I guess it’s a matter of one’s taste. I thought the 706 sounded better. The 891 was tinny. I have an original 706 mk1. Still going strong. I did want a 891. Until I saw this video.
Agree the Icom sounds better. I’m not sure the contests are killing ham radio. More like, complaining about ham radio contests, or only focusing only on contests (the binary argument) is off putting to many.
These are all nuances and little things! Both are good! Greetings from Croatia!

Where the 891 shines is the noise reduction. assuming you have the NR set correctly on the 706? Iam surprised nobody else has commented on this

Turn Narrow filter off on icom 706.
Test na korzyść zdecydowanie yaesu ft 891
Nie ma różnicy, no może dsp w yaesu lepsze, pozdrawiam
I tried a 891 and i thought it was the worst radio ever due to the tinny sound and popping noise in the r x was just annoying
The ICOM 👍. Contesting 👎🏻
ICOM is better. 891 is to tinny.and these contest's are ruining ham radio. that is not talking.
