Far more fair than Nostalgia Critic and Lindsay Ellis (also the woman that would compare a chaotically enjoyable cult classic like the Fast & Furious franchise to Twilight and Bayformers in “Dear Stephanie Meyer”) telling us that Anastasia wasn’t Don Bluth’s first good film since the 1980s for a reason as superficial as its historical inaccuracy, but I’d take the Anastasia duology over any other 1990s (from Rock-A-Doodle in 1992 to Titan AE in 2000) Don Bluth film any day because of everything it did right to feel a lot like it belongs in the Disney Renaissance collection of the same decade to end the previous millennium with a bang!
Disney: You are the best villain in my empire! Don Bluth: No, you're the best villain in MY empire! Jim Cummings: I'm just happy to tag along and sing!
For me this is my third favorite Don Bluth film after The Secret of NIMH and The Land Before Time. It's flawed, but there is enough material to make it an enjoyable watch. While we are on the subject of Don Bluth, has anyone heard anything about that Dragon's Lair movie that's supposed to be on Netflix?
I was born in 1994 as well. This was the first movie I ever saw in theatres. Then the following week, my parents took my brother and I to see the re-release of ‘The Little Mermaid’.
Yeah as Anastasia is quite a great film and you make great points. ^^ Now that's three of Don Bluth's amazing films you reviewed. Wonder if you'll do An American Tail & All Dogs go to Heaven later? I would like your thoughts on them, mostly the latter, as All Dogs was told as the last good Don Bluth film until Anastasia.
I love this movie, even if it's not historically correct, *Once Upon A December* is a song I know by heart even now as an adult.. It's a comfort movie for me. Funnily enough this movie inspired my love of history and I actually named my service dog Anya.
****14:22**** Oh Man, He's On Me!! 😳😳😳 (But in All Seriousness, Very Well Done Video, Raisorman. 👍👍) Very nice!! The jokes are more funny than before, the script is sublime and the points that you made about the movie are justified.. Can't wait to see what you'll do more. (Too bad l won't see the series "How Would l Fix It" for a long time.. But l guess it's for the best.)
The most unrealistic part about this movie for me was the fact that Anastasia decided to go off on her own adventure at the end with the love of her life. Couldn"t she have stayed with her renowned family AND had the love of her life???? Plus due to the fact that she's been a missing person for years and she's royalty and she's famous, I doubt her grandmother and the ENTIRE KINGDOM would just let her go like that. Anastasia's whole "trying to find who I am" was an adventure in itself with a satisfying ending. What other kind of adventure does she possibly need??? This is like making a movie about Amelia Eahrhert where she's finally found but then decides to fly back in the sky becuz "its her calling" or some shit lol.
Though this movie is no The secret of Nimh or the land before time (1988) I do agree Raisor it is a decent film that brought back the spirit and integrity and creative thought process that made Don Films truly shine compared to Disney at the time.though was i the only one who thought Titan A.E. was a decent movie and with good animation, amazing voice and a good blend of 2d and cg (at the time)?
Furries might have a disagreement with you on the "favorite Russian animated film" thing. Remember Bobsheaux's Sheep and Wolves review? Personally, I've gotta go with the 1959 Soviet film The Wild Swans. It's just so beautiful. Worth checking out for any animation fan
I don't understand how people think that the flaw with the movie is that it's not historically accurate? It's not trying to be!! Seriously, just have fun with the fantasy, there's not only one way to tell a story.
Hey Raisor, how you feeling better? So here are my thoughts: 1. At the 7:20 mark, you almost sounded like Robin Williams 😆 2. This film isn't perfect, but it's definitely one of Don Bluth's better films! 3. Rasputin does seem like a weak villian. The film would have benefitted if it showed WHY he's no longer welcome in the Romanov family; and therefore justifying his reason to wipe them out. 4. This is probably one of the best Non-Disney Princess films; considering 20th Century Fox is now own by Disney, Anastasia is NOW a Disney Princess.
It always bothered me too…how he didn’t just use his powers in her? You’re telling me an evil sorcerer is just gonna toss aside his weapon and weakly grab her foot?
Back when I was a kid I did like the movie but then as I got older and read the history I was like wow this movie is very wrong. Historically Rasputin to the end was still loved by the Romanov family to his death not imagine they did demand justice for what happened even buried him in their backyard like a dog. Only to have his body later unburied and burned by Russian revolutionaries so yeah they history is way off not to mention Anastasia’s body was later discovered and yeah the whole thing of her surviving forgetting everything was bullshit. Sorry to say that but that’s the truth and believe it or not there is a golden films version of Anastasia where Rasputin leads the revolution but I’m like hell no he did not. When you hear the part about how they thought he was a holy man but he was a fraud yeah the Romanov’s thought he was still a brilliant messiah like figure but then again the only people that considered him a fraud were the people of Russia and of course some of the Tzars closest advisers.
Even though this movie is not historically accurate I still enjoy it good movie. And good review

Ah yes, such an underrated classic and still had memories with this movie awhile back.
Disney: You are the best villain in my empire!
Don Bluth: No, you're the best villain in MY empire!
Jim Cummings: I'm just happy to tag along and sing!
the main reason some of the people in russia were cool with this movie might be more them seeing it more as a fairy tale then a historical account.
In the dark of the night, Donny will find u.
Despite having some flaws and historic inaccuracy, I still really like this film non the less.
For me this is my third favorite Don Bluth film after The Secret of NIMH and The Land Before Time. It's flawed, but there is enough material to make it an enjoyable watch.

What about An American Tail?

I wonder if Don Bluth inspired Raspitun's own death after Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Raisorblade reviews Anastasia once upon a September!🐶🦇
I'm starting to think "The Dark Forces" and the green demon thing are just the spirits of Sauron and the Balrog. Great video Raisor!

I'm not a history guy, but I enjoyed this movie a lot more, without worrying about historical accuracy.
I think Rasputin is the best part.
Nice beard, man. I haven't this movie in ages

I love this movie. Titan A.E is the next Bluth movie to review. Would also love you to review the Dragon's Lair games.
0:31 oh, guess we share a birth year
Holy Crap that's a nasty way to die! 17:23

Ra ra Rasputin, Russia's greatest love machine!

Anastasia looked at Rasputin's magical powers and went, "Plot armor 😘"

At 7:20 he'd probably be a better voice actor for Genie in Kingdom Hearts than the guy they got for Genie in the Kingdom Hearts games
@@meta527II Nothing against Dan Caselenetta, but he wasn't the right choice for that cbaracter
Thanks for another good video. You're a great one. By the way the horned king from the black cauldron'd death was quite as brutal as rasputin's
Great job on the review!
wow
0:07 LOL 🤣🤣🤣
I think the little demon things were imps
I can hardly wait to see what Disney+ is going to deal with Anastasia and Thumbelina that now that they’re owned by DisneyNOW
Amazing 👏😄
13:55 Well a big woman deserves a big name
Anastasia is my favorite don bluth film
