We had a white Econoline... It wasn't super old but because my boss was _shaving money_ the switches on the AC snapped off and would only work with a screwdriver jammed in the dashboard, had an issue with the fuel filler neck backflow clogging, the running boards and hubcaps came off, the seats were slashed and the back seat spring completely failed having a big gaping foot wide hole in it, the door handle on the sliding door snapped off from the outside, and worst of all it had garbage bag windows from when a hurricane blew it out and it had sat there for almost a year or two with tape on it that he would rather tape himself than just take the shop.
We had been followed all the way from dispatch and back by three or four police patrol cars because we fit the description of a kidnapper in the area...
      That's how disgraceful it looked.

Don't forget to abuse the roof space, I seen many use the roof space on these tall vans with material, one plumber had long pipes placed inside the roof space (inside the van) so he didn't need to place them on the floor, neither ontop of the roof.
Also dont forget to have really good lights back there, near the tools, screws etc. they help to find stuff :3

Interior roof space works great for smaller ladders so you dont always have to get them off your roof rack. I keep a 4ft ladder on my roof in my transit. Use a real nifty mount called "JetRack" you just push the ladder forward and it hinges downward. It can fit up to 10ft ladders.

The Ford Transit vans have super bright LED lights in the cargo area stock from the factory, even if you get it with an empty box/no shelving like my van.. it's AWESOME. I have a low roof transit 150 (I've been saying I need a bigger van since about a month after I bought mine last year, lol), and it really is a great van. The transit van drives like a car, in terms of turning radius and maneuverability, compared to the old school Express or E-series vans. It looks like Roger got the 2020 top of the line/XLT models... high roof, extra-long, extended wheelbase, with an Adrian Steel plumber's upfit with all the bells and whistles... those are some damn amazing work trucks, and I bet his team is going to absolutely love working out of those.

Good pick on the van type. I got a 2017 350 148 extended wheel base, extra height 3.2 diesel. Currently have 62k miles on it and love the van. Never had any issues with it since i bought it brand new. 1 time at the dealer for a recall, other than that I do the maintenance and everything myself. I’m a general contractor. I tow my dump trailer with it aswell.

I would recommend making sure that your vans don't have the standard Ford fleet keys. You can buy that key for a couple bucks online. If it is I would call a lock smith and get your vans re-keyed.

As a mechanic haven't seen a lot of engine issues with transit but be prepared for rear brakes at 30k. Every single one. And you have to remove rear axles to do rotors so they pay a lot of extra labor. Fronts last to about 60 and also require more labor you have to remove the hub and bearing assembly to do the front rotors. Tires around 30k and battery is under the driver seat. Seat has to be removed if there is a separation from the front to the rear

I bought one of these T350 HD units back in 2017. It has been pretty good so far. It has a few things that I have to live with. Biggest issue was the dealer hacks that broke more stuff then they ever fixed. Had to bring it in for recall issues and they ruined stuff along with claiming they did the work and never did. A recall that was causing these vans to burn to the ground (trailer brake control flooding issue).

My old HVAC boss bought me a 2019 3500 Chevy box truck, it was completely empty inside had no shelves nothing. I made all the shelves myself to suit my needs. I wish he would have bought something like the truck you just showed us. It was nice because I set it up like I wanted but I found myself changing alot of the shelves and drawers out for practicality. After I set my truck up to be a decent service and install truck, my boss bought three more of them and then copied almost exactly what I had my truck set up as. You are definitely on the right page for sure, you're making it easier for if an instance that a truck broke down, you can have one guy jump in the next truck and it's set up like the previous one

Hey Roger, I hope you see this. I’m a plumber in a very small town area. Towns of 500 people 20 minutes away from each other. Plumbers are scarce in the area, and I’m trying to go back to my hometown. Closest main plumbing supply house is 1.5 hrs away. I’ve decided to work out of a trailer. I can customize the trailer shelves and all, but what type of parts and supplies should I stock in this trailer?
I’m starting my own business, but don’t want to spend a fortune on irrelevant stuff. Just curious what fittings/supplies you’d stock up in your trailer so you don’t have to plan a 3hr trip to the supply house and back.
Love all of your videos. Thanks for listening and helping!

back in the day when I worked for a courier company, I signed up as an owner/operator. Started out with an F350 short box, and a steel rack to carry anything long, etc. Tarping things was the absolute worst. I dreaded any day it was raining or snowing. Finally got me a Sprinter, tall and long. I believe the cargo hold was 14ft and was just over 6ft tall inside at the tallest point. This was the first iteration of Sprinters that were released into North America. God was that a great step up. Sure I couldn't carry as much weight as my 350, however the amount and variety of things I could carry changed drastically. The companies owner loved my van and I got more work from it over the pickup. Them big vans are so nice, and allow the operator such freedom that regular cargo vans and trucks simply can't.

We have the same trucks in NYC. Some tips. The shelving isn’t so sturdy to the side walls at the top- add L brackets to secure them.
Add kindorf under each shelf to increase stability so the shelves don’t bow.
Buy bungee cords to secure things to the shelf (b tank, ladder) and under the bottom shelf to the floor so it doesn’t slide around while driving.
The divisors stink- buy baskets or plastic containers/cases from big box store or harbor freight.
Line each shelf with paper before stocking- oil, flux, grease, water will spill out.
Locking drawers are great but make copies of those keys!!!

Good decision on leasing transits. I recommend not buying the transits. I work for an industrial/commercial plumbing contractor which does primarily service work. They are very ergonomic. But they have mechanical issues. Transmissions dropping out, turbos breaking. Might have something to do with pulling full jetters around plants. The Adrian steel shelving tends to work it self apart over time. I’ve had several break. The only other issue I have with them, is you have to buy, or fabricate your own pipe rack. Which can be frustrating. My current major complaint with the transit, is more of a general complaint about vans. You have to stay on top of cleaning and maintenance. I’ve worked for residential companies that allot time, and require you to clean your van once a week usually after a meeting. That’s awesome. When you are constantly running calls and collecting different materials, you can end up with a nightmarish mess that takes half a Saturday to get straight.

Just something to note about transit vans it because the tires are smaller the breaks are smaller. My uncle owns a garage and he worked on vehicles for a company that used transits and the most common problem was breaks because the vans were carrying a lot of weight and it's already a heavy vehicle it put a lot of strain on the breaks.

Most comfortable van I worked out of was a Mercedes Benz. My current NPR isn't extremely uncomfortable. When I used to drive a Ford Transit, I kept getting major leg cramps from their seats. That was the most uncomfortable van I've driven. I don't think those vans are made for taller people.

    • @MittyNuke1
      @MittyNuke1 4 роки тому

@@POWER_WAFFLE Yeah it's kind of weird, for as great as the Transit is in so many other areas, like it's drive-ability is WAY better than the E-series/express vans, the cab seems smaller and less comfortable than the classic vans. I have a transit 150 and am 5'10.5" or so, and I keep the seat pushed all the way back, so I can imagine it being uncomfortable for someone taller. Never driven a Sprinter.

    • @arthurr8670

The sprinters ride well, but I would never own one. I drove one regularly while also being the person to maintain it. The oil for an oil change can't even be purchased at most auto stores. When they have an issue, it can get expensive. At 90k miles on a 5 year old van, the emissions system failed. This was on the diesel engine. The transmissions are sealed, so forget doing easy flushes. The newer ones don't have an oil dip stick, and just some random oil level monitor that the best it tells you is that it's okay.

For plumbing or not, this van looks mighty handy! Transporting props (I am a cosplayer and make my own props), large grocery runs, traveling long distances and many more!

I have a smaller version of this van and 100% it is an awesome vehicle for so many things. When/if I ever upgrade, I'm definitely getting the medium or high roof, super jealous of being able to stand up inside it! Amazing how quickly your back gets tired when you can almost stand up but not quite.

It's funny. I literally leave work today, and pass 2 of these Van's, parked. I think I found where you are stationed. One day I just might meet you.

I mean its a working truck so what matters is presumably comfort of the driver since he has to use it a lot and the cargo space and how secure it is. But when I noticed its an automat... I as someone who enjoys driving simply prefer manual. But hey for casual driving as a work vehicle I dont see a problem.

I'm debating moving into a van we have at shop like that. I have camera equipment, smoke test equipmen, sewer machines & a bunch of other stuff stuffed in a GMC Savana. I pull a trailer everyday so I wondered if those can handle towing alot

Hopefully the 2019 version that has AWD, we have the older model and it sucks in the snow. We have the 2015 transit with just rear wheels drive.
