Haha, can you tell I’m a bit sleep deprived this week? I’ve been so busy with holiday preparations, that I was in the mood for just making something fun and a bit silly. Hope everyone is enjoying a lovely holiday season!
Don't you hate it when Maddie sends you her photo for Christmas already framed and now you're obligated to display it in your living room, although the frame clashes with your style😤🔥
Excellent advice about gift giving with your employer. Receiving a gift from an employee is very awkward under any circumstance. Giving to an employee is quite satisfactory however, and a heartfelt "Thank You" is the only gift to give in return. Thank you!
When I was growing up, here in northern Queensland, Australia. We never rang anyone except family on Sundays. And never after 8 o'clock in the evening.
Great fun video ✨😆 I want to think that Irene finally understood the hints her friend, who is a boy, was giving her with his gifts (jewlery! C'mon girl!) and they got together in the end, holiday romance ♥️🎶
I loved these. Really made the past come to life and made me connect to past people. Some things never change. I recently googled "how to decline an invitation politely" because an acquaintance of mine (who has been trying to be friends for a few years now) invited me over to her place for the third time. I had to find a way to tell her politely I wasn't interested in coming to her place, and also give the impression I wasn't interested in being irl friends, and do all that whilst staying polite, clear, kind and do the least damage possible. I found some great advice online, it is all in the phrasing. I used one of the phrases they recommended and I altered some of the wording so it would be appropriate for the situation. It seems she took it well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! And if you think about it, our UA-cam comments are often little notes of thanks for efforts we appreciate, just like traditional thank-you notes were; isn't that a nice thought? I especially liked all the characters you portrayed with such gusto! The "proud and sensitive" old lady made me laugh, and the melting of the haughty mother-in-law was sweet to see. The advice was actually also useful to me today, as I've often wondered about similar things, such as whether or not I should open a present in front of the giver (most givers seem to be happiest if you do, I find). I found all the advice quite sound for any era. One last thought: I'm surprised by how often I'm surprised that Edwardian informal phraseology is not that different from today's, even though I've read books from that period and ought to realize it by now. Delightful video! I do hope you make more of these when you can. ☺️
Yes, I've also always thought Edwardian phrasing is surprisingly modern. There was quite a bit shift (in my opinion anyways) between the Victorian and Edwardian decades in terms of writing style.
Just here to say that your channel is the best discovery of 2021! Wish I found you earlier! I'm now binge watching all of the videos 😆 keep up the amazing work!
What a fun video! It looks like you had so much fun making it. I would LOVE to see more videos like this in the future. It's informative, too. Most of the vintage advice still rings true today! Happy holidays! ❤️💚❤️💚
I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year. Your wonderful channel brought me so much joy this past year. To thank you, here is a sample from "The Wheeling Daily Register", January 1869. A tobacconist was interviewed with regards to how he benefits from his customers' broken New Year's Resolutions: "On New Year's Day" said he, "I always find a sudden & tremendous falling off of my business. After doing an unusual amount of business during Christmas week, l sell scarcely any tobacco on New Year's Day and indeed very little tobacco in the week thereafter. Gradually, however, my old customers, having broken their New Year's resolutions, come dropping in, one by one, and before the end of January l sell as many cigars and tobacco as ever, indeed rather more." Poor human nature!
These are some beautiful hats!

The WORST! I already see her face much too often; I don't need a reminder of her in my home as well!
🤣
This was simply delightful! Would it be appropriate for me to send you a sincere letter of appreciation for it? 😊

I love how sassy some of the answers are
I never knew that Snidely Whiplash was such a considerate employer. Never judge a book by its cover.
🤣
Kate: You put so much work into this video and it was so funny. Thank you. And those hats! Oh gosh, I'm SO envious. Thanks for the good laughs.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Your background acting truly made this amazing lmao !
love your acting skills and idea for this video

Back when etiquette meant general politeness!
Thank you for the lovely video, a great company whilst I write Christmas cards. Couldn’t tell at all that the ‘chocolate’ was a remote!

That was such a charming, fun video. Very well done.
Thank you :)
Despite this being said to not be a modern etiquette guide, so much of this is still such useful advice. :)
