I was today years old when I learned that ASOS stands for As Seen On Screen. What
I know! Wth
Seriously me too wtf👏
Wow lol
They used to make copys of what celebrity's used to wear hence the as seen on screen
Me too 🤯🤯🤯
I don't understand all these shopaholics, they buy designer things, but wear horrible clothing, and have average non stylish rooms, which make all the designer things look cheap
Because luxury doesn't equal style :)
@@kria9119 haha even more confusing luxury is bought for the style of things?
This is going to sound mean but they are often extremely average looking. Like, it doesn't seem to be super cute, gorgeous girls who are shopaholics. I'll shut up now.
@ You tell me. Every single one of these shopalics I have ever seen have been extremely average looking. Must be a connection don't you think
@@cindybeaton2103 First of all, most people on this planet are defined as 'average', so the chance for you to see a beautiful shopaholic is not that high. 2. You call her average looking and i think she is gorgeous. Everyone has his own Definition of Beauty. The only connection between shopaholics is that they are mentally ill and need help.
I really appreciated the way the show dove into her issues psychologically with overspending, rather than turning her into a shame spectacle.
agreed. What a refreshing approach!
You musta missed the Overspending Awards.
Too late though 🤔😂
@@admiralbutt Has to have a balance, need some embarrassment to take accountability as well.
I was waiting for someone to say this.
Whoever came up with the personal shopper idea was a genius. She gets the feeling of shopping, but instead of losing money, she makes it. And she seems to be quite good at it too. The swap site too, was genius. And giving her a going out budget. They really wanted to help her, its not just about getting a show for them.
Exactly. They handled this so well. This is the first episode of this I've watched and I'm so impressed
It was amazing solution and great for her self worth AND she did them and herself proud ❤🎉
Such an unfortunate period in fashion to have bought your designer items...
Not many timeless pieces hahahaha 🥴
She don't have a taste at all, so "investing" in wardrobe doesn't work fo her anyway ...
For reals.
The clothes are hideous. 😂
🤣
I absolutely LOVE how outdated this is. Hearing them talk about ‘Hollywood royalty” and then showing peak 2000s Paris Hilton gives me LIFE. The clothes are ridiculous which makes it all the more insane that she’s probably still paying them off today but likely can’t (or really, really shouldn’t) wear them anymore.
Lmao hearing the OC theme song was a nostalgic trip and a half! A world without a Kardashian. Those were the days...
I was 12 in 2k. I even thought the styles then were awful. 🤦🏼♀️ Ugh, plastic hilton actually freaked me out as a kid. 😅
Omg yess!
Anymore!? Never more like!
Ohhh i was wondering wtf was going on with her looks than i realized this is peak 2000s fashion. Ahhh simpler times.
Jesus the age of this video... it’s obviously 2006-2007. The music, the celebrities, the eyebrows, the cell phones... all of a sudden senior year of high school is a long time ago....
Just the eyebrows themselves told me this wasn’t recent 😂
Natalia Vanderlan , so what?
@@debishaw9355 sounds like I struck a nerve 😂
Natalia Vanderlan , you did!
It wasn’t you that struck the nerve I realize. It was Marianne Stover
How do you spend thousands of dollars on expensive clothes and still look so cheap? Seriously, she's wearing Gucci and it still looks like clothes from Walmart.
Fashion back then was absolute trash, and I'm guessing she was considered to be dressed ok back in that time. Definitely not as good as much money she spent lol
Its bcuz shes is obese ! And... the eyebrow shape and her hair !
Perhaps she wouldn't have looked any different... oh yeh, buy wait - hang on a moment she would be saving $$$
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was a really tacky era for high end fashion. I'm glad I was still a kid with no money for this period
19:05 My heart broke. It all made sense. She found identity in trying to be a celebrity to take herself out of the life she was currently living. After her mum passed, she didn't want to be herself anymore with all the pain she was feeling.
❤
oh.,..,
She lost her mom be kind you guys.
I believe the shopping is a form of dissociation... she’s so sweet I hope she is doing amazing today
That fake awards show was highly unnecessary 😂
That got me hooked 😂 so ridiculous
Yeh ahahah she looked so uncomfy
It made sense because it highlighted what she would be famous for...just spending money.
She's actually a clever and well-spoken young lady with valid reasons behind her issue, I hope she is doing well today.
Some of the comments are so unkind and mean.
The clothes are irrelevant!!! The grief for her mother is the real issue... The overspending and overeating are related all to do with the grief.
Judging her fashion choices or which celebrity to follow completely misses the point!
This was filmed in 2004 things were cheaper back then. I rented a room for £36 a week back then!
Hope this lady is doing much better
Yes! I get it! I started to type a long dissertation but decided not. I have find my peace....
Compassion sure goes a long way. ❤️
I firmly believe that the people who make the cruelest comments, are probably the ones with the most miserable lives themselves.
Yes, I was heartbroken when she said that she sometimes wishes she had gone instead of her mother. I really hope she is doing well today. ❤️
@@Youmeandyume Heartbreaking isn't it.... she really missed her
I used to shop for fun in my 20's. Then I realized that although a purchase felt exciting , it would probably end up on the floor of my closet one day. Picturing that image made me realize that nothing I bought was going to change my life in some magical way. It was all just "stuff". Also, I started taking pictures of something I wanted to buy instead of immediately buying it, and I was able to not buy the item.
That's so smart to take pictures. I also have to remind myself, that all this clutter in my room was once money. 😪
I never thought of that angle by taking pictures-great idea. When I was younger and had a craving for something that I should probably not buy, I would simply leave the store and tell myself I could always go back and get the item that I fancied if I really wanted it. What would usually happen is that I found that, unless I absolutely loved the item, and the pricing was right, etc etc, 85% of the time I didn’t go back to purchase the item.
Thank you for this! I currently have a spending addiction atm so this is definitely something I'd like to do to help with it..
I do agree. I also experienced that last few months and now, I'm saving money.
@@titaniumtiara4573 The problem is that now it is time of "fast fashion", which means that if you don't buy that thing now, it might not be there tomorrow. Of course, if you are a super small size, you don't have to worry - those sizes are always available and on sale :( :( :(
I really felt for her when she spoke about losing her mother poor girl xx she’s a beautiful girl - the 2000s fashion did no one a favour lol
Speak for yourself. I was a hottie then.
@donnellokafor4376no need to be unkind...

This made me cry. I really feel for this young lady. I’m praying by now she is healed and happy. I pray she has true happiness in her life. ❤
That's a beautiful comment, which is few and far between in this horrible comment section
Missed the "looking like a celebrity" part
🤣
Ya cow
😂
😂 😂
Looks like Kmart
This girl is exactly the same as me. I’ve wasted my entire teen years impulsively shopping, buying useless clothes that I don’t wear instead of going out and enjoying life with friends. I ended up replacing my shopping addiction with a heroin addiction in the end and now once again I can’t afford to go out and live my life. Addiction is no joke whether that is a psychological addiction or a chemical dependancy. Shopping addiction needs to be taken more seriously, it’s very real. It’s a form of escapism, just like an addiction to drugs or alcohol. people with shopping addiction need help just as much as someone with a drug addiction. it’s filling a void. I hope she learned to get through this.
Jesus will fill your heart and replenish your soul with contentment and love and belonging. Only Jesus with make you truly happy
Omg yasss your completely right. Sadly, some people take it as a joke or they just assume the person is an irresponsible moron. Some have no clue what that person has been through or is going through and they may really need help before they become a hoarder.
I completely get where this girl is coming from. I went through frivolous spending when I was younger but when I started doing social work, one of the things I had to do was teach financial literacy and household budgeting for women’s shelters, high schoolers and recovering addicts. I realized how my ridiculous my spending habits were and completely changed things. I really think household budgeting should be taught in school. I notice that a lot of people my age have terrible spending habits.
Sad part is society wants us to be bad financially. In debt and living outside our means smh lol
She's so brave. What a terrible ordeal she's been through losing her mother. Wishing her all the best.
What a kind comment ... good on you :) xxx
Thank you.
Well said. A lot of other comments are going on about fashions etc. The message in the programme is timeless. It's completely about her loss
Your comments it out because you and I have the same name. I took the H out of my name… I do have to say your common is very kind. Good Anya
There is a similar Canadian show called "Princess: with Gail Vaz Oxley. A lot of those girls are spoiled and mouthy. This girl is actually very sweet.
I was so annoyed that the "therapist" kept insisting that she was mad at her mother. She kept saying that she was not. She was angry that she died but she clearly kept saying that she was not angry at her mother. Ok that is all. Lol.
Also I’m sure he isn’t really human lol he creeps me out
Pretty sure he was a "life coach", too.
Life coaches do not have to have ANY qualifications, whatsoever.
Apparently, they do not have to have personalities, nor competence, either.
They may not even have to be...
... human. 🤣
He bothers me too. No expression on his face at all. I know therapists are supposed to be neutral but he is emotionless and speaks for the clients.

I sincerely appreciate your comment here!
I did the same.
Hope you find him
I feel like the psychology coach really pushed her into 'admitting' that she was angry with her mother. It felt like he really manipulated into saying that when she didn't really have any anger at her mother at all. Very strange
Agreed. He was very odd and irritating
@@brianagreen8624I see sadness that her mom died. Angry is another level that I don't see but we are not seeing the whole of the situation due to editing
He does this in pretty much every episode. He comes up with a theory right from the start and pushes the person towards accepting it. I get the impression that he thrives on feeling like the intelligent person in the room.
He's not qualified
So glad someone else noticed this too! It was very manipulative and forceful. It made me uncomfortable to watch. He was pushing an emotional narrative that wasn't there. When Roxanne acknowledge other emotions around her mom's death (like guilt) he sort of dismissed them and brought the focus back to anger. He should have dug deeper there. J was so much more helpful with the budgeting and the art classes!
okay but this first bag is probably the ugliest bag ive ever seen
I said the same thing when I saw it 🙈😂😂
It’s like 2005. That was the style. Still god awful, but kind of an explanation 😂
Agree
Right! That’s exactly what I was thinking. I get that this was a long time ago, but that style was never cute in my opinion.
I was wondering which you meant really and then I saw it and just...knew. Holy cow.
The guy telling her that she was mad at her mum was super uncomfortable :/
Not really. It's a normal part of going through grief....which he also said in the video.
Being blunt shouldn't make you uncomfortable.
He just kept pushing it, I feel like she just agreed to shut him up lol just bc ur angry doesn’t mean it has to be specifically directed at someone
he isnt a real psychologist, which makes it even more uncomfortable
The music. The fashion. The references. I’m back in the early-mid 00’s and 17 again. I hate it lmfaoooo
I love it 😭😂
I lost my mom a month ago and Roxanne's experience has given me courage to deal with the loss. God bless🙏

So sorry for your loss! Hope that you are healing and doing well 💓
Bless I feel like she really really needed therapy, she’s so so sweet I nearly cried like 3 times
Ikr?
You seriously nearly cried??? About what??
I actually cried. I watched this to make fun of some vain spoiled brat TBH but she's actually a sweet young woman dealing with depression who's simply using an unhealthy coping mechanism to deal with her grief.
Should teach personal finance and household management (cooking!) In school for everyone. I hope Roxanne is doing well and enjoying her life.
True. But I think this kind of case is more than just financial mismanagement. She's clearly depressed and depression could make one do unreasonable things, no matter how knowledgeable the person is.
There are a lot of companies who make money from overspending tho so... 😬
YES thats why i took busniess and economics
Didn't like that he was putting the idea of being angry about her mum in her head. She said several times she wasn't and eventually she succumbed to what he was saying. Not everyone is upset with someone for leaving them ffs
Yes, he always has some idea of why these women spend and convinces them of some dime-store quack reason rather than asking questions. Old VHS = hasn't progressed from childhood. Make up collection = shallow. UGH!
Totally agree, that was so weird. My mother died of Alzheimer's and I never once 'felt angry at her for leaving me'. How can he call himself a legitimate therapist, handling people's vulnerable emotions, while trying to influence/brainwash? Gross behaviour.
he isnt a real psychologist, that's why they call him a "psychological coach". he has had no education in medicine and does not posses a doctorate. he is just some dude pretending to be a psychologist. uk has pretty lax laws on calling yourself such a thing when you don't have the educational/clinical experience. that's why he does weird/creepy things with these people that are completely unorthodox. i feel bad for the participants...with him probing into their deepest issues and making judgements...all the while he is just some dude playing doctor dress up.
@@jamnbryan1 that's so appalling, he could provoke PTSD
Yes it seemed forced. I think she felt lonely and empty at times and shopping released temporary endorphins. BUT I didn’t get the sense that she was angry at her mom. She just had a lot of pain to process. The guy was kind of off in general-I think he needs to go therapy himself!
She’s a very brave young woman to be so open and vulnerable on camera ❤
Lmaooo
It’s brave to ask for help so publicly like this:) I hope she’s doing well!
Why did that guy want her to be angry with her mom so badly? She said she wasn’t. I think it was kind of messed up to tell her how she needs to feel. My husband died in a car accident, I don’t feel angry with him. It would make me upset if I was forced to say I was mad at him while screaming and breaking stuff…
Yeah I feel like he was really reaching with that strategy... I thought she was probably just really sad to be without her mom, without guidance from her.
People here in the comments think that having extra pounds is a lot worse than being extremely indebted for years...

5 minutes in, and I know she's depressed🤷🏾♀️
A whole 5 minutes??
She uses shopping to cure her depression it's like a drug for her so she needs to remove the temptation to spend money on these useless things someone should control her money for a while until she can learn how to do it.
nrjohnsocam why they’re treating her depression with a “lifestyle expert” rather than a therapist is beyond me..... It’s totally unethical.

she could be angry because her mother died and leave her alone.

i went to college with her, lovely girl
Ah that’s nice to hear. I hope she’s doing well now x
Dang. She looks 40 in this video.
Why are all young people from this show look 10 years older than they actually are?
2005 was a hell of a time
Outdated fashion. Middle aged women often cling onto what was trendy in their youth so a lot of the older ladies you see today wear this type of thing.
Tanning
Wait 10 years from now and look back at the young generation today you’ll probably see the same things. Look at those heavy make up teenagers today they’re already look 10 years older than they actually are.
Carrying the debt ages people
I thought it was great that they introduced her to art. As a replacement of shopping and an opportunity to meet new people, learn a new skill, and find a new way to enjoy life. I think it was really smart and absolutely going to help her. IF she chooses to let it help her.
I have never seen a therapist lead a patient like that man did during the 'grief counselling'... 'this is how you feel don't you!?!?!? That's how you feel'
He's not qualified, in another episode they explain he's just someone who's been to therapy
Me neither! It’s almost like he’s planting ideas in their head. He is a psychology coach, but I am pretty sure they do some sessions before they tape these shows. No way he so good that he gets to their underlying problems so quickly.
Having designer shoes and bags do not give the celebrity look if the outfit looks cheap. If You don't have fashion sense, you will choose the worst stuff, even if it is from designer.
Aww what a sweetie. Hope she is having a good life. Takes courage to address issues. All power to her.
I feel for her so hard. I used to be in loads of debt from the same thing and paying it off recently was the best thing I ever did. No more credit
Y'all know depressed people are not going to hit the gym everyday and live on salads, right? I'm all for living healthy, but you sound like mean 12 year olds with the body shaming.
I do
THANK YOU. So much judgment. People like to talk about how bad others are but you don't see them stopping watching.
Being overweight is very bad for people, encouraging people to look after themselves is not "body shaming" but encouraging good changes in behaviour. Calling it body shaming though makes you responsible for enabling people to harm themselves. You should be ashamed for calling it body shaming.
Exactly. This young woman is hurting and grieving while people are insulting her.
@@paulosullivan3472 the video is about her spending, not her body. being overweight is an issue but that has nothing to do with her problem with spending. YOU should be ashamed.

I do NOT miss the eyebrow fashion from the 2000s. Not that today’s exaggerated Instagram brows are much better but those pencil thin lines do no one a favour. As to the girl... I really wanted to shout at her to find a hobby. Shopping and fashion magazines ARE not a hobby!!!

I shopped like crazy at that age, too. Materialism was being pushed on us constantly and I worked at the mall so my paycheck went from my direct deposit right back to the store. Luckily, I was taught the danger of debt by my older sister's mistakes so I only could spend what I had.
I still have too many clothes, but I have enough sense not to buy more now.
It is even worse now. Not only materialism but ageism kids are so retarded nowadays they call somebody in their 30s old or ageing and wotsnot. I never shopped online, unless it was the ebay

I buy alot of second hand stuff as the quality is great and lasts the test of time. But ive never understood this notion of why people want to be like celebrities and think that their lifestyle will make you happy. We need to be ourselves in this life and just copying people is just living as someone else which means you will always be hiding behind them.
I do too there's everything at thrift stores
@@rl7090 that would be a fun place to work i love thift stores
She makes $15k a year. Why waste that on clothes going out of style. Invest in your future. Work on your career.
Because she's addicted. Her purchases are not the result of a rational decision of investing
she's depressed. she even said she sometimes wishes she had died instead of her mom. do you really think she can imagine a future where she's happy and then put in the effort to get there wile she feels like this?
I think back then 1 GBP was basically 2 USD. Still though...
As Dolly Parton says "it takes a lot of money to look this cheap!" When I was working and had " to dress" for my position, I went with classics. Now I'm retired and own a small ranch, t-shirts and blue jeans are my normal wear - that's good for working with animals and going into our small rural town for shopping.
Aw bless, when she said that it was like she had left her mum on holiday, after scattering her ashes was really very sweet. Your mum IS on holiday sweetheart. but like in a heaven one.. x
