  • Ahead of the Duke men’s soccer season-opener on Friday night, “Extra Time: A Duke Men’s Soccer Feature" dives into the program’s recent success, Blue Devils’ alumni in Major League Soccer and takes a look ahead of the upcoming 2023 season.
Head coach John Kerr enters his 16th season at the helm of the program and holds a 149-103-37 record in Durham. The former Blue Devil standout helped lead Duke to its first national championship in 1986 and was the MAC Hermann trophy winner the same season. He is joined in the feature by associate head coach Michael Brady, assistant coach Kyle Renfro, and assistant coach Tristan Wierbonski.
Fans can look forward to insight into multiple former Blue Devils that are currently playing for MLS clubs, including 2022 stars Shakur Mohammed and Peter Stroud and additional alums Thorleifur Ulfarsson, Ian Murphy, Jeremy Ebobisse, Brian White, Sean Davis and Sebastien Ibeagha.
The Blue Devils are coming off an undefeated regular season in 2022 and an appearance in the NCAA national quarterfinals. Duke returns eight starters alongside eight additions to its roster, including three collegiate transfers and two international signings. The season opener against Jacksonville on Friday, Aug. 25, is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at Koskinen Stadium.
